Title: Flee command for mercs
Post by: Roachor on May 30, 2010, 02:51:23 am
Have a hotkey that overrides all commands and forces your merc to run towards you, this way you can quickly avoid having them attack dangerous targets they have no chance of beating in rt and allow a quick escape.

use alt commands
Yes use move to then run and lose your mercs dude, alt commands are very sketchy when it comes to this.

So I have to click run to high priority on the edge of the map, then run myself there before my mercs reach that spot and engage the enemy all in the 3 seconds between seeing what the encounter is and combat initiating. Yeah that's totally reasonable.

Better idea, give the merc a new behavior.

"I want you to flee (follow me) at all times, unless I shoot at somoene."

This would be THE behavior for brahmin and mining slaves.

That would be a better option, I like it.

Is this supported or declined by devs?

maybe make some use for the num keys?
9-5 to select a Certan slave,
4 to choose all slaves,
3 to move slave,
2 to command them to attack who you target
1 to stop them
0 to deselect Slave

maybe something like that  ;D

btw +1 on this idea, Mercs/Slaves needs better control, and its a pain that they just run in and waste ammo/there lifes/ the lifes of our friends who visit us but our slaves/mercs are on attack everyone but faction.... yeah.... thats happend like, 4-5 times for me?

the controllability of Mercs is defined by the perception of the leader.
sniper leader utopia!  :-\

and jeah, new command like:
"don´t attack !!!!!!!!(or run out of my field of view)!!!!!!! until you are dead"
would be fine  ::)

They would still be in follow mode, more like:

"Don't attack, run and regroup"

Or

"Don't attack, run and regroup via, Radio."

Ofc that would make it to where many other AI changes would need to be implemented but yeah... radio is perfect for this idea.

IMO:

Alt should just be a "shift" key, to shift between commanding your character, and merc. Like if you have alt pressed, you are controlling the mercs, click with crosshairs-> merc attacks targeted, click with red-outlined-hex -> merc moves to that location.

Later edit: A bit more on this: Alt+right click would remain a menu for advanced commands, like stop all actions, holster weapon, switch weapon, stop all actions etc, and in addition, it would have the low priority move/attack commands aswell. Example: Alt+attack click an enemy is a high priority command. Alt + attack clicking would be another high priority, thus it means target switching. However, alt+right click on secondary opponent, then selecting attack, lower priority means to queue targets, so that when primary is killed, proceed to secondary. Thus high pririty actions that needs quick actions are done via basic controlls with alt pressed, but can still queue with merc menu

i dont like double clicking to run most of the time, espeshily when im running from a enounter,
Shift is already used for a quick run move

Misunderstood. To make the mercs run, press alt+shift+click somewhere

Shift stays the run button. Tho i want an allways run option plx :(
