3D Model Textures

hey, sorry if this is in the wrong place, didn't seem quite right for fan art.

anyway, i wanted to ask, does anyone have any 3D models that have at least a basic texture applied to them from say a DDS file or another image file type?

my skill with texture work is not great, but i would like a chance to work with one of the newish 3D models people are making for FOnline, if they'd allow me.

Well, it could be helpful if you make a texture for LSW, gauss pistol and pulse rifle :P. But you would have to make UV maps for them yourself because I haven't created them for these models yet.

well i might be able to make a texture for that, if you don't care about it not being FPS level detail.

only problem is short of opening up things i have no clue how to use blender, only 3D modelling program i really like and have used at all is google sketchup since it allows me to zoom in stupidly close like i like to get a good view of even tiny dots of color.

Blender is a freeware, google it and you will find it. You can always export the models into any format you want and then open it with a program that you feel more comfortable with. Just use file-->export option. We usually use DirectX format.

its just getting it mapped that i have the problem with, but i'll see if i can sort it all out.

hmm, sorry for the double post, but i think those weapons are already made and textured, i checked the wiki and it showed screenshots.

Nah it's just images stuck to the models that are visible on render, but cannot be used in game. What is needed is UV map and 128x128 UV texture (you can make it any size and rescale it later). Here is an example of what it should look like. You can import the file with X extention to any 3d graphics editor you like.

hmm, still trying to figure out the UV mapping bit, i'll let you know if i do get it.
