I Wasn't aware that they shot on sight. Could someone help me and tell me if I did anything wrong?
I am still rather new, so the only reputation I have is a little with Vault City and a little with NCR, both positive. I was walking back from the NCR where I encountered a Unity patrol. They said "don't try anything funny" RIGHT as they fired their missile launchers at me. This is has never happened before. I didn't have a weapon equipped, and have never hit any members of the unity, not even by accident with burst fire from my tommy gun.
The only thing I can think of was I happened upon some of them fighting another player. He killed them, I just put my gun away and ran before I got shot by him or the unity and they ignored me in that encounter. could that have been it?
Or do they actually shoot on sight or fire at random?
-
Welcome to the world of FOnline where exploits are fixed the way you seen. What you've experienced was standing within the forbidden zone of the Unity patrol. Its purpose is to eliminate thieves who try to steal from Unity, BoS or Enclave. Next time just stand more than 5 hexes away from them and you'll be ok.
-
Ahhhh ok. Just wanted to be sure is all. I have 8 perception and cautious nature, so I shouldn't have been spawned in the safe zone anyway, but oh well.. Only lost my armour and a sawn off shotgun.
-
Yeah no matter your Perception and bonus perks there is always a Slim chance you will spawn on top of a group, and almost all of the groups with good stuff don't like that. Like it was stated above if it can be exploited or abused, it will be, and then sometime later people have to figure out how to fix it.
-
Probably if NPCs are not going to be hostile you should always spawn at some distance from them.
Encounter code is quite a mess though, wouldn't hope for any quick fixes here.
-
Fair enough. Just wanted to get it cleared up so I know to avoid them as much as possible.
I tend to blunder into things often.. got too close to a door I wasn't allowed to, walked up to someone with my hammer equipped after mining.. death seems to be the main method of teaching me so far.
-

Don't let it get to you.The first few months are always tough.
It's all about finding your niche.
-
Getting killed doesn't bother me. I'm only wearing lather armour and use combat shotguns or tommy guns, which I can easily re-make, or trade in ammunition for with the NPCs.
pickpockets are pissing me off, though, but that just taught me to hold my good stuff in my hands before I trade it, leaving them with a handful of fruit or a shit-covered spade to steal.
-
Avoiding the towns where the pickpocket noobs hang out also helps. But yeah basically go with everything is gonna kill you, stay as far away as you can, and sadly trust just about no one and you slowly get to find the little good mixed in with the bad. You shouldn't have to worry too much about spawning on Unity or what not, I've only had it happen a handful of times, the trick is watch your loading screen and be ready to run like hell. BTW they used to I'm not sure if they do now haven't checked but any encounters with 'Merchants' Don't like you having your weapon out when you're in the same area as them, they usually yell, but sometimes just come out blazing.
-
Aha, hello Stahl
Met you few hours ago, you was blue suite with tommy gun.
I managed to kill all Unity patrols, but when i yell at you take the loot you was not there anymore
next time go with me ;D
-
I'd have helped out but a few .45 rounds wouldn't stop a super mutant and I've just have pissed them off and got turned into paste, lol.
Also I had a backpack full of golden gecko skins I didn't want to lose.
-
Hey man, hire some unarmed muties (50 caps each), they kill gecko fast
-
Not sure if my charisma is high enough for followers. Got on brahmin and that seems to be the highest amount, unless there are different values for mercenaries etc.
-
got ONE brahmin. ONE. Sorry. left out the e
-
Yeah, just went there as a level 11 character with 100 caps for two unarmed mutants. Got a comment about "scrawny ass" and they wouldn't sell me any.
-
Party point is for owning follower and CH is for leading them on world map
~pp show how many party points you have
70 for mutie, you could take beer for tempoary raising pp
Brahmin does not need pp
with 3 Ch you may lead 2 critters on wm
-
Bugger. Looks like I need a higher speech skill then
-
yes, create a new char dedicated for this is not bad

Oh, I just checked my unity reputation. for some reason, it's -900
I have never killed a single unity member. Did it drop because I was near them when they were killed or something?
-
Did you join Vault City faction? If so, it's no wonder that they hate you. ;)
-
Not joined any factions yet. Sold the mordino's case of jet so THEY hate me, but..
For some odd reason the vault city courtyard really like me. I only sold some fruit to them.
How much do those guys like fruit?
-
I'm pretty sure, though not positive, that quest makes you join the Mordinos or something. They only say "don't try anything funny" when you are Hated. Joining an NPC factions sounds like the only explanation for your sudden low reputation.
Type the command "~factioninfo" into your client to see what faction you are a part of. If you aren't a part of any, I don't know, you probably have nothing to worry about except reputation. Also, the bad reputation will go back down to Neutral after a few days or a week or two at most. Until you reach Neutral reputation, Unity will attack you in encounters, and no, it was not because you got too close to them; that doesn't make rep drop.
-
Oh, I didn't actually do the quest. I sold the case to Jimmy J so they all hate me now. Which doesn't bother me. Every time I go to new reno I get some lowlife try to attack me.
I'll have a look with that command. It's quite confusing really.
-
I still don't like the change. The previous system worked already. You had to be really quick skill wise and to be a thief skill-point wise, gave thief characters an actual gameplay value, but now instead they are only good for trolling in towns on players.

bad reputation of BH?

bad reputation of BH?
sounds more like, they don't like weak people. either a strength or endurance defeciency.
Take buffout.
-
as abe said that "don't try anything funny" phrase is only said when something wrong with reputation or probably u belong to rival npc faction.so u must investigate further this matter.

Yeah except no npc works like that. I have a 1 str 2 end char that buys muties all the time. If merc vendor can't sell to you due to full party or PP he calls you ugly or weak depending on the npc.

actually ms kitty in new reno does.

she isn't a merc vendor and that's a leftover from fallout 2.

Thanks for that out of context response, do you do this purely to up your post count or is this some failed attempt at communication?

I proved you wrong, simple.

Miss kitty doesn't have a check for str, if you fail cha and have 10 end or agi(i forget) she makes a comment about it. You've never been right about anything.
-
You talking some bullshit again?

The larger principle, npc refuses something to you because of stats, it is relevant what kind of and how much, there are plenty npc's which work in that kind of fashion.
-

What is a "merc vendor" ?
Your english is so bad i can't understand anything.

His English isn't bad,yours is.
A "merc vendor" is a person that sells mercs (NPC followers).Kind of why it's called a MERC vendor.
-
Never have hear "vendor" , it's a mercs merchant who sell mercs it's all.

Yeah, I'm the one who can't speak English. ::)

Not been reading this because I've been away for a week, but about the miss kitty thing or ms kitty or whatever..
I had to talk to her for that new reno jet selling quest. I had 3 charisma and 10 agility.
I think she called me a freak, or vomited when she saw me or something, and the game said "maybe 10 agility wasn't worth it"
made me laugh, but I sold the jet to Jimmy J. and now they hate me.
Doesn't bother me to be honest. I bloody hate new reno. I keep getting sneak-killed by grenades when I am there. Next time I am shooting on sight.
-
Reno is something like a PvP arena.when there is not town control there is reno.so don't go there without some back up
-
I really want to run around new reno with armed dynamite in my pants set for 1:00 detonation.
-
When you got killed just after mining because you closed in on people with your hammer ...If that was in Broken Hills and if the guy who shot you was Paganis holding a minigun... sorry, I was protecting a group of uncoordinated noobs, that makes one get jumpy.
-
Nope. I've never been attacked for mining. had shit stolen plenty of times in mines, and I never run at people with weapons drawn unless I am going to attack someone.
I think I did see you just blow a thief away in NCR though. Nice work. I went back there with just a pipe rifle in my pack incase he tried to steal from me again. He did. Then you scared him off. well... turned him into gravy. I think it was you, anyway, that name sounds familiar.
-
i also experienced many times getting killed by BoS. They follow some raider or dog, shouting "keep ur distance, dont come any closer" and then they just shoot me. Solution i found out is quickly fire the creep who is running after me, but sometimes i had no choice and got rockets like Jorhan Stahl
-
I've noticed having slot 1 empty and slot 2 with a weapon in it helps with getting shot instantly. just swapping to a weapon when I encounter something without passing an outdoorsman check.
still, every now and then the game just shits on me and plonks me right down next to a full unity patrol with miniguns and rockets, but lately I've been able to outrun them without getting too badly damaged.
