Server Karma System / Server Colourizing
« on: November 17, 2010, 01:21:58 pm »

Let me introduce a Name Colourizing / Karma System that is based on Mortal Online (another openPvP fullLoot MMO)

Public Status Blue
: You didnt do any crimes or murders a long time.
  • You are protected by town-guards.

Public Status Orange: You've done crimes that have been witnessed, attacking someone, caught stealing, etc (no kill involved).
  • You are not protected by town-guards.
  • stealing from you or attacking you or killing you does not change the status of others.
  • This status lasts 5 real minutes.

Public Status Red: Youve killed someone with the status blue.
  • You will be attacked by town-guards.
  • stealing from you or attacking you or killing you does not change the status of others.
  • This status lasts for 20 real hours (logged in).
  • This status lasts for another 20 real hours (logged in) if you kill another player in status blue while you are in status red

Status Green: This Player is in your faction.
  • Any actions against  green players from your side dont change your public status.

Status Teal : Alliance: A faction leader can suggest an alliance with another faction via factionterminal. When accepted by the other faction's leader all allied faction members appear teal.
  • Any actions against  teal players from your side dont change your public status.
  • An alliance can be ended by either side after one real day of the beginning of the alliance

Status Purple:
: Gangwars: A faction leader can challenge another faction to a gangwar via factionterminal. When accepted  the challenged faction's leader via  factionterminal, all the opposing gangmembers appear purple to all faction members.
  • You can do anything to that purple players without changing your public status, except in guarded towns. this is to prevent exploiting (camping guarded towns, waiting for your gangwar enemies etc)
  • A gangwar can be ended by either side after one real day of the beginning of the gangwar.

On TC, this feature is disabled. Colourizing still remains but no status change to avoid exploiting on a battlefield.

This will solve some all time arguments in my opinion. But i respect the opinion you want to have a little bit "stranger"-feeling when meeting a player.
But think about what this suggestion would bring to the game:

1. Player interaction changes, as you now can fairly guess if the wastelander you encounter is friendly or not (i know he could be a PK who just waited but thats why it has so long cooldown to come out of the red status).
2. Thiefs and attackers can still be taken down without problems.
3. Finally no more lies about who is the good and the bad guy. Real PKers would be alltime red. And even if they do a blue disguise, they cant do any PKing without changing their status.

There already was such a system - tags - and I didn't really like it. So, I prefer actual colorizing system, sorry :P

The system you mention has nothing to do with this. The "Bad Guy"-Tag lasted for like 1-2 hours. Or you could just logout and wait until next time its gone.

Actually it was so bugged I think the tag was staying longer. Here you talk about a 'bad guy' tag, but it is the same as the colors you suggest - same effects and meaning, for example. That's all.

This is a Karma system. Search my numerous older posts to see what I think about them and why they are bad.

I liked old system. Now some asshole try to steal and you have no idea if you can kill him or if guards will just fuck you up and thief will loot your body...

Back then redname asshole came inside city and was shot on sight. Now even if thief dies, he come back in 2 minutes and you can't do a shit to him. It's just pathetic right now...

So I like your idea. But orange and red should be only, when you do crime in guarded city (coz other way we would have lots of reds and oranges ;p)
And Orange should last 10-15 minutes. I hate thieves...

With orange color for thieves, the "Annoying Orange" phrase goes to a new level...

Killing = murder, yup :)

This could work with account system (every account few alt's)

I still don't get it. Alt's are neither forbidden or allowed but they are some kind of problem.

A player who didnt kill any other player for 20 logged in hours has some right to be not shot by the next guy shouting "you PK".
If hes blue because of new alt, what can he do with his alt, he would first need to level him. All that work for that? Srsly man. And when he would attack you first he would end up orange, meaning a free kill for everyone without status change.

Pking random people isn't really wrong, it's just retarded. The game shouldn't cater for something as stupid as pk vs antipk, or thieves vs anti-thieves since there were neither in fallout. There were people with goals fighting over survival and power. You can't fit black&white karma settings for that kind of world to declare who are enemies to who. That's what reputation is for.

the devs are fond of pk system and i dont think they will do any kind of chances that would limit it.

Solar said somewhere that this is a bug and it's not supposed to work like this.

I think it would be fun if depending on your rep in a town, the guards will say something when you enter.
For instance if you have a bad rep they say something like "We'll keep an eye on you".
If you have really really bad rep they say something like "Tread really carefully around here or we'll waste you".

Note that that doesn't change anything about the current system except that you can see who has a bad rep with that specific town's faction.

It already happens but very rare, guards at bank or Buster's tent sometimes can say something like "We know everything about you, scum, don't try anything." or something like that, if you have -1XXX rep with this town. But, as I said, it's very rare, and last time I seen it is last wipe.

This change of colourizing would totaly screw friend or foe recognition in battles greater than 1on1. This change might be fun but it requires some other way how to identify your allies in combat.
