you forget that with the amount of work that the game needs and fact that devs do it in their free time (and for free) - there is hardly time for migrating to 3d.
alo not many can do 3d modeling but i belive anyone can do copy paste and that whats basicly 2d editing is...

also 10k pictures 10k pictures... its bullshiet ... combat armors , power armors all have same animation coz hair si covered there is no need to modify those, if you would go for bold guy then the leahter armor animation are already there , just need to do metal . jacket and blue suit ones - about half...

and if you would want to add some base skins that wouldnt use bluesuit as naked - all you need is to edit the base animations and the rrest is same as for normal character as armor overrides the cloth...

but finally if you say "we wanna migrate to 3d" then none will be interested in puting effort with making new 2d skins as to in future their work to be replaced .....

You have it all wrong, the originals were 3d models. No one made the frames by hand. It's the equivalent of making a movie by drawing frame by frame or making a camera. Yes the camera is harder to make then a pencil but you'll still finish years faster.

You forgot that there would be still many thousands of images left for editing.

If you think it's so simple to do the critter editing stuff, you can check out the NMA modding forum and help the critter editing people who are working on stuff since a long time already. :)

nah you killed all my will with the fact that you wanna 3d it...

@Roachor - i dont rly know/care how they did it when developing fallout , they could manualy made all in worst case too (possibly with just tools to speed up the process)... its much like making the game a new now - i wonder if it wouldnt be realy easier to just implement f2 world in tactics engine...

I suggested that a few months back and they banned my account on the nma forums. I still think tactics was the obvious choice for a base model I don't understand why anyone would bother trying to use f2.

Tactics is just ugly for me, I am quite happy to have FO2 models. I hope we gonna be able to have 3D without loose too much of graphic style.

Just to get it out there I'm talking about the game mechanics being far superior, although the art in f2 is pretty shitty its based on art deco which I love and tactics had a more cartoony look to it.

Oh noes, i just found this thread. I hope they will not make it 3D, 'cause it's not so hard to make skins, if i only knew about this before... i could make it already.

Here... i did in few minutes, just started, i think, if they leave 2D skins, i'll make skins you offer.

Of couse i just started, but i'll make it everyday, btw, this programms are SO uncomfortable... i bet it's creator don't use it himself. Why the hell i need each time press "Ctrl+F" to adjust EVERY frame? Why not just "F"? Why the hell "delete frame" button is near adjust, so, if i doing it by my mouse, i can miss and delete ****ing frame, so i need to load it again. Sorry. So, i don'y have alot time, but i'll spend all my free time on making skins.

GIF animation (bad quality, because i can't find good FREE gif animator, but don't worry, i need it only to show result at forum):

P.S. I use "Paint", 'cause i'm not even an animator or artist, and i never used photoshop before.

Do it 10000x more times. I don't know why people want to do it hard way, when it's possible to do it with less work and same effect.

Yea, I don't telling you, that i'll make it tomorrow, and, really, it's not so hard, when you know what that model can be used, and alot players will look different. I plan to make black male (from alternative metal male), punk female (from alternative leather jacket female), black female (from alternative vault dweller female), red hair female (alternative metal female). And, may be, skins for combat armor without helm and different skins for combat leather jacket, leather amror mk2, metal armor mk2, etc. Yes, it sounds crazy, and you think it'll take some years, but I did hth_idle animation very very very fast + I did everything very slow only at begin, some later i did it faster, and now I can do it easy.
Really, why I'm vs 3D, only because if models will look different, not like in F1 or F2. I think most players and I playing this game, because they love F1 and F2, i think they have good memories, if every skin will look different, atleast a bit, it'll be other game. That's why FOnline in Fallout Tactics engine will look ugly. Fallout Tactics is different game, yes, it has same character system, etc., but... it's other game. I don't want to kill old good fallout 1 and 2.

Nobody says that it's hard. Everyone is talking about it beeing a long and busy work and after x thousands of images, one is just done with it.

I worked 4 days long from morning to evening on my bald head combat armor dude and he doesn't even have half of all needed animations + the head isn't even aligned perfect all the time. It was not hard to do this, but time consuming and tiring.

Do this with 10k frames and continue with other stuff like new armor and else. Keep in mind, each time you add a new armor graphic, you have to do every different hair graphic too. Which makes it more and more frames over the time.

Very uneffective task.

What you "planned" was "planned" already since a long time and until now, it hasn't been done. Started, yes. But finished, no.

FOnline with Fallout Tactics graphics would look ugly because of Fallout Tactics graphic.

Lexx he said that the f2 graphics would look ugly in the tactics engine, not that tactics graphics would be in fonline. Pretty obvious considering things aren't the same dimensions.

You seem to forget that FOnline actually IS other game than Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. And different from Fallout: Tactics too. It is BASED on those games, and that's all. Even world isn't the same, 'cause in FOnline you can go to places from Fallout 1 and 2. People, quests, perks, even cities are DIFFERENT. Not to mention crafting system and other changes/adds. So don't try to tell that changing characters and weapons models to 3D will change FOnline to other game. It ALREADY is a different game. Period.

If you don't like it the way it is (or it'll become), then don't play it. Simple as that. If you want to play Fallout 1 or 2, then go play Fallout 1 and/or 2, not FOnline.

You can waste your time trying to make all those skins, but honestly - it'll be nothing more, than WASTE of your time. The reason is simple - server already crashes frequently (too frequently, to be honest...), so putting another tens of thousands pictures into server just because you don't like 3D models (have you seen that models? Why are they so bad in your opinion? Tell us, please...) is just plain stupidity, and it won't make server work any better...

Have you ever thought why GM's are removing skins (other than long-hair dude) from players? It's not their malice, it's for better stability of the server, 'cause there won't be as many pictures to manage, acess and display.

And finally: 3D models are WAY better for FOnline, considering constant players requests for new/modified/other skins. Read carefully what Lexx wrote... and just accept the fact that someday FOnline will have 3D models for characters and weapons...

To be exact, his words "FOnline in Fallout Tactics engine" doesn't even work, so it's more plausible he meaned a FOnline in Fallout Tactics (graphic) style.

Ehh, so, may be, i'll try to make 3D models? ;p Really, I don't want to play till next wipe and release, but i want to take part or to help somehow FOnline.

*going to check what programms need for 3D models*, because, even if i make all this models, you'll replace it, because other people working on 3D, so why do you need use my 2D skins?

Nope, for me it's the same, but with players. 95% of my gameplay is roleplay, the only bad thing, is 21st levels in combat armor and top weapon counts as PvP characters, but where you can see normal "leather jacket+desert eagle" PvP? So, point of this game is reaching 21st level and then PvP at TC or somewhere in party? You'll never see gang in leather jackets/armor with tommy guns and wakidzashi (or how it calls...), you'll always see metal armor+sniper rifle/bazooka on encounters, same items every time, so yea... it's different game, when everyone forgetting about roleplay.

*going to check what programms need for 3D models*,

Well, most people use either Blender or 3d max because these are a freeware. Feel welcome to contribute, the links that you should visit are posted above.
