Title: Furniture Store
Post by: Grampy on June 05, 2010, 05:27:25 am
There should be a furniture store that sells items for base/tent usage. I suggest two categories of items; Utility and Decorative.

Utility Items:
Containers such as Lockers, crates, chests, pots, ect, ect.
Workbench
Meat Table (Would kill random brahmin in the same map)
Still
Potted Plants (fruit and Fiber, These would only regrow a limited ammount of times)

Decorative Items:
Various Rocks
"Preserved Corpses on a stick"- Like the ghost farm in Modoc, or guy hanging from a Lamp Post in Boneyard, some factions would want to send a message like that.
Metal Barrels
Assorted Junk

As much as we all want things like this, it isn't possible right now. I believe the way FOnline runs is it loads premade maps. In order to change any of the static objects on the map, the whole map must be reloaded, meaning anything on the ground disappears and maybe other such problems. Hopefully there will be a solution in the future, but AFAIK, we can't do it right now.

What a pitty because it sounds like a hell of a idea.

Any comments from Devs about this?

If you drop your furniture out in the wasteland, yah it will be missing, but not in a base or tent. People in my faction already decorate the base by dropping items on the ground. It started off with rocks, for having rock wars while bored (Some people kill noobies for Lolz, I throw rocks at your Groin, I maintain that what I do is funnier). Then sombody started a flower garden. Sometimes they'll spell out phrases by dropping stuff, or make paths. The only thing that's really stayed is a Fire Gecko skin, because it locks hella cool when on the ground.

These items aren't static or drawn on the map itself, they're just sprites. You may recall an error Message you get sometimes when clicking on a bookshelf in the original fallout. "You can't Pick that item up", "It weighs too Much" or something to that effect. Its because bookshelves are just items that weigh alot.

It shouldn't be hard to just make an item that does nothing with a chair sprite and a cap value.

Things to decorate made me laugh, but a possiblity of buying things like Still, Workbench, plants etc. seem to be fine idea.

Devs already said they won't do that.

Its really not as simple as dropping something on the ground and then it magically works, this is why when there was a bug and benches were spawning in peoples inventories they didnt work.

i personally find lockers useless since their carry weight is really damn limited, and i rather by caravans for storage instead.

I wasn't gonna try Magic, but I was hoping science skill might work :P But I know nothing of programming. There are still decorative items to be considered.

I don't think it's possible, people would drop such items in cities (I imagine some of them doing that just to block the path for other players) and someone would have to clean that mess.

They wouldn't block the hex, you can stand over them just like any item. Plus it wouldn't get messy because people stel everything. With unlimited shit that turns into items there should be shit everywhere but there isn't.

That's because those "furniture" objects who were pickable where bugged. For now it's still as Gunduz wrote:
