Title: Stop this madness with SE hunting
Post by: Mike Crosser on January 10, 2013, 01:46:37 pm
Lately people have been asking more and more about special encounters.
Get this into your head, there is no way to increase or decrease your chance of getting one.
There is no magical perk,GMs don't give them out, there is no super encounter finding build with 10lk and 10pe.There is no area tied to the encounter.
Stop wasting your time. The developers already said it's completely random, only real life luck is involved.

Also i dont know why people need police car . Only one SE is usefull (bunker with gauss pistol and gatling).

PS: you can change texture on normal cars which are already in the game

as their name says, they are RANDOM. random means there is nothing you can do to increase chance of finding it because it's 100% random. thats what i think about them and i dont know why so many people dont understand this.

Except it can't be 100% random when Howitzer and Bomb Shelter seem to appear only on certain areas of the map. If you don't visit those areas, you won't find your SE's.

Nobody ever though that each Special Encounter can have own group of settings? :(

How do I put this clear enough.
They ---->USED TO<---- (meaning:an activity that was often repeated in the past but isn't happening anymore in the present) appear in certain areas. It was changed with one of the last updates.
Now they are truly RANDOM.

wrong! i have found gauss at molerats (38:14), near from BH (dont remember zone), at raiders (37:31) and on some other places. most of them is right side of map.

It's funny how people make patterns based on severely limited data. And Mike Crosser is right, except a dev said that you wouldn't find a desert-type special encounter in a city tile, and vice versa.

Fine,if it's confirmed by a developer,I'll belive it.

Okay sorry I was about to edit my post but you replied too quickly.

A dev didn't actually say exactly that, rather "it doesn't take much thinking to realize that some encounters simply don't fit on some tiles if you just look at the encounter maps and how they look like".

But I don't think that could mean anything else except city vs. desert encounters. Sorry if I caused more confusion. ;p

try reading the changelogs

Pretty sure I'm up to date on changelogs, please source your information... you coming here to say "the information is out there" but not helping to find it, is being completely useless.

Dude ... you assume I have farmed gausses... I say I don't... you ask me my point.. MY POINT WAS TO COUNTER WHAT YOU ASSUMED.

Are you really going to bring it down to idiotic unrelated arguments? Why do you care if you have nothing confirmed to reply with? Unless you have something to offer the discussion, sit down and shut up.

Someone asks a question, why would you respond with ANYTHING other than what helps that person better understand the answer to their question?

What devs word do you have? No Dev has spoken in any of these threads to confirm or deny anything far as I've seen.

I never wrote that YOU were farming gausses.

I'd love to go quote hunting but that takes time and effort, neither of which i'd like to spend.
Just go through some changelogs and other se threads and you'll find it.

Ok,I've gotten bored of this discussion.

That's what the devs want you to believe.
You can have it.
The new mechanics work the same way as Wire's "random encounters", which mean the encounter is tailored to a character nick, which means the special encounters are distributed by GMs and not by some mysterious mechanics, which don't exist.
The encounters are placed by GMs hand in places which are supposed to be visited by these type of players. When someone post about it on forums, the coordinates are changed - something i can guarantee.

Because Jovanka in my opinion will choose a simple, GM-driven solution, because arrogance won't let leave this glee for some kind of mechanics, ergo, mechanics which doesn't need to be developed.

IPs of connected players are bound to logged IPs on forum and since the most players are lazy to change IP between bitchposting and playing, the not-favorable profiles can be excluded from the encounter list.

So getting such a special encounter is possible if you are favoured by GM/developer buddy or a "random-noob-getting-special-encounter-just-to-prove-that-are-all-equal." Or when someone is drunk and want to throw some godpowers around.

Something to roll around the ol' noggin.

Yes,this explains why I never gotten a single special encounter.
It's because the GMs don't like me!

It's a conspiracy I tell yee!

I've spent hours in ncr without getting a special encounter, clearly gm abuse
