Hi. I was wondering how it is that I can be alone in the wastes fighting animals when suddenly three dudes appear and start shooting me? They weren't in my party so how did they find me? Thanks.

It happens when someone traveling on the world map comes near you and enters your encounter. If you ever spot an encounter that says 'wastelander' that's another player. There's no surefire way to avoid it, you just have to be prepared to fight (or run like hell). The only advice i can give is to hunt away from the paths between major towns.

Aha! That makes sense. Thanks.

its like this: I won't kill you, I'll just shot with my gun at you and what happens I don't care 8)

That probably won't hold up in court.

It's pretty much pure ass luck if other players find your encounter or not. Like Gunduz said it's a good idea to avoid areas between major towns or immidiately around them when looking for exp or resources.
That probably won't hold up in court.
It does in the "Wasteland Court" where the dude/douche with the bigger gun and better fighting skills is the judge, the jury, the prosecutor and the executioner :P

ÿes, and the tax collector, and the repo depot

If you fight near citys there is a higher chance to be spotted by other players. When you go far away to the edges of the world map for example then you will be more save, but there it could also happen..
