While I was playing, I had an idea: What if animals (non-sentient) only attacked on sight based upon your outdoorsmanship + charisma? A certain level would be necessary, but when you got in high enough, the animals would fail to attack you (and only you) when you approached them.
This lead to the obvious thought that even higher capacity with outdoorsman would let you literally capture anything as a follower, but that's been brought up before, I believe.
-
how about being able to slave (tame) most critters in the game ? and getting them to level up ?
-
This Has Been Suggested, A MILLION TIMES!!! And I Like it.
IMPLEMEMNT
-
It shouldnt be based on CHA, i don't think that molerats cares if you look good.
-
charisma is more than looking good, it's about your actions, for example, if you're charismatic enough you can mimic a molerat so well, it gets confused just about what in the hell you are.
still wanna tame baby deathclaws and breed them for profits, selling em for 2000 caps each, making a force of formidable attack (dogs?) and later invading ncr with 250 of em.
-
I believe that taming animals is very good idea but we should not be able to tame anything that moves. Lets say that centaurs/floaters should be tamable only by supermutants (races will not be such problem with 3d) etc.
-
what about baby deathclaws, who should be able to tame them? :'(
-
I had a crazy idea about utilizing characters that have a high science/repair skill, but no combat skills, and introduce new gameplay elements. Ofc as this is a small project it likely wont happen but what the heck..
Why not let crafter toons with a high reapir/science skill choose a new perk. A new perk that lets them build robots to defend them, or turrets to defend a base! Behold my brethren, teh Engineer class is born!(Anarchy Online reference) They arent good at handling a gun(repair and science consuming most skill points), but hey, i would not recommend touching the guy if he has a f****g sentry bot on his side with mounted miniguns and hellfire rockets :D
And while im at it, a character with a high charisma is a good troop transport, but other then that, they are like crafter alts, useless. He can hire mercs, but why does it cost money?? How about another perk for peeps with a high speech skill and charisma, to be able to gather followers, like mercs to defend him? Behold, teh Beurocrat class!(another Anarchy Online reference which is a scifi mmorpg btw)
Hmm how about utilizing the outdoorsmen skill, so the group has a Scout? High outdoorsmen, but little to no combat skills? No problem! Just choose the animal friend perk, that lets you tame wild beasts not just brahmin, duh... Again, the higher the outdoorsmen(and PE), the more and/or deadlyer beasts can be tamed, at the expense of not beeing able to hold a minigun properly..
What about the melee class? How about a high level perk that turns them into a Tank? With a high enough skill in melee, he can choose a perk that lets him wear Power Armor! Yeah thats right, PA, and want to know how this wont imbalance the game? Well simple! He cant choose perks that boost his DPS. High endurance, but low damage output.
Lets not forget about the Grenadier ofc. High throwing/traps skill enables a perk that boost the radius of grenades, or maybe not the blast radius, only add an extra effect to the explosion that knocks back/down mobs in a higher vicinity.
Doctor needs a revamp...
Snipers and Support gunners would get there own perks that can be chosen at 200+ skill.
If you read carefully, most of the fictional characters ive brought up in my post are allready in the game, but only in the form of crafter alts. IMO giving them tools to be effective in a group situation, and letting them actually defend themselves would help the economy in more then 1 way...
-
i like the idea of the engineer, (i zoomed into the qoute lolz), then at last we wouldent have to keep hireing mercs or captureing slaves, Engineer class could make base defences and Robot followers, and sell the Robot followers if he wanted, just need to program it to follow its new master, the only thing thats diffrent for these followers/ base defences are that they need to be healed useing the repair skill, rather then the FA/Doc skills, but shouldent be half as effeshent then FA, (FA is like 100% in skill heals 100hp at Max chance, Repair is 100%, heals 50% of its Hp)
and course there isent many Robot or animated defence sprites for now, so far the only ones i know of are the Mr. Handy and the auto turrets from vault city, but how about.... Andriods?, it would be awsome! and you couple calibrate it into the skin you want it to look like, aslong as you have the armor for it to use, it would be like
level 1 Floating Eye Bots
level 2 Mr.Handy, Base Defence turrets
level 3 Andriods
this would realy help with defending bases from ex members of that faction who still come into it and likes messing things around, but are to hard to kill yourself or with your friends and dont have much cash left for Mutants with chain guns
EDIT: completly forgot the floating eye bots from Fallout 1 hehe

Hey look, buddy, I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'What is beauty?' because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. For instance, how am I gonna stop some mean mother-hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind?
The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work. Use more gun.
Like this heavy-calibre tripod mounted little ol' number, designed by me, built by me, and you'd best hope... not pointed at you. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipYkuCZ2IYI)

I like that, but I will go further... The more outdoorsman, the lesser chance or sequence to be attacked or not attacked at all ... but regarding just animals not humanoids and aliens that would be too much ;)
-
They aren't friendly woodland creatures, they're mutant predatory beasts.
-
Taming wild animals should be a part of the oh-so-awaited Scout/Trapper profession. Maybe thanks to it Scouts won't be only alts ;]
Yeah, I don't mean taming Aliens or Deathclaws... but dogs (definetely!), rats or geckos could be a nice bonus.
-
i want to see the taming feature in this game, but it have to be restricted to some tipe of chars(high skill requeriment). i dont want to see every char with a death claw pet.
if some day races was implemented (gohul, mutants) can be a beastlord race.
or some trait that allow you to tame some wild animals.
-
I want to tame a fire gecko... Would it be possible? Fire geckos aren't that bad actually, they are powerful. Good idea anyway.
Also, don't make tamable death claws, centaurs, floaters, aliens, NCR patrols, Enclave patrols... Oh wait, these guys are humans >.< . Don't make tamable desert stalkers, spore plant, (?) radscorpion (?) and other stuff that are too mutated to be tamed...
-
I think that anything other than dogs shouldn't be tamable, at least dogs have been human companions since the damn of time. Lizards don't train, neither do bugs. (deathclaws are lizards)
-
I'm with Roachor.
Deathclaws, Geckos, heck even Radscorpions etc. shouldn't be tameable. Those are dangerous creatures out in the wastes, not some buffalos one can domesticate... The only thing I'd imagine is that you can "catch" at least "lower tier" critters, like geckos f.e. So you put a rope around the neck of this little fucker, but you always have to beware that this creature doesn't bite your hand off...

i guess thats true, but people do keep pets that should be considered to dangerous to keep as pets already in reallife, so why cant scouts or whatever is comeing in be able to at least catch Geckos, Radscorps, dogs, and maybe a desert stalker, as i see it mutation can effect the inteligance of the critter, some people can tame even a insane person who acts more like a animal then human if they can treat em the right way, might be hard to find that way though
-
Desert stalkers are bugs... how can they be tamable? Oh well, then we could tame a... Ah crap, just checked wiki and there are no actual creatures other then dogs that would sound like tameable.
Heres what I found to be from 50%-100% tamable:
Mole rat
Pig rat
Rat
Lil gecko (doesn't include golden gecko, silver gecko or fire gecko)
Dog
And that's it, as you can see Fallout 2 has a quite small critter selection.
-
still sounds pretty good... having 3 lil geckos would be a great distraction in tb combat... but the true purpose of taming small critters would be to level them up and bring a rat with 11hp at lvl1 to have 30hp at level 21... it would still be useless but if it was easy to level them up to 21 they would be pretty useful in tb when you go out looking for raiders or geckos...
taming big critters would be unbalanced (maybe...their just critters after all; fucking weak) but if you could tame a baby deathclaw and raise it to be a deathclaw eventually that would be sweet... super mutants should be a challenge but bah they dont really seem tamable but then again Lenny in NCR is a domesticated super mutant from Fallout 1 ... and I strongly believe that if the npcs can do it in the Fallout lore why not the player? They implemented crafting soooooooooooo yeah...
guna b a tough call but they should atleast definately allow the taming of small critters... maybe they should lock this post?
-
Supermutants have human intelligence, you can't really "tame" them. Lizards can't be tamed because they don't have the brain for it, dogs are trainable because they evolved to work in social groups.
-
What Roachor said.
Also keep in mind, sure people can tame dangerous animals in Real Life. But first - the game don't need to be realistic, second, all the creatures dwelling the wasteland are much more dangerous then our Real Life animals (death claws, fire geckos etc. in "our" world those are just chamaleons, lizards etc)
-
people can be manipulated expecially from a pretty face
-
i bet a tiger can easly take out even a golden gecko, geckos may be mutated, but there just not as fast as a Tiger or im betting as strong as a Lion :-\ and some people keep thoes komoto dragons, yeah just a Lizard, but it can just bite you and the desieses it carrys from all thoes things it eats fill you and eventualy kills you (at least thats what i've read), not to mention the large chunk it could possibaly take out of you, and thoes were tamed and kept as companions, and course the game dosent have to be realistic, but it dosent have to stop something potentialy good coming in, thats what this part of the forum is for isent it? real life or made up, as long as its good (and balanced) hopfully it will be put in and make a bunch of people happy and more people would play if they had more options,
also i just realized that yes a desert stalker is a bug, i dont pay much attechin to things im trying to run to the other side of the map lolz,
sooo.... i guess that it is, im guessing a hive critter, if its like a ant i mean, but i have yet to see a Desert Stalker queen, but if it is a hive creature then im sure it cant be tameable
-
thats what this part of the forum is for isent it?
Yep. Don't take my posts too serious, it's just my opinion! :) Just because one posts here who doesn't like it or wants to modify it, it doesn't mean other opinions aren't welcome. ;)

i guess, its just a lil itmitating to see someone going against it, as i see it it shouldent get in anyones way unless things get unbalanced, like if we could take death claws as companions, i guess i just take things a bit to serious if it can stop it from happening, you know, the more people dont like it, maybe the Dev's wont bother adding it in. so gota defend it a bit at least
-
I just want to say, that some people acutally tame iguanas chameleons, so they don't run away from their owner, so geckos are actually same iguanas and chameleons just mutated. Mutated = more brains (or maybe gone crazy due to radiation effect)
-
Lizards can't be tamed because they don't have the brain for it, dogs are trainable because they evolved to work in social groups.
But why do you encounter geckos in packs? They hunting in a group from 3 to very much, so they are socials ;p

Does anyone sense the same key words, beastlords or beast master, as I do? Whether or not this is going to be implanted I would like to see global follower cap for beasts doubled compare to slaves. So if you want to fight me fight a pack of dogs or swamp of mantis first. Maybe you can even put those little bugs in capsules so that they are not followers but more like summoned creatures. :P
-
i want to tame small deathclaw :-) cute little monkey :]

Well, I don't think you can put like 20 centimetres big mantis in your bag... well even more you can't, if you have about 5 of them. Or a dog... and this isn't actually a phantasy RPG, this is postapocalyptic and you can't summon friendly monsters, like in most other MMORPGS.
-
Actually you can put bugs in life animation suspension stack them in capsules (even compress a little bit) and reanimate them within minutes, especially for lower form of life such as mantis. The summoning part is actually a joke.

that's a good point, how are both your eyes getting hit by one bullet? Maybe eyeshots should only be done from the side...
