Title: Nickname connected with forum name.
Post by: Tomowolf on January 15, 2013, 10:22:21 pm
As this session brought many "funny guys" which taken someone's nickname's for teh lulz, it could be repaired by "creating" a character before session is coming to an end by forum or by game client, which registers data for future.
Dunno how it would look in script, I'am not much into this, but this might be usable for another session.
Please leave a comment or improve my suggestion.

This would be even better if next session will be one character only, which i hope it will.

One character? That would would mean remove professions, remove pvp, remove crafting, remove personal bases, etc.. I dont like it...

well there is no real way to tell if its an alt or not. That's what proxy clients are for.

Tomo, very good idea. +1 to tie character names to forum account.

i like the idea very much at least if you can recognize players on forums and in game just by nick. Very useful feature, but iam not sure how this will prevent multiaccounting.

It will cut it down immensely I'd think.

Not if those accounts are monitored by forum moderators.... But either way, a forum name will gain reputation just as in game names would. Having them linked would stop a lot of needless robberies.

As if this hasn't been suggested before.

It won't work.

That what I also meant how it would work - gain/or lose reputation by being active on forum as in game also.

As if this hasn't been suggested before.

It won't work.
What do you mean by that?

I like this, have 10 chars on a woldmap sucks.

Can't be used for enforcing one char per player, players would just make forum alts.

It would probably prevent nick thefts, but it wouldn't help against using similiar nicks like T0mowolf Tomo.Wolf and TomowoIf similiar things at all... I think it would be too much work for such little outcome.

All what you said is correct, but if there were certain character slots reserved for each player(forum account), then the owner could show to others :"Here, these char names represent me and you shouldnt be dealing with other, similar names".
Also it might remove some degree of needless anonymity.

I'd like it just so people would get to know each other instead of hiding behind anonymous alts. For such a small community we barely know each other.

It's hard to get to know people in game.. I agree...

However the few dedicated people this game does have, I think it's fair to say we get our personalities across in this harsh forum.

But I agree, I feel like in this game where our reputation is EVERYTHING, we should be trying to make a fool-proof way to give ourselves identities without fearing someone is wearing a mask.

And?
Still your nickname with Michaelh139 will be only for that forum account, problem solved, before it started (Simple : If you got already forum account, it will ask you if you want same nickname in game or not.)

Or perhaps the only way to create a character would be through the forum... when you make an account you also make a character, then it gets put in the game. Make the stats hidden to other players if chosen.

As good of intentions it may be, there will be those who will abuse it.
It wouldn't be worth it.

How could less anonymity be more abusable?

In my opinion, the more of a hassle people have to go through to get their characters up and running, the better..

The MORE attached we can get people to their in game characters, the better.
