Title: Permanent Pipboy upgrades
Post by: Cultist on October 05, 2010, 07:22:51 pm
I'm suggesting that the pipboy upgrades such as motion detector and Geiger counter become available for purchase after completing a quest for either enclave or BoS.

The motion detector upgrade would allow you to toggle the messbox to the minimap generated when you would use that item normally in game, allowing you to see the black/green minimap with dots for nearby lifeforms(Including stealth, but at a diminished range, this would not break stealth). It would also display a message when someone enters your encounter.

The geiger counter would display a message calculating how long you can survive at the current rate of radiation whenever a radioactive environment is entered.

Both of these upgrades would be in your pipboy and therefore permanently added to your character.

I think it would be a good excuse to incorporate a long chain quest that would require something extremely hard to accomplish, giving players a reason to have to group together.

There's been several threads about permanent pipboy upgrades. I like this one a lot though. I'm thinking something like Enclave gives motion detector, BoS gives geiger counter. I'd say after you increase rank twice (aka reach rank III) in each faction, a quest opens up for these that is optional and has no effect on your membership.

And maybe if those are implemented, some kind of radio receiver could also become available for all players through a long quest.

Some kind of radio receiver available after four seconds of playing - it's that or use Mumble. Believe it or not, the more we encourage players to use ingame mechanics the better. It also encourages interaction between strangers, people setting up channels to group up, etc.

And hey maybe without radios they can't send distress signals or anything, only receive and send transmissions.

Edit: Rewritten. That was the worst sentence I or anyone else has ever written.

I am especially for giger counter. We would appreciate it in glow.
