Title: Low Poly Vault Dweller
Post by: Rocco on May 01, 2010, 11:20:10 am
Here it is. Low Poly Vault Dweller .Making  this was a real pleasure,  since  this was the only thing that could drive me away from playing Fonline (in the free time, of course ;) It is as low poly as it could get - 296 polygons or triangles .Still work in progress, though. Its a bit harder to make 3d model  based on few sprites, so i guess some tweaking is in order to cover full silhouette and anatomy of famous vault dweller. The thing that also affects the final tweaking is further planned animations. So a word from project creators would be helpful regarding what system they use, like bones , biped etc. for real time animations in fonline engine.

Do you plan to animate the model soon?

Keep in mind, it can't be used for FOnline: 2238, because we are using the Van Buren player models.

Ah, so the 3d character contest is over ;)
Never mind. It was fun and a challenge to make 3d character as close as possible to original graphics.

Yeah it's a shame you did a great job. I'm pretty excited to be a fat bearded guy with a shotgun though.

??? why can't this be used? van buren models are really ugly and don't look anything like fallout.

This is not because of the model, but because of the animations. Therefore, new models mean nothing, if the animations are the same.

Beside this, all body attachements we have (hair, etc.) is based on the Van Buren models. If we would use new models, all have to be redone.

Well, how about uploading a reference VanBuren model with UV wrap for our modelers, so they can begin to customise already, or is it too soon for that?

The Van Buren models are public since long time.

I have a question about 3d graphics .Does the implementation of 3d means that 3d will be used only for characters and creatures and weapons etc..? Or it will be used for background graphics, aka maps , levels etc?

The 3D Models Will Only be For Critters, like people, Monsters Ect. The Maps Will stay as they are

I'd say, not directly.

If you want to model a mountain, buildings, furniture, cars etc, you're not limited to polycount, BUT you will not place the model itself, just the render of it as scenery.
Higher polycount demands also more quality.
Perhaps you could visit the thread (http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=49812&start=0) on NMA, read, learn the techniques and ask those nice people to comment and criticisize your work.
