Giving the player valuable things, for valuable Bugs
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:35:19 pm »

My suggestion is to give players (testers) any valuable things for what they tell GM's location of important bugs. For example, if someone reported to GM about the bug, which helps to quickly (read: illegally) to develop his character, he receives, for example, combat armor or anything else, at the discretion of administrators. Otherwise, after the beta test, you (and administrators) will have a sufficient number of non-closed bugs that may negatively affect the gaming experience.
Someone here suggested that all these things that GM's can give players, for the bugs will disappear after the first wipe, but corrected bugs will not appear again, so that's WHY it still remains a good idea, imho.
For me as a big fan of the original Fallout / Fallout 2 - Fonline is already really big reward. But, again, as the Badger said, this is not so, for most players. So, that's why they must be somehow rewarded.
P.S. And yet, you should not forget that 2238 played not only by Americans and French, for most of whom (like me) the reward is a good game, but also Russian and Polish, which SOMETIMES have a bit different motivation. I particularly talking about the players which were playing server TLA, and about a week ago, switched to 2238. And most of these players certainly will not be reporting to the bug reports.

It's these kind of ideas that could completely ruin the in-game economy.
I remember I had an idea a while back for a reward system to do with capturing auto-clicker users and bots, but that's another story...

So it is a good idea to reward people with unique items: paintings, dies, shivs, diaseys, purple robes, power armors BEYOND repair, etc

That won't ruin economy at all :)

Funny idea. I say: no.
We are beta-testers, our reward will be engine without bugs.

Well... You ask for rewards although you already play FOnline as a beta tester. Which is weird for me - People that don't want to help in game development just for the sake of it shouldnt be rewarded just to be encouraged. And those reporting bugs and helping devs anyhow - well... I guess they don't really need any.

True, but most players aren't interesting in beta testing, they're trying to make the biggest most powerful gang and steal the most loot.

Anything that pushes players to beta test properly is a good thing, even though they would ideally just be doing it anyway. People are probably holding back bugs to get the upper hand. It wouldn't surprise me.

The reward is a better game.

Yeah

but still rewarded players will feel better and so the game will be better for them (unique but mostly useless item i wtote of above wouldn't change anything in playability anyways... so it'll be just a minor feature dev can afford)

Exactly.

You tell devs bugs, you get a better game. What more reward do you want? And why would you want junk like broken power armor etc. anyway? It's crappy material objects that will be lost when the next wipe will come.

The ingame economy is broke already, people stealing from merchant npc's and leaving them with almost nothing is already killing the game.

People can steal from NPC merchants? If so I'm pretty sure that is a bug...

I dont see any other explanation as to how npc merchants would have nothing on them, ive seen multiple different merchants in NCR cleared out, it seems like if the economy was working correctly merchants would constantly have a larger and larger selection as well as a buttload of caps, instead you wind up with a merchants that has 190 brass knuckles and 600 scorpion tails because the theif didnt deem it worth their time to steal.

Maybe people are hoarding money, I thought devs said they would do something about that if people did it.

it cant be though. ive seen people rob the igauna guy in NCR plenty of times, ive even seen his inventory completely empty. the whole thing is that a merchant no matter how good your barter is isnt going to sell stuff at a loss to you, cause then you could just turn around and sell it right back for profit. so the bottom line is having an empty merchant should never happen but it appears merchants are getting robbed blind.
