Title: password not being accepted
Post by: Pilgore on February 12, 2013, 09:04:50 pm: my password isnt working. i have tried to create a new character with my characters same name, and it says its taken, so i know my character didnt get deleted. i know i didnt forget my password, because its the one i have used for all my characters, in all games. i never told anyone my password either. character name is PILGORE, same as my forum one.

For get a new the password you have to write in game: ~changepassword "CURRENT" "NEW" then press ENTER and re-log with the new password.

You then may have accidently added/removed a character from it when logging in causing it to say it being incorrect.
You then retyped it 'correctly' but seeing your password was wrong in the first place, your unable to login.

Or it could have just been stolen...

I think passwords are case-sensitive if that helps.

The only thing that could probably be checked is the creation date. But characters haven't been stored in plaintext format for a few years and password is encrypted.

Keep your passwords strong and in a safe place. Never share a character. If you play on someones else PC, clean the game cache when you finish. If someone stole your account or you forgot the password, then well... tough shit. It's a free game done in our free time and we don't have resources to investigate such cases.

i want my character back. i have strong anti virus and my computer is clean. someone obviously guessed my password and then changed it.

i want my character back, and i know you can help me. and yet you cant be bother to do that. that is pretty sad that you would act this way.

Dude, you won't get any help, if you would I could get help too with one of my alts which I've changed password and forgot.
It was just you or someone who took your character and changed password, and you just forget it.
Just make another alt, and it'll be fine.

but your right. someone took mine and changed it. this wasnt one of my alts. it was my only character. i spent months and months getting it to where it was. i can prove it by describing my build, somthing VERY specific to the build itself that only i would know. i dont want to say it on the forums, but i will message one of the mods/devs if they feel like not being selfish and helping someone in the community, which by the way, makes the game.

Actually Johnny Nuclear (one of the devs) has a few characters/nicks stolen. So I surely wouldn't bet my ass.

1) You would have to prove you had this char this seesion.
2) You would have to prove you didn't give access to character to someone else (which is impossible to do because it would be just word of new owner against yours).
3) Characters are stored in non-plain-text files I am not sure if they really are encrypted or it's just some binary format, but it's not plain-text format anymore so even if you would be able to prove points 1 and 2 only thing that could be done without convincing new owner to voluntarily give it back is deleting the character entirely. (The character files are [to my knowledge] handled via engine, and engine devs have better things to do than to add backdoors into the system incase someone would forget their password.)

so we can't really help you

its mine, i made it, i leveled it, i spent hours and hours farming to get everything i had. i want it back. you probably dont know how hard it is to play this game solo, seeing as you guys have factions. i dont. i did everything by myself, for myself. and after all the time and effort i spent, i have to start from scratch all over again? no. i want my character back.

Dude, you do not understand, it's not kindergarten where you say " it was my toy, because it got scratches and its mine" noone will believe you, thats nothing bad, just understand this that you made a mistake and need to make another alt jeez.

factions doesnt make game easier but brings more goals, what makes your gameplay rly difficult. I can tell you that it was realy easy for me just grinding and collecting stuff for no reason. But now when iam with faction and PVP active, it made me to leave most of my superefficient habits. Also i have only minimum of knowledge from my faction, all i know and got is made by just playing solo, sometimes listening to other "adventurers".

You can learn (almost)everything yourself, but players might help with their knowledge significantly. So no need reinventing everything again. Thats maybe what you mean being in faction.

But do not expect that joining faction will make you wealth guy or smthing.

If you need help you can learn a lot of useful stuff in The Last Light. Thats , i would say "movement" which helps nabz to leave their nab behaviour ;)

Post by: Pilgore on February 13, 2013, 07:26:31 pm: it took me a over a week to level one, seeing as i cant play every day. and im not upset about leveling a new character, im upset about losing all my stuff, which i worked hard for. it was a lot of stuff to, enough to last months of constant pvp or pve. armors, ammo, guns, all bought or farmed, none were crafted seeing as my character wasnt a crafter.

If your goal from begining is to kill everything on sight, then yes! faction might help you, becouse thats basicaly only mutual goal i can see.

and for you greenthumb, i think its the language barrier not making you understand what im trying to say. fact of the matter is, the game is easier when you are in a faction, or even playing with other people.

Im pretty sure its easier to play in a gang, because not only you share certain assets (cars, bases, tools..), but youre in touch with players and their advices and alt skills.

Are you sure? I just know current DEVs arent able to help players who keep getting information about occupied hex on log in, becouse information is stored somewhere (encrypted or not) on server without permissions.

you just lost another player to a dieing game. sad really, its a good game hampered by incompetent devs. i know you dont get payed for it, but as it is, being this half assed, wether you get money for it or not, is not up to scratch.

either that or ill work on figuring out how to steal someones account, as the devs wont do anything about it even if it is against the rules.

Second, whining and calling the devs incompetent is silly when you are not intelligent enough to realize you should not use the same name and password on everything. If I had personally known you from another game and was told you played this I would have logged into your account and changed the password too just to teach you not to use the same password and name (you raging would just be some more icing on the cake)
Finally, you calling the game half assed is just sad when I see no comments from you on this forum besides this thread, you want a game to not be "half assed" maybe you should have participated in the discussion to make it better. I wish you well on your hacking attempts but I am dubious as to the success of your chances (due to your apparent computer inexperience)
