Title: having native english speakers proof read dialouge.
Post by: Aricvomit on April 07, 2010, 11:38:40 pm
Heya, I'm not intending this to be offensive or rude but I've notice some of the dialogue written for npc's could be worded better or at least altered a bit, for example an npc said to me, Go make a shoe, random person from the desert... welllll.. this makes no sense unless it was intended that I craft a pair of boots or something, its just small things like this that take away from the ambiance of the overall experience, little bits of slang and sayings and stuff add flavor but make no sense if they are incorrectly used or worded slightly wrong, and yes I guess I should say I'd be glad to proof read stuff if there is a script or something, like I said i appreciate all the hard work thats going into this game and think that dialogue is an important aspect of fallout. I would really like to see this game shiny with polish, thanks again.

Agreed. Many of us are willing to do it. I'll volunteer.

I prefer it the way it is.

It adds flavor.

Please do NOT have native speakers "fix" the english text.

("engrish" it makes me chuckle, and Fallout is supposed to have humor.)

Well its true that wasteland is not made of educated people but imho dialogues at some places could use some changes. I'm not native english speaker but even I sometimes notice that there is something wrong.

The difference is that the humor of fallouts dialogue wasnt meant to come from misphrasing or using the langauge incorrectly, its meant to come from intelligent and humorous dialogue that builds a character, I dont know about you but I think it gives characters much more personality when they make you laugh or evoke anger of some sort, I dunno, like the conversation between the enclave guy at the power station in gecko and the chosen one (fo2, i think i had a resoration mod, i dont remember) was absolutely hilarious, and then running into them when you were trying to leave town. It was great and the dialogue was the reason it was great.

Go proofread wiki and help Izual plox. kthxbai.

EDIT: Don't know why I felt like writing it that way. But please do help out with the wiki a bit.

Wait, ill just add "Troll" to my signature, so everyone can se that im a Troll, so you dont need to troll your own thread by pointing out that im a Troll.
Sorry.

I thought the "Make a shoe" line was wierd too. There.

It's more the quests that read like "Uncle viktor needs you to spelunk into the caves to find kerosene for his hectare of sheep"
