Here's a simple suggestion to make barter a little more newbie-friendly; for each trader add the dialogue option "So what do you buy?" which will provide a list of all the items they give trade-in value for.
To keep things simple and still a little mysterious, prices don't have to be listed. Players will know them once they bring the item in. The point is to keep newbies from raging when they find out that their leather jackets are worthless in most places and to help train them in the economic realities so they won't waste their time farming stupid stuff.
Another plus for having public want lists is that players will better be able to make suggestions on what some of the pickier merchants will take in trade. For example, perhaps the two shops at the front of San Fran should take more upper level weapons. I doubt anybody knows the full scope of items accepted in-game, but with this knowledge barter can be more properly balanced vs. farming and the dynamics of plenty/scarcity.

Sounds good. It really doesn't make sense that the only place to find the info is the wiki for things like this. A simple dialogue option like that sounds like it would do well.

Agreed, some people play for the immersion, and would rather get the info from in the game... I HATE visiting the wiki for things a game should have inside.
