Pretty much you sit at a bar and wait for a companion to show up, and when he does it's a BG with 2 PE and 3 ST or an EW with 5 AP and 3 PE.
Either make their stats fixed depending on their combat specialties or increase their spawn, waiting hours for a companion that I will throw away right after testing is fucking pathetic.
-
they are companions not mercenaries
-
That does not mean they have to be pieces of shit. You wouldn't "recruit" any noob in NCR with such messed up stats, so why should we take fucked up companion?
-
Nobody force You to take them,

If he's cool and we have a good time, why not?

Well, I wouldn't expect half-blind guy train into firearms. Same for weak guy using big guns, just does not make any sense.
I think the whole code should generate some stats, that's ok, but chose perks and skills from those results, not making another bunch of random choices that does not make much sense.

Perhaps some of companions are veterans and they have the best days behind them.

a very rp way to look at it. ;).
but yes i like that their stats are random, allows for more variety which makes hunting for followers fun.
-
yea, some companions are worthless, like 87 HP that is melee, I mean really?
but some are just perfect, good ST, good PE, 5 HP per lvl. but others just suck, one hex a weak raider with M60 and misses the shot
or they just have like 5 AP :P

Maybe have set builds and randomize minor increase/decrease in stats for variation

Roleplay has nothing to do with this suggestion.
