This is my first attempt to make a friend with Mapper. I still don't know how to add roofs, so no roof here.
Inspired by this thread a bit (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=9306.0), especially point 3rd, also felt sorry for my good ol' topic (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=3755.0) I've made a simple map of what could you make from 20 wood and 10 junk pieces using Science in empty encounter - for example. Both are much easier to find than brahmin hides, and realism - oh please, just forget it.

Here is .map file (http://www.sendspace.com/file/zgq30k).

Doesn't look bad, although a bit too much junk on the walls etc.
But thats a matter of taste. For the map - it could come handy soon. :)
-
I really like the idea of a tent alternative for loners. If enough people make shack maps in mapper maybe there could be a shack randomizer whenever you build one in game.
here's woodtent.map after blockers are checked, green wall hexes are added and special blockers removed. ctrl+b is the show blockers shortcut.
http://www.box.net/shared/hs083fp0im (http://www.box.net/shared/hs083fp0im) (different filename so it won't replace your one)
edit: ahh I forgot, toggle between roof and floor by clicking middle mouse button
-
In my opinion, your idea is really cool.
-
Cool house. When you implemented it?
-
it could come handy soon. :)
Hmm?
You think to make this to game?
-
Awesome, i want it :P
-
Awesome, been suggested before and never got implemented though :'(.
-
do want!
This makes me wanna map too :)
-
You use scenery blockers to cover all walls, this is wrong. Also you are using too many blockers anyway. Walls block on their own, they don't need additional blockers placed, if they aren't special pieces. Also the ground bed thingy is flat and doesn't need blockers.

the problem whit the tents is for loners and noobs, the hides are hard to get:
step 1: find brahmins
step 2: kill them
step 3: take the hides to make a tent
now, for every step there is a problem:
step 1: brahmins hard to find
step 2: need a gun
step 3: must survive whit the hides from a PK
i got an alternative sugestion: instead of making tents, make houses like the one above from 10 building matherials1 instead of hides
this way the tent will be more easy to make

1a new item that can be crafted from: 1 B-Hide or 10 junk or 5 iron ore
-
Waht about a few labels in the fixboy anyways.
Tent = 10 B. Hides | Tools: Knife
Corrugated Junk Hovel = 20 Junk & 4 Wood | Tools: Knife & Sledgehammer
Wooden Cabin = 20 Wood & 5 MP | Tools: Sledge, Hatchet & Tool
Tiny Vault = 30 MP & 20 Alloys or 10 GMP & 5 HQ Alloys | Tools: Super Toolkit, Shovel & Super Sledge

The idea of a new item called "building materials" is good, since you can't use Science on wood and junk at the same. But do you really think they could be made with hides or iron ores?
What about this: you need only ONE "building materials" to build this house, but you need 20 wood and 10 junk to craft it.

Thanks a lot, these are advices I need the most.
How about making a roof? I'll try find out how to make it, any tips?
And how can I run a game with my map?
-
Click middle mouse button to switch between floor and roof level. Also if you press control+b you see all blocking hexes. As far as I remember, this is written in the mapper readme too.
-
How about adding this house at the Private Mine?
-
Waht about a few labels in the fixboy anyways.
Tent = 10 B. Hides | Tools: Knife
Corrugated Junk Hovel = 20 Junk & 4 Wood | Tools: Knife & Sledgehammer
Wooden Cabin = 20 Wood & 5 MP | Tools: Sledge, Hatchet & Tool
Tiny Vault = 30 MP & 20 Alloys or 10 GMP & 5 HQ Alloys | Tools: Super Toolkit, Shovel & Super Sledge
These are good for those buildings, but that "Tiny Vault" is kinda freaking awesome :D

Wichura for president! Finally, some idea for a tent alternative have finally caught devs attention!
gordulan - your idea of grading houses is nice, but a TINY VAULT!? WOOT?!
Damn it, mapper always crashed (and is crashing still on my laptop. Now I know how could I push through my old idea of giving players a slight chance of FINDING a suitable place to live in (i.e. a rare urban encounter with a basement).... sniff...

I got same problem than you.. I just don't get it why it don't start :/
-
People have always wanted a little variation. I guess the biggest issue is the maps themselves. Good going, Wichura, and hope others put something in the pot too to make something like this more of a reality.
-Not fond of the 'mini-vault' idea. Tents/lone housing is supposed to be low-key and practical, now a small miniature base, otherwise people will never leave them.
Closest thing to 'mini-vault' I would want is whats left of an old fallout shelter (probably in some houses backyard), maybe with half of it caved in, yet still providing some space for storage and a bed. 8)

Tiny vaults, private mines, vertibird parking places ... no, no, no.
Roof added, however I don't like it, just doesn't fit. But I don't know how to rotate objects here, tried Ctrl+[many keys] and Alt+[even more keys], none worked.
My mapper's readme file looks like this:
I live in a savage country, but I can't read this. Anyone has a "readable" readme file for Mapper?
Map file is here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/sa79bq), feel free to use and/or rework it.
And how about making this kind of hideout like a tent, but by using Science on 20 wood pieces while having sledgehammer/hatchet in inventory?

Give a try with MapperManual_en.pdf in same folder or http://svn2.xp-dev.com/svn/fonline_sdk/Tools/Mapper/ 8)

The manuals you've linked to show only commands for the outdated mapper unfortunately. :/

The manual i provided was the one from the fresh SDK. Ask Cvet.
The thread i provided was concerning with floor, walls, blockers and roof. I don't know how outdated those basics could be.

well, the tiny vault is personally what I really would like to have, we have in fact the map needed for it, except all it may need would be a reduction in containers, and a slight resizing, but all in all it's nearly perfect (The SP Enc map).
Anyone have the actual map available for it, I might just resize it in my image, and alter an Alternate-Dyna Map Up top (Upgradeable, has same destination [The Bunker/Vault], so an Alternate-Dynamism area IMO[No Containers]), Speaking of which, how do you get an underground version of the map (What I mean is, how would the "Cave Roof" be presented, my guess is that it is an actual roof tile which can be used just like a normal item, but I'm not 100% sure really)
-
Four brand new, fresh made maps of houses:
- desert house
(http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/3620/housedesert.jpg)
- mountain house
(http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/3310/housemountain.jpg)
- city house
(http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/773/housecity.jpg)
- coast house
(http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/4718/housecoast.jpg)
All map files are zipped here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/uty3rq).
My idea to create them in game - use Science on 20 junk pieces. Keep it simple.
Advices and/or criticism welcomed.
-
Nice work dude! Would be a waste if this would be forgotten.
-
I wouldn't call em houses, nor would I call them hovels technically, they're more like.... umm... what's the word.... dilapidated bungalows, yeah, bungalows... (weird word, buuuungaaaaaloooows...)
I love the city one, really brings out the awesome in the scrap
-
Nice work. ;)
I hope one day to be able to have a house by the coast. :)
-
Wichura, the unintelligible readme is probably russian font, and by the way you did a great work, keep it going!
-
So you just copy/pasted them to other standard maps?
The house in the city doesn't match the look of the map/the other wall/tilesets.
The roof doesn't really match to the walls too.

You didn't look carefully, my young padawan. Besides Mapper doesn't work that easy, unfortunately. Every house is different, but just like tents now, they can be placed in many different locations: city, desert, etc.
I wanted to keep the "scavenger" spirit - if you, simple wastelander, construct a small house from junk, it's obvious it won't "fit" or "match" to surrounding area. That's why it looks like this.
Any mistakes or bugs found on those maps so far?
-
My suggestion
NPC who will sell the plans to build a house.
Cost Plans:
home 1 10 000 caps
home 2 20 000 caps
etc
(maybe together with plans some raw materials 10 junk,10 wood based on a house)
Then use science on the plans
And your house is ready.

Nice.
Still just a tent though.
I wish we could make tents on the urban maps that have the upstairs room.
Or in cave spaces- and keep the cave.
-
The purchasable plans price, little too much, might as well save up for the 30k base. I like what you've got so far Wic, the idea of finding an area, then scaving the materials to make a shelter of some kind, SO FALLOUT, love it. Least in the essence of the world, if not implemented in any of the games lol. I really think you're on the right track, maybe even opening a door to more craft pieces.
-
It seems to me that you do tent with 10 skins. Because it is not easy at the beginning of the game. A house think it should be harder to do. A timber and minerals, is easier to get. The base requires a minimum of 3 persons. House required that only one person.
The more I meant to use science on a single item (such as plans or a house bulding kit). Not on a 3 pacs of items.

Call me crazy, but it would be nice to build a location that allows the addition of 'friends', but not be a faction group base. Cost a little more for the individual to construct, either materials/caps or both. The individual could add 'friends' to the location, but not members. No computer, work bench, etc. Just a safe location to drop/pick-up gear.
This could be expanded, to allow individuals to create work benchs in their 'house', but the material cost would need to be high, to make it less likely that everyone would do this.
Just saying, call me crazy, but I would like it. I also really like the idea of having a more permanent structure.
Also, perhaps make the tent build on a empty cave screen allow the brahmin hides to act like a door to the cave. Just make the cave small, like a dug out, with one container.
-
I think having a house would be awesome. But it should still be a little shack with maybe 2-3 containers instead of 1. Nothing too extravagant or else everyone would be making houses instead of pumping out 30k for a base. Maybe make it like a tent in the sense that whoever is with you while making the house also owns the house, but you and the people with you can't make or be connected to any other tent/house at all. I think that would make people decide on which is the better option rather than getting the big one.
