increase level requirement for companions.
maybe you should have level 15 or more to take a companion.
-
Why do you think it's necessary?
-
because there are level 1 alts that take them? and it's almost impossible to take them because of that because people relog to companion alts? and because they are free to get there should be a balance?
-
Jovanka, you forgot the :3 face. Just kidding heheh.. But anyways, what would be the point of that? Is it just so NCR idlers (like myself) can't run and grab the companion as soon as they spawn?
-
And they are not allowed to have them? Bad ncr idlers. Nerf them. Maby make script auto death when u stay more than 15min at same hex in ncr :)
-
Then there would be leveled companion alts.
Giving everyone who wants a companion equal and good chances to get them is the only way here. It's not reasonable that player has to wait in a location for hours to get one. If we had more players, the less companions we would see.
The rareness of companions is one reason nobody really knows what they are good for.

Maybe have companions be set to the lvl of whoever finds them

This is a much better suggestion +1

give them good stats first of all. If I had to be lvl 15 to get one and its a bger with 1 str I would be pretty pissed. give them proper stats not this stupid shit like snipers with 1 pe and bgers with 1str and 1 en.

IMO we should have a contest to make builds for mercs and have the top 3 builds for each class randomly assigned when the merc spawn. So lets say you find a bg guy, he will have a randomly selected prefab build and his lvl will match your own. Same goes with sg and throwing. You also shouldn't have to tell them every time they respawn to show up at your tent, they should respawn every time they die unless their loyalty is at 0 with a way of easily checking their %, possibly info in pipboy.

Would be actually interesting that after every level you could tell the merc how to improve itself.
You get options for every skill the merc can use and an order to raise them.
After every 3 levels you could have a limited choice of perks like toughness, lifegivers, crits, action boys.

You know damn well why anyone would suggest this. Why ask?

Companions should just have fixed SPECIALS depending on their weapon specialization.
Maybe CH could boost companions upon recruitment, but fighting for hours for 1PE thrower companions against stupid roleplayer bluesuits who will just lose them in 5 minutes for not having a tent is just beyond question.
Or maybe make companions kill everything inside a city that is lower than level 18, those idlers who do nothing but trash companions all day need to suffer.

No idea what players are asking, they want power-build stats for completely free Npc's?

Well, they aren't completely free, you have to level them yourself and feed them approx 10 times a day (well mercs have to be payed too, but there aren't many people that wouldn't buy mercs right before the fight). But yeah, i am not sure if they should be transformable into powerbuilds with perks, maybe if the perks would be chosen more or less randomly it could work...

Gimme back my level 14 (According to wipe) companion with 267 HP that was lost to some bug.
best companion with max laser rifle range and aimed and good criticals

Well avoiding the ability to go to the local mall and build-a-merc, perhaps just some better filters on the stats they can have when they spawn, something so you don't get the BG companion who's blind as a bat and can't even carry a leather jacket. Without alt limits there will still be noobs taking them all, and I really don't like the level requirement idea, well at least not as high as 15, the 1 companion I have I got so that I could have someone with me while leveling, not after I leveled. I wouldn't mind being able to give them perks especially if you set it with the requirements just like ours so if they don't have the stat or score they can't get the perk, I mean if they start with basic skills of say 65% in their mains, and only go up 5% a level (if you don't allow players to allocate points) you're not gonna end up with many uber builds.
It's a tough thing to work out though, and it's only made worse because unless you make it so useless to players, people will just do what they do and take them all to camp them in a hotel room.
