Title: An option for inverting the run logic (Always Run)
Post by: Eralo on January 15, 2010, 10:50:36 pm
Mi mouse is nearly broken with all that doubleclicking everywhere  ::). Having an option to make a single click run and a double walk, would be great for the longevity of our beloved device.  ;D

I really don't know if it has been asked, the search function does not like tree letter words, and it would spread a long list of results anyway.

Edit:
Yeah I'm referring to the shift key as well.
"Always Run" was an option in the originals, I'm merely suggesting a feature that is standard.
I'm not referring to make the player run under all conditions, overcumbered should make it walk like always.

It could take out the balance from PVP. Now it's not simple point&click and that option is better IMO. I suggest to leave running system as it's already - people can't aim, shot and run at one time.

Aye, but Shift is the easy way. And you didn't actually say anything about it that made it obvious you knew in your first post.

I though it was obvious because it's used by all the games that need to run or walk.

Broke what balance? To break a balance first there should be one. The PvP is dominated by the skills of the player not by the character... If i wanted a Twitch reactive game i would be playing Quake/CS/HL/ect... Where ironically you can set an option to "Always run" and that doesn't break balance.

How does holding shift all the time improve PvP balance?

Now it's not simple point&click

..yeah it's point&doubleclick and it's a lot better.

people can't aim, shot and run at one time.

Can't they?

Seriously, I think that making character control easier and less cumbersome will improve tactics in combat a lot. People would have more time to care about tactics if they didn't have to click 10 times per second, still having in mind to hold a shift all game long.

They have always only need to point (put the enemy under the crosshair) and click (shot). And the movement is completely different to that in FOnline, i used it just as an example.
Oh! Come on it's an option even in Fo1/Fo2/FoT Why such opposition to it here?

Note: I should add to the topic something about the "Always run"

I think its a good point considering walking serves no purpose unless you are stealthed and don't have silent running, and stealth has been essentially removed from the game as a viable mechanic.

I would prefer Caps Lock to turn on/off autorun.

That could be annoying when constantly switching from the game to IRC. Should just be a toggle button on the keypad or something.

I don't think that removing "walking" is such a good idea. Imagine some players in a guarded town, just chat with each other in character.
One says "Dang, it's hot today, I relax smoothly in Building XY" and suddenly he runs like hell to the point he intended. Sometimes walking looks just better, if you dont want to walk there are already two options as mentionend here, the shift button and the double click.

Wow! who said removing. My suggestion means if you want to walk, you have to doubleclick (or press shift),like it's done in any other game that has two modes of movement. And by the way I'm asking it to be optional.

Whoops, then I misunderstood, sorry for that.
Yeah, if it would be optional, thats ok I think.
