Title: More convenient combat log
Post by: Mrockatansky on August 26, 2012, 11:31:30 am
The logfile is now a wall of text you have to study closely if you want to reconstructure the last few moments of an PvE/PvP encounter.

For now its -simplified- like this
[critter/player][action][result]
 i want
[active critter/player] [action/event] [passive critter/player] [result]

Excluded everything relating the player. It should start with a 'You' its much easier to locate in the list that way.
Other players actions should start with that players name.
for example instead of:

*CritterA was hit for derp hitpoints
*CritterB was hit for hitpoints
*CritterA was hit for hitpoints and killed
*You have gained some ammount of xp
*somebody drugged you!
*you where hit for  hitpoints
*CritterA was hit for hitpoints and was killed
*walloftext

it would be of much interest  who did the damage to CritterA .
the bare information i have gained a certain ammount of xp and advanced a level, i can get by pressing C
which player drugged me with what? or was it a mate that stiched mah ? i cant tell from that log.
what critter didnt cause any damage? Implying to what type of attack am i maybe resistant?
( yeye inb4 do the  maths, read wiki. thats not the point here. there is always more than one aproach)

so my suggestion is have the combatmsg this way:

*You have gained bla XP from killing CritterA.
*Player2 was hit by Critter for hitpoints (and killed/ had his groin crippled).
*You hit CritterB for hitpoints and killed it (and got xp/advanced level).
*You where hit by Critter/Player for hitpoints.
*CritterC hit CritterB for hitpoints and killed it.

I support this idea, if it take consideration of :

- You shouldn't know who did it, if he is outside your range.
- Some information should be available, only for awareness characters.
- If you die, you shouldn't be able to get specific information, about your killer or what happen after.
(not alive, not aware)

I agree with naossano except one thing - you should know who killed. Just later you are not aware, not in the moment of death.
