Title: Backpacks and tools.
Post by: Vanessa on April 02, 2010, 04:27:27 am
I know it's been suggested somewhere before, but having backpacks or tools which give you a bonus to carry weight or a skill when held would be nice.

I mean, there's supposed to be items like that already. For example the paramedic bag is supposed to give a bonus to first aid when you use it, currently, it doesn't do anything.

But with the fact that some skills like science, and repair take such high skills to use, it would make sense that using a tool would increase your chance to repair.

Also backpacks would make lovely additions for those mining trips or when you plan to trade a lot of things.

It would be like +11kg while held, not that great, and it takes up a free hand, so Stong Back and Pack Rat are still useful perks.

You mean like an Item that you can only hold in your hand but can carry additional weight? it would be cool.
Also I agree about the paramedics bag, and as I said on my own post, it could help with crippled limbs in TB combat.
I think the Tool already gives you a bonus to repair when held.

I assume if you are carrying 100 lbs of stuff you already have a backpack.

It is implicit rather than explicit.

I would still like to have backpacks and bags for inventory organization.

Maybe for other purposes.

I suppose the main problem however is that people are tempted to spend points away from str and take perks other than pack rat and strong back. For example a sniper char shouldn't even dream of taking some carry weight related perks if he wants to be as good sniper as possible.

I assume if you are carrying 100 lbs of stuff you already have a backpack.

This is how it goes.

Mean vedaras is fail vedaras... Anyway, if you have 80 carry weight, you can carry stuff wich weight is 80. So, if you buy a bag, you put stuff in it and that weight all of a sudden dissapears? No no no, this is for games where carry weight doesnt matter, but inventory slots matter. Games like Diablo, World of Warcraft, Deus Ex.

why not a Brahman with a workbench built on the back, or perhaps a carvan, it could take high repair skill to make and be awesome.

Caravan carts with a whole workbench built in. That's be so imba I want it.
Right now half of the factions currently created are just to have a workbench in a safe place because tents can already be shared and have limitless space.
Make them buyable for 10,000 caps and everybody'd be happy.

As for the suggestion:
A cow works like a backpack. You put stuff in her (don't ask where) and she carries it around for you even if it's 5000 ore.

Go pick up a 25lb weight, free hand. Put that same thing in a backpack, and it will feel much lighter.

Anyways, it was just a suggestion.

And to the guy saying "take 10 strength or strong back/packrat", carry weight isn't important to me, I can carry everything I need. IT WAS A SUGGESTION.

On the other hand, I didn't see him complaining about the tool suggestion. Let's discuss that one. :3

What a surprise! Because they don't work! :D There's supposed to be a lot of held items that increase your skills when you use them, and none of them are currently working. :D So fuck off! :D

when they are in your hand they do work and they do increase your repair (both chance to successfully repair and amount of % repaired) so you should try expanding your game experience instead of fucking others off.

Yes because I don't have access to the dozen tools in our base that nobody uses. How about some screenshots of proof before you go shooting your mouth off. :3

Tool and super toolkit work and it's a fact. So you fuck off, as you said.

Make lvl 1 char. Craft five 5 10mm guns and get them to 50%. Try repairing all of them with low repair skill. See how many failed.
Now do the same for 50% 10mm guns but while holding tool in your hand. See that the results are much better.
