Title: Replace default bluesuit skin with Loser/Whore skin
Post by: Roachor on October 15, 2012, 08:22:33 pm: I think we should replace bluesuits with loser skin because it will properly shame people into getting armour and show them for the poverty stricken parasites we all know them to be. Bluesuits clash with the rest of the game, we aren't supposed to all be from a vault. It would also force players to get some form of gear in order to use anything other than throwing/unarmed, I suggest making robes craftable using fibers to allow low level access to weapons.

Ok so pick one of the civilian skins that has running animation, or hell make everyone wear robes.

Exactly.

If that's still a problem then just pick one of the random civ skins... Hell... I know people suggest all the time but buying skins should be implemented, would go easy with haircuts too.

short hair: standard tribal > leather armor standard > xxx standard > xxx standard...

There's the solution, replace every single bluesuit for tribal skins, weapon animations be damned, if you can get a minigun then you can get a leather jacket.

And then everyone lived happy forever, the fack.

I too think vault suits as default clothes don't fit very much and personally suggested using Leather Jacket graphics instead (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,11730.msg96772.html#msg96772). However, Brujah is right that a player who is able to get a minigun or a laser rifle is also able to get his hands on some jacket...

Anyway I supposed the vault suit will only be changed one 3d models are ready.

While this tutorial is very informative, i developed my own workflow in Photoshop.
I found out that making strokes with a eraser is simpler and faster than marking elements with lasso tool and copypasting it.

It does mean: using 2 shortcuts, one precise stroke with mouse, two rough ones, one custom shortcut for indexing image, tapping enter twice, one shortcut for saving, tapping enter, closing shortcut.
Making 10 seconds for a single frame.

Ctrl+o, open a file. (batchrename a set of BMPs to same name with small addition to it, so you can put the edit in the same directory as the to-be edited files. This way you save the switching between directories.)

Ctrl+o: open second file.
Ctrl+a,c,w,v,zero: select all, copy it, close file, paste, make image fullscreen in one action.

Erase everything you dont want on the upper layer.

Index the image with image/mode/index colours. (make a shortcut with edit/edit shortcuts (very down in menu)).

Tap Enter twice.
Ctrl+s, ctrl+w: save picture, close file.

Rinse and repeat.

It would be interesting to automate slicing colour ranges into separate layers. That would allow to recolour hair and clothes with a single click. :)

I was thinking... Do the metal armor frames have similar size as the bluesuit ones?
Because if the brown pants can be cut out automatically using colour range detector and pasted as separate, editable layers onto bluesuit, we can have play with colour curves of both layers and create a wide variety of colours for shirt and pants "subsets"

Could be a nice solution for this problem if we could somehow choose our standard armor skin.

Not sure if I understand this reasoning...

1. What defines an old player? Is it a player who is old, a player who's been playing fonline from the beginning or a player who has played fallout 1 and 2 back in the day?
2. What would stop old players (regardless of the definition) coming back if bluesuits are less common?
3. Why would we care if old players come back? They're not here now, are they? They're not playing, not contributing (presumably) and thus they are owed nothing.
4. Are you the official spokesperson of "old players", to inform us of their wishes until their omnious return?

Back to topic: I would like to see this implemented. Even if you ignore the logical malfunction of 7000 people (how many alts have been created this session?) originating from or with ancestors from a vault: bluesuits sightings might be the reason why so many people complain around here. Everyone feels blue.
