My own option is that first game is always best (not same in Fallout...)
I love first game and it got good story about Harry Mason, man that daughter Cheryl is missing in Silent Hill.
Good bosses and good cutscenes that make game even more horrible that it looks in pictures...
Video about best cutscene in Silent Hill 1.

Fallout is definitive better and much more consistent than Fallout 2.
I personally like Silent Hill 2 most. 3 was good as well. What I really didn't liked was 4. Didn't played any other SH games.

I just hate Fallout 1, because you can started too easy (10mm Pistol and stimpaks for start)
And i hate master :P

I see good reasoning there.

lol.
@ the Topic: I liked Silent Hill 2 the most. The 3 was pretty good too imo.
But it's too long ago I played them, so I don't know the plot etc.
Never found these games too "scary" or "creepy", I liked more the general way the artists built up their game etc.
-
I found them creepy as hell, but I'm easily disturbed. I only played two and three, only actually finished two.
Probably the most atmospheric music I've ever encountered in a game - I can't think of a game that would suffer more than Silent Hill from no music.
I always wanted to see the film that's supposedly a huge influence on the SH series - Jacob's Ladder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXXbIOc9h4g). Just never got around to it.
-
I meant they are more "creepy" in a "sick" way, not with so many cheap stings like in Resident Evil e.g where you easily can analyze the tension and know "*yawn* - oh, am I supposed to be scared? Now? *Zombie Cracking through a door* - Sigh." etc.
That's what I meant - the silent hill games provide more a unknown threat, you can't tell what thing XY is, when things all of a sudden turn into rusted, dirty shit etc. Thats more appealing to me then easily explainable stuff..
-
Yeah, I should've said disturbing rather than creepy. But I think even though they use the same mechanics, SH is more genuinely disturbing - I think Resident Evil was more about the survival part of survival horror. RE strikes me as a B-Movie turned video game. Gory and fun, but with no real depth.
I did enjoy the first era of Resident Evil games. Even though they were clunky, having to deal with stuff like ammo conservation always appeals to me in games. I want a zombie game that focused on survival as much as killing zombies. Setting up a safehouse, scavenging for supplies, helping or exploiting other survivors. Maybe we'll get one eventually.

Reminds me of ZRPG from DoubleBear Productions.
-
Also, there is "Urban Dead". It's a text based Zombie-Survival game etc. If you don't bother not having awzum graphicz it may be something for you. : www.urbandead.com/
Memo to myself: I am using "etc" far too often etc.

That urban Dead feels great :)

ZRPG looks good. I'll be keeping an eye on that, but it doesn't look like release will be any time soon.
And yeah, I used to have an Urban Dead account a few years ago. Logged back in today, not much changed. Fun game while it lasted, though.

Silent Hill 2. When it comes to Resident Evil, I agree with Badger - they were good while they had the old mechanics, everything until RE4 was excellent. RE: Rebirth is still my favourite survival horror ever - and the Wii edition plays well on PC with the current Dolphin version.
-
I always wanted to play Resident Evil: Outbreak. Old-style RE with a group of people would have been fantastic.
I have no idea if PS2 emulators support online play.

I have outbreak and file #2 and they sucks lot :P
But this topic is changed to resident evil :-\

I totaly agree, First movie, first game and such are alwais the best because of an exalent Idea about that game or film... When they make part 2 they just think of a good Idea how to continue the story, SO AT THIS YOUR 100% RIGHT!!!
-
My first game was Ignition, but i moved on
my favorite game is FOnline(other game i play so i will not get brainwash)

This is untrue of silent hill (and even fallout) in that none of the successors continue the story, rather they just take place in the same setting.
Anyway, SO2 is my favourite, but I love all the games, except for the phone ones and the one on GBA, but I haven't played them so who knows.

best silent hill game = silent hill 2 director's cut... the rest just dont compare... loved the movie tho

SH2 is the best, yes. But Silent Hill 3 comes pretty close !
-
i really tried to play that one... I got like maybe half way into the mall and just gave up... :( wish I could have just watched someone play that game... it's just one of those games thats a little boring to play but great to watch, like Diablo 2 lol.

It gets way better after the mall. :) SH3 had some great areas (read: scary), which brought you a good gameplay, and good experience.

I can only play really scary games when I'm pissed.
*Shoves a crowbar in that scary junkie's head.* "Bwahahahah who's scary now!?"
Silent Hill has pretty awesome atmosphere, and you can't survive everything by: RRRAAAAAARRRRRR TATATATTATATTATT.
-
heard of the new one for the wii? no combat what so ever.....
-
The combat was always just a side-effect of the games. Don't have a problem with a non-combat game with this franchise.
-
so its good? ive always wanted to try it but got turned off by the lack of combat... i didn't really feel that that would be realistic
-
To be honest, I found the combat in all Silent Hill games more annoying and sometimes even atmosphere breaking, but that's just me. And no, I don't own a Wii, never played that one. Just saw a Review Video and it looked really good.
-
well, combat is soo american cliché, just look at what blue byte did to make the settlers more accomodating to americans, we got settlers 5 out of it...
