Hello, it would be nice to have a Temple of Trials from the original F2 (or with some modifications). Newbies would learn how to get stuff from people, kill animals and set up a bomb and use antidote or maybe stimpack, and HtH fight with the guy at the end. It would help young players to get used to wasteland being harsh.
There could be ants, little radscorpions and maybe herdsteader without anything in hand and our char would have a spear and a stimpack found in some vase, then as you know planting a bomb, HtH fight and maybe using antidote or even weapons! If a newbie gets killed he can start again from the begining and ask the guard at the entrance what to do etc.
Id go further than that, once leaving the Temple we would get a gun and kill 10 brahims, like in Arroyo west side where geckos were. Obviously its all for encouragement, and it wouldnt need to be located in Arroyo.
Because wasteland is harsh.

Don't you think the real way to show them this is... to drop them in the wasteland ?
-
Arroyo is not open in FOnline, we can't access it since the "Chosen One" lives there.
Also - it has beens aid several times that there won't be ingame tutorials, especially not in the temple of trials.
(though I miss them tribals a bit in FOnline, especially the music :/ )

Sure, just for a complete newbie its a bit overwhelming. I know most of the people that get here have some friend playing so that they can explain everything. Other case is when a complete newbie to fallout saga comes and dies over and over :).
Why Arroyo cant be used in game?
-
Because of the timeline.

Because of the timeline.
It couldnt be simply changed to the current time or youre refering to the fact that it is 2 years before the original F2 chosen one got there and would sound silly?
Well, many people tried before chosen ones, we saw skeletons near scorpions didnt we ;) (suggesting were not chosen ones)
It could be any map, of course its easy to say, but the temple is the original and its ready...
-
The game is called FOnline:2238 duh...
People can't just run and gun through Arroyo, it would look silly and would fuck up the timeline as Izual said.
-
Anyway, even if you cant add Arroyo, you can make an event in map of Temple of Trials, it occurs obviousl that could be great PvP map.
-
we could call it "Lost Temple FFA"

Ok, when you start F2 its 2240 right? You go to the temple and near radscorpions there are bones, skeletons etc. If theres something in the fallout bible when exactly was the Temple build it wont change anything. Ok I respect that preserving the timeline, but the temple there is old, is abandoned, has rats, ants and scorpions in them, it doesnt sound like a modern temple at all. Im not a strong supporter of underplaying the timeline. I just suggest an approach to address this to those who played F2 and to those who didnt, the Temple of trials would fulfill its main role, testing and learning new wastelanders... The NPC at the start could have some short FAQ about the game and so on.
About guns in Arroyo... Everything given or found in the Temple would be lost like in F2 and I dont confine the idea to be Arroyo, the person could be spawned to a wasteland. I know some people here are all against on the point of newbie protection, but it isnt anything like this, its about getting info, without asking anyone in the game just the NPC at the start.

I didn't have any friends when I started playing.
And I turned out alright.
If dying a few times will get you to quit this game...
Then whatever.

If the timeline is correct, at the moment (2238), the "Chosen One" doesn't even exist.
The Vault dweller is still in Vault 13 now, as stated by FOnline Wiki:
"You cannot go inside this particular Vault in FOnline: 2238, as you are restricted to the outside cave by the giant Vault 13 door. The game happening in the year 2238, the Vault's door is still closed, and will later on be opened to let the vault dweller going outside. No one can open the door, as vault's entrances are made to prevent anyone from passing through them."

Unfortunately, the Vault Dweller has left the vault long time ago. :D
"The game takes place in 2161 in Southern California and begins in Vault 13, the protagonist's home. Vault 13's Water Chip, a computer chip responsible for the water recycling and pumping machinery, has broken. The Vault Overseer tasks the protagonist with finding a replacement. He or she is given a portable device called the "PIPBoy 2000" which keeps track of mapmaking, quest objectives, and various bookkeeping aspects. Armed with the PIPBoy 2000 and meager equipment, the protagonist is sent out into the remains of California to find another Water Chip. " (about Fallout 1)
What you were quoting is the vault doors are closed at the moment, because the enclave didnt open it yet as you can see in the intro from Fallout 2.

Its Trials not Trails...
I am so sick of the misspellings on the title, I mean I can understand the paragraph having a few errors but when the guy is too lazy to spellcheck his own title... ugh. It gets annoying.
No offence but please try to get the titles right.
-
I don't see a typo in the title. :P

There isn't since its been rejected...
Btw it still took me pointing it out ::).

i'm against, I find the Temple of Trial boredom in the game too.

A newbie training ground would be nice. I've thrown my support behind this idea before. But not the temple of trials. We're not the chosen ones in this game. We're just regular vault dwelling peoples who got kicked out on our asses (actually if you read the help file, FOnline is a simulation and we're still in the vaults pretending).
No matter what kind of newbie area were to be put in the game, the biggest thing about it is that we should NOT be allowed back in once we leave. That would prevent people griefing the noobs before they're prepared to accept the fact that the wasteland is harsh. Let them leave the safety of the nest before they get killed the first time (can't you see people camping outside of the newbie training grounds? I can see myself hunting these foul noobkillers like so many vermin)

VSB would probably be all over this area killing the damn Bskers/campers.

What... My FOnline life has lost all meaning.
-
Awh Dylan, I didn't mean to burst your bubble. Actually I find that this helps with roleplaying. Cause in real life we're people playing a simulation, of being a vault dweller playing a simulation, of being in the wasteland. So the PKs and idiots don't bother me so much cause it's just a game in two freaking ways ;D
-
would be fun to have an event where we take our simulation experiences into the vault.

Closed, as "noobtown" or similar suggestions have already been refused. A tutorial may be implemented one day, but in a Beta-Test you can understand that it is not the top priority.
