Title: Your Combat Style
Post by: craig_christ11 on August 27, 2012, 04:56:17 am
Sure its been done before. But which do YOU use.

Real time, Turn based, Or the both option.

Feel free to post why, or the advantages.

real time. turn based taked forever to do anything. i can do twice as much in real time then i can in turn based. thou turn based does have its times when it is the better choice.

Real time. Because the combat time is 1/4 or less of turn based, also good for PvP.

I knew RT is the future from the very beginning i started to play this game, it's aggressive, fast, there's no time to think and you have to rely on split second decisions about positioning, focusing targets, managing action points => thinking further faster requires more practice and knowledge in general. I always have thought that real time is superior in a way to turn base, though turn base is slow-paced tactical chess, but chess at the same time is boring for me.

Real time. I don't remember when was my last fight in TB, but probably at least two sessions ago.

RT for brevity.

Sometimes TB allows for grouping enemies and keeping them in place for a strategic area weapon.

Both, depends on what I am doing. Obviously 90% of the PvP any more is real time. I farm in turn base, some farming I'll do real time depending on what I'm hunting.

I actually enjoy turn base as it gives back the good feal of playing fallout1/2.

Real Time

Turn Based!

Sometimes Real Time...

TB is my first love, because it's a relaxed way of killing things.
Sure, I could grind three times more encounters in RT, but I'm not in a hurry.

RT and TB are great, but I prefer RT because that's what helps in Town Control :D

Real time just because it helps keep the A.I. from taking two minutes to make a decision.

Also I forgot to ask: what does selecting "Both" in the options do? I never did try on either of my sessions.

RT you don't encounter TB

Both You play rt but can encounter both

rt is for faction pussies that really believe there own max hp bg DPS builds standing there blasting away at others till they run out of superstim packs is actually "tactical".  TB allows for use of cover and a wider variety of builds (not just tanks) to be viable.  TB is more relaxed and SF battles with walls can be very entertaining.  But unfortunately only rt is realistically compatible with TC.  But the more the devs favor pvp apes (they do kinda make the hardcore population) and cater to their game mechanic whims by nerfing crit burts, etc,. the more the odds are skewed into there playstyle.  Personally TB is better PvE with some exceptions (*cough* geckos in tb sucks, ghouls in tb sucks *cough*) and a good TB pvp battle where it doesn't just matter who shoots first (he who shoots first tends to shoot last) is hard to beat.  That's my opinion and you can print it!  BTW if they remove TB I wouldn't ever have played this game nor would I ever play it, now or in the future. TLA? is slow mo rt and sucks donkey dicks.

I have switched to RT, b4 that i always used TB.

Main reason is Encs like rats, TB shoud intiate if player is attacked or attacks, rather then it instantly entering TB.

I've got no style, I'm a professional. But yeah, RT is the way to go, TB shouldn't even be in the game.

a good TB pvp battle where it doesn't just matter who shoots first
Hmm. Just one question. Have you ever been in TB Caravan trap when they were supposed to be seen on map?

P.S. About types - voted for both.
TB - slow in time and easy, so can be perfect way for calm farming or playing 'chess' with another player.
RT - fast and deadly. Better thing for crowded PvP due to capability of shooting each other at the same time. Plus PvE can be better in RT owing to risk you take.

I like to play with both RT & TB.

I usually play in real time, for efficiency.
It would be endless to farm, pvp or travel on worldmap if everything was on turn-base.

But when you play with mates in pve, i think Turn-base is more entertaining. It allows you to care about every action of you mates and ennemies, to make fun of them, or congratulate their last move, to talk about random things etc...
It is even better if you play with people that aren't progamers. Their action are impredictable, refreshing.
While real time is about efficiency, Turn-base is more about enjoying the moment, every gestures for itself.

What's a caravan?  A legendary sighting, like Big Foot?  A trap is a trap, I'm talking about honest to goodness "encountering" others generally while farming.  I know it doesn't happen much at all any more, but last season was a very deffinant possiblility.  I'm not talking about section 8 (bless their little hearts) traps.

Turn-Based.

I always liked TB back in the original Fallouts and I don't mind waiting for my turn because I always do other stuff in the meantime.

Both, because then you can meet more people to kill and use as an emergency toilet.

I use both modes, mostly RT. But depends what character do I use.

Actually I just remembered a little trick I used back when I was still playing.
The speed of you running is equal to the speed of other NPCs and players running. However, if you are encumbered, you cannot run, so that gives you a disadvantage.
*~combatmode tb*
Now, encumbrance doesn't give any disadvantage while in turn based because the amount of AP you spend doesn't change and you can't run in TB anyway (not like it would make a blinding difference). Now as I've said it someone is gonna hurr durr, nerf unfairness.

Where are the bombers?
Or the guys who drop in with a pile of slaves/cheap ghoul merc - all with plasma grenades?

tb early on, while levaling up against npc's.
some of my first builds would have been kick ass, if i was playing the original game.
with the leval cap, they sucked donkey dick later.
havent levaled up a dude that i would go for rt.
yet.
still figuring out how this particular flavor of fallout works best.
my kingdom for a gauss rifle.
2mm ammo and power armor.
the game has problems, but if we all can shake down some change to those who make it happen....
it should only get better.

I use Realtime so I can run away faster, though if I actually plan on fighting anything I switch to TB because I'm so used to it.
