Exactly what it sounds like. I can buy miniguns by the dozen, but finding a damn leather jacket has me checking every single town.
-
Well, over on TLA the travelling merchants actually sell stuff, you can usually find a Metal Armor or Leather Armor on one of them. I want 2238 to be a bit more like that, but with this player-driven economy system I don't see it happening.

very easy

Player Driven Economy! Fulfilling your laser pistol and 9mm needs!

Damn right, all the shops are full of crap no one uses. I think they should change the economy system, to be honest.
-
Auto-converting useless excessivecrap to ammo (semi-restock) would solve both your sugesstion and the need to remove crap from traders.

Yeah. It was experimented with, but it doesn't work. People only craft certain things to sell and nobody buys guns from stores because their prices are incredibly high - 8,000 for a grease gun you could lose in a few seconds? Not worth it.

8000 for a Grease Gun? You gotta be kidding me, the prices may depend on Barter, but they only go so far. No one is going to pay 8000 caps for a Grease Gun.

Merchants do charge insane prices though, mk2 metal is like 30k if you buy it.
-
11k for a combat shotgun, 112 barter.
Basically, what it does is prevent cash flow. Nobody spends money. People just hoard it for the crazy purchases like bases/cars. The economy stagnates. And it is stagnant.

The system is fine, its just badly tuned at the moment.
Improvements to the trader lists, reducing Barter skill and the introduction of "supply me" quests should have the system working much better.
Although Raeg's idea of converting into ammo/etc for some specific traders sounds like it could be nice too.

I disagree, I think it's actually gotten worse. Traders used to stock things people actually wanted, and in reasonable quantities. Inventories used to be purged of crap. I've travelled from the Hub to Modoc in my quest to find armour to buy, only to discover Balthas has given up on selling leather and is now in the junk and primitive tool trade.

At which point he should clear all the crap and replace it with caps... or as Raeg suggests, it could be with Armour instead of caps.
The trader lists need to punish the prices of items he wouldn't be interested more, I'm not convinced this is working as intended at the moment.
As said before, system is fine, small fixes are all thats needed.
