Right now getting high quality stuff is really hard unless you are in a gang or faction. 3 times out of 4 I´ve been killed while going to the Brooken Hill mine, sometimes I don´t even get close but I get shot right inside Broken Hill by PKers. And if I wake up north of the Den as I usually takes me 30 real time minutes to be able to make a new try only to get killed again. All this is due to PK. Being on your own is way to hard right now.
One solution could be to have guards patrolling around and maybe inside the mine at certain hours, for example, the guards are there for 30min-1h during the morning and then they make another sweep right before dawn. That would let players running on their own (as I kinda do right now) be able to get at least some hq ore.
As it is right now the only players with easy access to HQ ore are the faction players and PK, and we don´t need them to have a monopoly on the good stuff...

Be able for Controled town, that Controling factiound could provide some militia together with some slaves or freelance miners or for each person mining there some bonus for that town as long as militia is there.

they still stand no chance against a roving band (7-20) of assholes in metal armour and snipers, killing fur da lulz.
they are gonna slaughter as many bluesuits as possible before getting mowed down by an organised faction.

Part of the initial concept was to have NPC factions come and guard the locations they would be interested in for periods of the day. (Enclave guarding BH mines for example) - so that members of the NPC factions would have a chance to get the stuff they needed.
Then at other times have critters that were hostile for all, to give people a challenge if they wanted it.
I've still not given up on nagging to get these included at some point, though I have no idea when.

Yup, these things take time, but I want to add more NPC based action to the gathering for advanced materials :)

Think of the brave Enclave soldiers. They need some action, like randomly kicking ass in the Wasteland.
Or are they just bore around in Navarro and play cards?

Fine idea, but still sounds like an alts' job :/ Rather not good implement for a current state of NPC factions. Although the part with critters seems cool ;]
To the rest of you guys -> sorry, but I think people just got used to magically appearing stuff. Hell, most of you don't even wear armors just to take more ore with you. If you really need to get those advanced stuff, put those panties on, organise yourselves in a mob and ripp apart every sonuva(...) who will stand between you and your mining site. It's that simple.
(I really can't understand why people who just want to kill anything so easily organise themselves, while those 'real' gamers have so many problems with it.)
Of think of something else. Crafting finally offers some challange. Is it that bad?

That's because people who are posting here wanting to get some HQ mats mostly play loner chars. It's not really possible to organize a party to guard you if you don't already know enough people.

I think you're right. But playing a loner char will always have drawbacks, simply because you're playing alone. I - for the moment - play a loner char too and I also have that stupid problem that I cannot make my favourite LA MKII without help, simply 'cause golden geckos are still a bit too much for my crafter... But that is how it SHOULD look like. Why do people think we need to have everything?
Besides, I think that PKs are finally doing something good. After months of killing defensless newbies trying to figure out how to finish 'brahmin crap quest' PKs help to create WAR OVER RESOURCES. Sorry, what can be more Fallout than that? War never changers, the world fell because people were killing themslelves over res. and now it's the same ;]
... or like i Mad Max 2 when those senseless bandits were trying to get their hands on that fuel....
Well, devs, please, don't change it. I haven't play THAT much after the wipe, but now I can't wait when my char will finally became interested in HQ ore and I'll take part in this little war... ;]

There are golden geckos east-ish of Broken Hills and they don't appear in huge swarms usually. I killed two with a shotgun on level 2 taking only two hits. Just burst them as soon as they get in range.
As for war over resources, I agree and disagree. I agree that it's good, but disagree about not having "safe hours."
I play a loner char, but I'm not alone actually. I'm in the raiders faction. And they should have some kind of caravans every now and then trying to get resources for themselves. Especially since they're so close.
Same with BoS and Enclave. Every player joining them should have some benefit and not just "I join them for profession and leave in 5 seconds." That's lame.

As long as we will have any window for 'safe' digging, everybody will be safely digging - except newbies and 'too honest' people like me :/ - no war ever, gangs get their stuff peacefully, newbies get shot by PK, just as always, only worse :/ As long as there are alts, any kind of 'safe digging', or 'Enclave hours' will destroy the whole 'HQ resources' idea. HQ - means those which you have to dig with an alt. It won't be like 'it is easier/faster to use alts. It will be like 'it is nearly impossible to do it without alts'.
Unfortunately people prefer to go naked with only a sledge just to have more minerals and when it comes to getting stuff - awoid every danger there might be. Another mine - yes, but not guarded.

EDIT: I don't realy understand why many people are so sure one HAS to be able to safely and easily do and make EVERYTHING a game has to offer. OK, it is important to be able to make simple stuff pretty fast (so the game won't become tedious fighting for a damn 10mm pistol to have sth to shoot with), it is OK to make 'medium' stuff quite easily (so that people won't be forced to run around in leather jackets all the time), but the HIGH-END stuff should be hard to get. What fun it is to just go and make 50 best CAs and keep them lying in your base (as it was before the wipe). I mean - does 30 spare avangers are so important? Does EVERYBODY has to run around in best armour and best weapon after certain fixed number of clicks in the game? Does TC wars need to look like 15CA's + 10avangers + 5snipers vs 15CAs +11avengers + 4snipers? Is it really so important to make everything without a problem and get bored after stuffing your base with everything you may ever needx50?

Huh? If it's just a short (day?) window every maybe week (game time that is every 8,4 hours for 34 minutes, but it's just an example). That gets only faction members to dig. So for example 6 enclave troops stand by and have some slaves and members dig stuff into a caravan. It could be a rewarded quest even. Guarding a caravan on its way and digging stuff for them. So that'd be a total of 4-something hours taken up by factions each day with the remaining 19-odd hours left for anyone with a well-armed party to gather HQ ores.
Hardly "you have to use an alt to get it" if you ask me. It's be certainly more friendly for members of NPC factions and loners would still be shot in the head.

Another mine with only standard ores would be welcome near Hub. And HQ ones could be south of Glow or something.
People go in naked because they expect to be killed on sight. Nobody goes in with gear alone because they'll be killed even faster. And if you have a party, you already go there one way or another.

Huh? Are you telling me there are people stupid enough to let random strangers tag along and even tell them when they'll be going to an unsafe location geared up? And they don't get slaughtered on entry 9 times out of 10? I must be playing some other game...

I agree with you here, but your reasoning is flawed. If it is possible to get a CA and avenger then they will be used for TC. Because they're the best item to use, so people do whatever it takes to get them.
Factions taking part in TC are already organized enough to go kill everyone in a mine and quickly grab as much as they can before leaving, so I guess it's not too hard for them to get plenty of high-end stuff anyway.

As someone who is heavily involved in unguarded mines, I can tell you even now, without guards, people are using 3-5 alts (including dual logging) to gather HQ materials; during off peak hours. The use of guards will just promote this even more, because people will increase the use of alts at the times when there are guards to develop a stock pile and then they will again wait until the guarded time when they can use their alts causing 100% safe mining (exactly what Devs did not want as I understand it for HQ materials).

If if there are bos/enclave/unity mines teams present there shouldn't be 100% make them killable by well organized player team and reward would be a caravan and say 50 HQ mines. Also if you want to mine under the protection of bos/enclave/unity you have to pay for the protection, unless your reputation is above 2000 or sth.
Make unguarded mine random stalking creatures is a brilliant idea. Also raiders shouldn't overlook the opportunity of a lucrative business: to raid HQ mines once every other week.
