When you just leave it open like that non citizens don't always catch that message :"You can't enter or we'll fucking kill you, take your several thousands of caps and even if you run out we'll kill you anyways because we're ass holes..."
I lost 1800 shotgun shells and 4k caps.
Fuck me.
Basically once a "citizen" opens and goes through it'll close back up and be locked so non citizens cant get in at all just like in Fo2.
-
No offense, but you should have know better than entering like that.
Nevertheless it's either a bug or a recent change as it always used to close after opening.
I recently tried to close it but didn't get a hand symbol.
-
it might be due to the army camp door...
-
I've been killed plenty of times by the guards in VC for various stupid mistakes, and I agree that they could be a little less "accidentally stand in a doorway and we'll shoot you until you're dead. Oh, and also take a -100 rep."
One time I even pushed someone who was standing too close to the gate and got him killed.

if the character does not have citizenship, then why are you standing next to the gate or login?
I was very happy with the way the gates are now working.
I spend less time and get more amenities.

Well, no longer need to enter the city without citizenship or cease to play several characters.

The all day open gates... i found it handy becouse i can just run all the way to medic terminal without stopping to open this "fu** gate" :][ Every1 must die some day, killed once there and you will remember your mistake :][

thats the next part of the "bad bad bad rangers shot me at the workbench for no reason"- story .
but seriously. these mechanics orginally to ensure the safty of players. not to nerfed them.
i saw thousend people dying at vc gate and rangers base killed by guards.
but i never saw these guards rescue a player.
-
They are there to stop people doing things. You can't see a lack of something.
-
what things? :'(
wearing a weapon for selfdefence at a place where every thief try to steal your materials for crafting?
if i had the intend to made a suicide near the workbench i am absolutly able to do it.
so they are not realy usefull to avoid this fact. in my opinion.
entering a place like vc or junktown to the wrong time or without permission?
there is nothing important in there to justify this actions..
in "atmospheric story telling"- singleplayer it makes sense. in "everybody want to kill you"- multiplayer not.
-
It makes perfect sense, in that Junktown and VC don't let you in at certain times.
wearing a weapon for selfdefence at a place where every thief try to steal your materials for crafting?
It stops a powerbuild strolling in there with a minigun and cleaning you out.

I said this because maybe is a possible exploit : a friend of mine , citizien of Vault City, sometime liked a good joke and when he spotted some person near the gate of the inner city he pass, so the guard say -greetings citizien - or -Vault city prevail- to him and forgot to say to the other - don' t try to pass or you will be eviscerated-
You may guess the outcome, another tribal killed trying to infiltrate in the sacred city.
I suggest to make a guard say the greetings and the other the warning, so avoiding to repeat a old joke ;)
-
or include playersname in greetings
