Title: [base] Vault City Sentry Post
Post by: Wichura on September 21, 2010, 07:13:58 am
Mapper addicts :>

Ghouls became impudent these days. Vault City needs YOU, Citizen! Stand and guard our City at Sentry Post.

Map file is here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/aesfen).

Right now joining VC faction is only for one purpose - medical terminal inside Vault. Why not spread citizenship-thing a bit and buy a base around VC, from sergeant Stark for example?
Suggested price 200-300k, I don't have idea about resources in this base - wood? Plants? Herbs?

I like it.

In FO2 they didn't allow alcohol to be carried into the city, so a still would be a no go (despite it can be used for rot gut too).
No brahmin pen either as VC citizens don't have 1, only a courtyard citizen does.
Perhaps consider it a penalty for having the medical terminal.

Some kind of lockable storage room with an energy shield would be nice.
That would require a small energy generator.

Sentry guns should be working but that could mean a higher price.

Medical Terminal - big NO NO.
I agree.
This makes VC citizenship more useless.

I thought about being a Vault City Citizen as requirement to buy this base. However medical terminal isn't necessary, I think it could encourage people.

And when you are paying like 200-300k caps for hideout, you can expect something really cool, no? Bunker for 500k kicks ass, there is private mine inside, two places to gather electronic parts and shitload of lockers, but nothing extra - no fancy-shmancy terminals or anything else that makes you feel damn good after spending half milion of caps. And location - few squares from "In The Middle of Nowhere" town.

Anyway what about map itself? Any bugs/errors/stupid design?

I really like it.

The idea of having sentry turrets to help defend and back up while everyone fights it out is great, it would certainly make people think twice before entering a base they are not a member for  8). I think you should keep the Still though, stuff those upper class Vault City Citizens and their morals!

It could be avaible for VC Militia only players. Automatic-Turrets should attack everyone who not belongs to VCM, so all invited characters would be forced to be a part of VCM (even with setting VCM afilliation as permament, like slaver perk). This can force whole group of players to arrange a milita-force in exchange of wasteland gang.

VCM status could be obtained only by VC Citizens, maybe through some kind of quest?

Ranks! Faction ranks! Obtainable by quests!

Citizen -> militiant -> ensign -> soldier -> outpost commander!

Damned psi-abilities   ;D But discussion still is needed, maybe at last Fonline get some achievment system other than 'has killed most brahmins', something that everyone can earn and be happy from this cause.

It looks good.
But it doesn't make sense. Vault city itself is , well, a city, a big community, a fortress.
It's one big city, they don't have outposts like that.

They don't have train station either. ;)

Allright.

Vault City Citizenship should be requirement. To make it easier - sentry post should be buyable at Vault 8 that is only accessible by Vault City Citizens. Therefore all founders have to be Vault City members.

Even then this should be more expensive than a bunker. Due to the sentry towers and medical terminal.

Additionally i would add a quest chain  that would unlock the outpost, long chain that includes lots of killing and lots of travelling to make it harder.

After that, it may keep the terminal and nice location near the Vault City.
I think requirements have to be made.
I also think this map is superawesome. Fortress-like. Design is pretty vaultcitish, simple and ergonomic. I would add some plants for fruits and fibres. Perhaps computer with chemical coponents? Just a thought.

Nevertheless, the map is very nice - keep up the good job Wichura.

I think this would be more interesting as a public base for VC citizens, as part of the incoming NPC faction system. You become a Citizen, but you're still a stinky wastelander. So you're assigned quarters outside of the city. You respawn there/get private storage; same as hotels. Only here it's free and there isn't the ridiculous rush to get a room. That would probably require a basement map, though.

As a side note, is there a way for a stairway to take players to their own individual instanced map? Player 1 can only ever get to Player 1's basement room when he uses the stairs, Player 2 can only ever get to Player 2's basement room when he uses the same stairs, etc.

It would also serve as the hub for VC's organised fixed team PvP, a place to sell goods, as well as a quest hub for VC citizens - I'm imagining the same repeatable quests for all factions, go kill/steal/persuade this guy and we give you reward and FACTION POINTS. A similar location would exist for NCR members, Khans, San Fran Communists, and whatever other NPC factions are planned.

Sorry, my imagination kind of ran away with me there.

But yeah. I don't think we need another buyable base so much as much as we need NPC faction bases.

Yeah, Badgers ideas are much more appealing.
For that purpose the map just looks perfectly fitting.

Indeed. I saw it and though it was pretty useful for domination mode ;)

This is what the main faction bases will/should be.
