Dear Wastelanders,
we have some persistent bugs within the server application now. Those are really hard to find and catch, cause server crashes and shows signs of memory leaks. The server application is under thorough inspection right now, which is both, resources and time consuming. Additionally, there are other problems caused by these bugs - like the latest ones with incredibly high ID values assigned to newly registered players and stuff missing from inventories.
We will keep the server running, but you may expect regular crashes in time intervals 60-90 minutes. While it will be hard to play under such circumstances, we appeal for patience and understanding. To estimate when the current issues will be resolved is quite hard right now, but we will do whatever we can to deal with it as swift as possible. Keep tracking this thread for any news that might pop-up soon.

surely the best thing to do would be to have a complete character wipe, and wipe the ID numbers, starting them again and be far harsher on alts?

Please report if the vanishing items are still an issue, both on new characters created before this post, and after.

if it would preserve server integrity i would even request a anti-alt system like Face Of Mankind, which is hugely rigid and IP based, but i dont think that will really be necessary

It's very ironical. In the same way as we got heavy lags and server crashs in the first week of obt3, but before this, nothing happened. I guess everytime we make some bigger release, something will go wrong even if everything was ok before.

Haha, yeah. A lot of people I knew never came back after that, they thought the lag would never be fixed.

Atom, as in 11.01 the invenntory loss was an issue for my LockSmithy character - and now I can't log into him at all.

OK, I decided to create a new character instead of waiting for my old one to be playable again. The inventory was lost again on this latest crash; sorry guys :/

Lost my stuff and tent today. Yesterday it was all ok but now I got nothing.
WTF ??? my items are back but still no tent.

Item Wipe is fixed, so it hasn't occured. Some locations are still missing, but wait for more informations about this.

ok well i just lost all my items on a character i created like 2 days ago just now after the last crash.
*update* my items magically came back!! yay!!

Damn i can't login... clicking on login, the "please wait" screen shows up, 3 seconds, and it comes back to menu...

Thanks; I'm waiting for another server crash to see if it worked, but my ID is a hell lot lower than before now, so it probably did. Nice going, devs! :)

Well, your personal tents should be visible to you. But all ohter tents that have not been build by you stay invisible.

There will be wipe once, we just don't know when. Not soon, that's at least what I can confirm right now.
Since the engine is under continuous upgrade procedure, we are forced to wipe sometimes. Good news is that this doesn't happen too often.

I for one would welcome another wipe, nuthin like levelin the playing field for the new guys, and as an added plus the mass amounts of gear accumulated by upper gangs through the bb gun exploit would be vanished, yay.

You want to tell us only gangs exploited BBgun? Hmm.. lets think. Big gangs have many miners and a lot of caps. They have enough ore dug or bought. They fight pvp 90% of time. Do they need metal parts? Nah. That exploit helped single players :P

pffft as if man, what do you mean they have many miners? hehhe no one wants to go out and mine for a bunch of guys, thats not really playing the game... i sincerely doubt people log on just to mine for other people. and regardless the reason it helps big gangs more is when youve got access to every level 3 profession there is in one group you can accumulate vast amounts of gear very quickly whereas if your a loner you may have one profession and the b.b. gun trick was usefull to the gun and armor professions, so while the loner can make some weapons quickly by himeself the large group is going to make everything and make alot of it to just stockpile.

P.S. I made my own 3 level prof without any help and it wasn't really hard to complete. Needed to repeat once or twice, but that was max. 4 hours. So in theory, I need only 4 other guys who can make their prof's (ene, bgg, traps, doc) and we have everything. Dang, we goin' off-topic. Enough.

For 1, I am in a gang, for 2 people that do nothing but mine to give it to other people need a serious life evaluation. 3 alt-tab doesent work anymore, 4 ive made level 3 profession without help myself, whats your point? if youd like to debate this pm me instead of trolling me.

Do not make wipe. My friend just started the game and already has 2 lvl what for him was very difficult ... Calmly about the server will only need the time to repair. ;)

making new char to lvl3 no problem in less than 30minutes ( 2 Q New reno ) and 2 in NCR , and maybe some10-20min firing.... or cleaning shits... ;)

I ve just made my 2nd 21. lvl, no need wipe at all :p it crashes less times now than before (on monday) I think.

I'm sort of glad devs seem to do the wipes when they're necessary, not when some people are whining for it. Getting through early stages of gang development is fun once in a big while (I mean, that town control action with low levels, shotguns and jackets was a fun little distraction), but I think the game is better and offers more when things really get rolling.

I totally disagree, You didnt really state why its gets more "bumpy" as you put it, if anything with all the new players its going to be insane, but well played out. With the differences in the crafting mechanics I dont think well see entire teams of people equipped with rockets and miniguns for at least maybe 2 weeks instead of one :p. Yeah, decisions for wipe look like this:
a) engine change, wipe required - no dicsussion about it
b) if we have to wipe, let's do it when the gameplay also changes (like last time)
So it's always because we NEED to, it's just we're trying to do this in best possible time (given the circumstances, progress, upcoming updates etc...)

Last time it was two days for a certain faction and there was a massive ammount of butthurt generated in the process. Wipe doesn't make it equal for everyone, if anything it gives the better factions a massive tech/level advantage allowing them to totally dominate the server until the rest manages to catch up. It's way easier to get in the first league when hi-tech stuff is generally out in the streets, which is the way it is right now.

Get your facts straight. It was supposed to be an economy wipe, it turned out to be a total wipe at least partially because of all the whining. And I know that it's going to happen when the devs need it - not when you think it's going to do the community any good. So actually you're the one trolling by asking for it here.

Nope, as above. It was supposed to be technical wipe, which we delayed till we rework some economy for "better" effect.

So you sir get your facts straight and start reading what your quoting cause it had nothing to do with what you said.

This problem still persists, but we have some automated solutions to guarantee that downtime is less than it would be otherwise.
This issue is very complicated because it's caused by memory leaks in either the game code or in the engine, we have no been able to locate them (or it) yet, but are working on it.
