Let me have my little rant here >:(
I was doing really well. Yeah, I managed to travel all the way down from Vault City to many cities in the south. Shoveled a lot of shit, made a few quest from the wiki, helped out some newbies, collected stuff. I even had a nice Desert Eagle with some ammo and a lether jacket. Just made my little visit at the merchant in Junktown and wanted to head south to the Hub. So to put it simple; I had a lot of fun with the ~3 hours I spent and I was just about to go happily sleeping after that.
But then:
Random encounter with a police patrol, scorpions and some brahmins.
Everything's killing each other, but the police patrol has won the battle, of course. Yay Brahmin hides I thought!
While collecting the second hide, which was laying close to a police guy, he simply gave me a smg burst in my head... cool!
A bluesuit joined the scene. While trying to loot my body they did the same to him.
And to quote his last words: "...this sucks!..."
I know, the wasteland is harsh. But this was simply and purely unrealistic.
Or can someone explain me why those cops act like fucking raiders?
And how am I supposed to know, that they get pissed off by looting the brahmins in the first place?
-
they don't care if you loot the brahmin. you got to close to the patrol.
the blue suit got killed i assume for looting you..
-
At least you got to keep your level, name, and your caps if you opened a bank account.
-
Welcome to wasteland.
Prepare to lose you items about 1 million times :P

This seems to be the case.It doesnt matter what caravan it is dont get close. Samw goes for holy people.( well you can go up to them, but they attack you when you disturb them).
-
Same with me - killed while looting hides in front of Hub guard on the desert. Seems that these guards need hides for their tents too :>
-
It might only happen if you have a weapon out because i was able to approach a few caravans with a holstered gun.
-
Well, it should be fixed. Or why not just make them say things like "Get lost!" or "Holster your weapon!" first, so you know what to do.
I don't have anything about getting killed and losing all my stuff. But it was just so unpredictable.
I will try my luck again today. But it seems that I really have to join a fraction.
Is there any German speaking fraction btw?

Which sucks. It happens quite alot when THEY move to close to YOU, and shoot you for it. I mean...WTF
-
it has happened to me before the wipe! Neutral NPCs will shoot you if try to loot what they have killed...
Also don't come close to them with your gun!
-
i've been killed in TB before the wipe by patrols.
thing was i spawned in someone's encounter, in the middle of a patrol.
i appeared in the middle of sequence and the guard yelled at me to not come any closer.
then his turn passed and the next guard started shooting at me.
i never got a chance to holster my weapon.
yep, i died due to the whole patrol firing at me..
-
I heard someone say they were fighting in TB and a patrol guy got close to them while chasing something. They said "Go away" and killed him because he was standing next to the patrol for too long. And in TB he didn't even get a turn to react. Fun things.
Why are they aggressive anyway? To prevent stealing?
-
yup exatctly, to prevent you from atacking caravans...
-
It is to prevent easy caravan group (every bigger group in general-- the ones with good weapons, because no other groups get the attention) farming, which has been done way too hard in the past.

Ok, I get it now.
Well, it would have better if I had known that before those bullets went right through my head hehe.
And it would also be great to write dangerous things like that in the wiki too.
But I made a great progress today and had lots of fun again.
I even have got my very own tent now and met a lot nice players (& many female players! :o).
-
and you believe they are female...? :P
welocme to the Postapocalyptia!
-
and you believe they are female...?
Maybe they are someone's girlfriends and wifes, lured here by boyfriends/husbands to mine the rocks. Or there was some serious PK-flood in Hello Kitty Online, and females don't like it anymore :>
-
i just don't see luring my girl into FOnline... however your theory abou HKO souns good Boss
-
Stop calling me "boss". I hate it.

How does it work? I thought farming a caravan would be basically running up close to them and bursting, so it's not really much different with or without the proximity aggro...
