In the style of this (http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52461&start=0) topic from the old NMA sub-forum.
Faction names are already scarce and there isn't enough for all gangs to have bases.
And I know the devs don't want things like I explained here (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=57.msg249#msg249) to come true, which is why we are restricted to set faction names and cannot fully choose our own.
So, we need more faction names, but sensible ones.

Okay - is there any list of accepted names? So people know what already in-game?

See, it looks like a lot. But when every player in the game wants their own workbench, they have to have their own bases. And if they're splitting from a bigger gang for this reason they could have enough money for a base almost instantly, I guess.

The claim "We don't want "The Rapists" everywhere doesn't matter, are you seriously without the ability to remove factions and ban players? if so the player is out 30k.
Plastered on stats? You mean like a character that does some feat and gets into the top players stats?
Limiting names is a stupid way to try to police something that is easy to police.

For now our faction has chosen the "forced" name from list, The Hashpipes. But we're working on a custom base project, what will be a new Town, probably restricted for a "typical" wastelanders. You have to be trusted to gain enter to the city. And there would be a base on the same map divorced by kind of a guarded gate. It's still all "in progress", but we wanted to reserve a faction name.
The name of faction is "Los Alamos Warriors".
BTW there is a small town near the ocean's shore, called Los Alamos. And it's in California, not New Mexico. The base could be there, but it's pretty far away from civilization (in pre-wipe times there were tibial around). There are centaurs, wolves, and - AFAIK young deathclaws. It would be good to put the base in there, if you want to have a better roll play background. But the way is to dangerous for there, what will result in a "ghost town" and untypical typical gang base ;) .

Do you really think the GMs want to sit there and look over everyone's faction names whenever they buy a base? You don't think they've got other things to do? And by stats I mean the Town Control where it says the gang's names. It's not easy to police if they don't have the time to police it, don't assume things.

Lexx, I've heard you guys use bots to pull info from the game files to the wiki. Is there any way to have a bot that makes some kind of notation next to each taken faction name? Like putting an asterisk or the word taken next to the name would make that list even more useful.

Why could a wordfilter not be used? filter all the profanitys you dont want in faciton names. Im sure a list of the most popular slurs could be compiled in a few languages, and if ones missed the carebears will report it quick enough

That's a pretty good idea, actually.

I don't see why offensive names are even an issue. You have people like Aryan making holocaust jokes in the forum and no one cares. We are playing a game filled with junkies, prostitutes, murderers and cannibals. It's not like there are many young players since they weren't alive when fallout 2 existed and without the nostalgia I doubt many young players would start playing fonline since its so dated looking.

Words like "gay", "rape", "nigger" etc. are not only insults, it's also childish to use them.
Many things in the game are ridicolous now, lets not make it even more silly.
That's a pretty good idea, actually.
When someone wants to name a gang for example "The emo rapers" and both words are in a filter, they just call it "Tehemorapers" or "Teh.Emo.Rapers" etc.

Gangs usually go by acronyms, bang bang smash imo is a pretty retarded name for a gang. Plsu who cares if someone makes a name about rape? The wasteland would be like disneyworld for rapists.

I for myself would care. And I don't think that I'm the only one.
As I said, the atmosphere and the setting is already messed up with "lol I shuut u u boon omg wtf!1111" and so on players, we don't need to increase the damage they do to the atmosphere and the immersion.

Im not easily offended and people could make whatever faction names they liked without the sightest bit of concern, I dont see why someones choice of faction name should be any concern of your anyway unless its directly and blatently offencive?

Okay so I'm trying to save up to buy the most expensive base, 130,00 if I remember correctly. When I get the amount needed and talk to the guy that sells me the base, what exactly happens?
So, from what I've read, you can't just create a faction name to be anything - it has to be a name that already exists - Is this right?
So when I talk to the guy that gives me the base, I can't just say "I want my faction name to be.... Fdasds"? I don't see why we can't just do that, and have to pick from a already-existing list.
