Here is a raw idea. ( i used search to see if the idea was already mentioned but this was not the case)
how about craftable sign boards we already have placable containers

1. Like the notice boards in NCR but with item icons on them.

2. OR with a small text input on them if you hover over them so you know which room/chest belongs to who in a base or to leave sign taunts


Cratable : just use 5 wood and a fiber to craft a sign and maybe a item.

5 wood and a fiber + leather armor= armor sign post
Would be cool to place next to chests so we know what's in it
