The population is pretty low, don't you think? I mean, back two years ago we had about 200 players onto the game, now we've hit near 100, but like five hours later, it's 50 or 60. Maybe we should spread the game news about, see if anyone is willing to come over and give the game a try?

haha good joke , with all the good updates u wont see any new players , new players wanna have fun like in other games this one isnt fun at all its hard work and if u dont a hardcore gamer then u can forget to get rich or do some pvp lol , i think they are leaving when they see the first ac or unarmed troll whatever rofl

I agree, there's no reason this game cant have a good old 1000 player base,
people dont realize how many people there are on this planet, and the gaming population is growing at a rapid pace.
game just needs a little advertising
and maybe a little noob padding, ( for noobs lvl 1-7) / brand new players
and maybe a few more things to do other than than lame 50 Xp quests, and grinding :P
that doesnt mean it will be ruined for the hardcore gamers.
also I think once they implement 3d models the population will shoot up at least for a little bit,
personally i dont care, id rather they focus on gameplay, but thats just me, but its 2012 so people need their 3d fix I guess, even if its in an isometric universe.

O'rly? June 2010 (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,5964.0.html), something went terribly wrong.

Well I asked all my gamer-bros long time ago and everybody ragequited after dying to the typical reasons, PKs, lag, noobish try to fight too strong enemies AND then loosing all the stuff they earned in the last 30 minutes. I told them to build a tent and store their stuff, even gave them the hides, but according to them "going to tent all 5 min to store stuff is ghey".
What I think is
This game is playable by either: Fallout1&2-Lovers, "Hardcore"-Players who never ragequit, or random guys who tried the game and are actually having fun with it as it is.

I got a new computer when Diablo 3 came out, and I was just thinking about loading up again. As a hardcore fallout fan, I WANT to like this game, and there are many, many things I enjoy about it. One of the major dissuading factors is that PvP does not meet my player expectations. If I want to take this game to culmination and attempt to compete directly with other players I need to make many, many alts which don't correlate to my concept of what I would like my experience would be. If I run into another player in a town that is hostile I would like a life and death contest between those two characters, the victor gets to live, the loser is relegated to the wastes. As I see it now I must have between 3 and 7 blue suit specialists that reside in video game land rather than postapocolypto California. If I roll in to a town, and I don't have 2 or 3 alts outside waiting, then it is not even worth showing up. Even when the AC problem is solved and other exploits are sussed out, the lack of log in timer is a huge problem for me. I don't like waiting, but preserving the immersion of the environment is more important to me. I know this is a difficult problem to regulate, and I do not blame the development team for this, as I know they are working from a passion and doing their best. Fact of the matter, this is the major thing that has been keeping me away and if I didn't mention it in this tread I would not feel that I was living up to my responsibility to the community.
I suspect some folks will be tempted to respond with "log in timer is no good, folks just find a way around it anyway", to which I will respond in advance: A problem that is hard to fix is still a problem. It should be looked at in the eye and confronted, not ignored and labled "by design".
TL;DR: The lack of a log in timer kills immersion for me.
As always, in all honesty, thanks for your hard work devs. I know reading stuff like this on the forums can be hard to choke, even after all this time, but we only bring up stuff like this out of a genuine interest in what you have made for all of us.

Everyone in the forum has to meet up and have sex with each other and then maybe we can increase the server population after all the births. There is a serious male to female ratio imbalance but if you keep trying it will work eventually.

Atm the game isn't in that bad state, few trollfixes and we're pretty good. However pvp at competitive level is so hard that it takes months of farming before you can reach the same level as the current factions are. The ammount of farming needed to have what it takes is just so immense that it's not even funny anymore. I know a team of people who quit just because they didn't want to gather 1750 junk for scrapheap.

And that's all while dodging the bored pk noobs who run around with nothing better to do than hamper your game progress. This game is currently not for new players. Certain low level factors make it almost impossible for new people to really get a feel for how it might be near cap. Tack on the 4+alts needed if you don't join an already established gang that sucks even more fun out cause you're just doing the same thing over and over for days just to have a chance at getting the higher end stuff. For new people it really boils down to 4 not so pleasant choices.
1. Join a gang and get spoon fed the game, you'll get leveled fast and see the end game. Some players don't want to be handheld the whole way through.
2. Go it alone and gut it out. This has it's rewards but so many drawbacks, much of what Avv said applies here, especially just getting close to competing with established players.
3. Wander around aimlessly hoping for a good gaming experience. Which will almost instantly devolve into shit shoveling, and being trolled/greifed.
4. Don't play. Which judging by the sheer volume of players (sarcasm), is the path many chose.
-
There is also one extra option join nonPvP gang like SQ or some other crafters/roleplayers etc and enjoy early and mid game for long time.... then after u gona know and tasted enough u can join some PvP gang and have a taste of lategame.

The PvP events really seem like the best thing going for the lone wolf player, since you can test out builds without forming faction ties or having to replace equipment. If the devs pushed events and had some kind of predictable schedule it could be FOnline's star attraction.
-
You can test your character at Hinkley too. Of course you may be team killed if you try to test some certain types of characters or just meeting the wrong type of players. Anyway Hinkley is a fun place for some shooting or testing.

This is true but I'm involved with new players who want only pvp. The biggest issue is always that they have no gear or characters at all and would need like 3 pvp chars, support chars and carpets of stuff right away and ofc they don't want to farm all that. They come in for action and receive farming instead. Can't just share chars with new players so that's out of the question.

Because current system of mining/crafting/farming is piece of shit. In 2nd season people didnt have that problems. This game is playable only for veterans(guys who started in 2nd/3rd season ; ] )

True, when to much RPG comes to PvP (craft, bla bla shit) people who dont have loads of time, newbie feels like this game is harsh and they waste of time. We all love F1/F2 but as long as Devs will try do something similar, players will suffer. When was Golden Era of 2238? 2nd session... why? People dont waste time for pseudo rpg craft/cd etc.
But i just loud thinkin ;)
-
FR in combat doesn't help either, it's good enough that players aren't banned for dual logging doing simple things like adding characters to base, transporting alts to somewhere etc. etc.
Some simple CD on combat that would prevent re-logging for short time would allow all players use less alts while fighting and thus help new players fit in better. As far as i know it wouldn't even be complicated to implement that.
-
It may not be so easy I think. Though if any measurement against FR should come it should be something like when character is killed or combat timer is still then the player gets a 2 min CD for logging into a different character. (2 min is the usual time to rearm the character and come back to the fighting area)
On the note of no gear for new players in pvp. It maybe a valid choice to give them metal armor, miniguns and laser rifles those are relatively easy to get and ain't so bad. A group of 10 could gather tons of it quite fast. AP ammo maybe slower to get but still not so hard.

To the folks who keep saying who the game is for:
Doesn't that just devolve into convincing people NOT to tell others about the game? There is absolutely no reason for any gamer NOT to TRY a game as a result of the community of that said game, saying it's not for them. Let GAMERS try a game before you tell them it's not for them, in fact, DON'T even let yourself think you have the right to tell them whether or not they will enjoy. Your basis on other people's gaming habits is judged based on nothing except FOnline play and population status throughout the seasons.
Personally, if I play another game, and become sociable with some players, eventually I will ask if they have heard of, or would be interested in a Fallout Online game, which eventually leads to them downloading and trying it out, whether they stay or not should not be our concern. It SHOULD be the concern of the devs if they care about the population or not.
When it comes down to the population, if you, the player/community want to see a rise in our population, STOP NAYSAYING THE GAME!
Focus on positives when talking people up to Fonline. Admit to negatives when they come across them, but allow people to experience the game without the negative vibe. Some folks may genuinely come to ENJOY the game, and (I'm not sure exactly WHY) the community.
--------
Member of other gaming forums? Make a nice thread about the game. I do it all the time and sometimes get a few new players who actually take a liking to the game.
It just seems odd that people bitch and moan about population, yet most of the players are bitching and moaning about the game itself, do you folks not see the catch-22?

TL:DR -
You want more customers, stop shitting on your product.

CD was made 6x very recently.
Not so hard to make basic stuff/trade for good stuff.

That's true, but still developers keep introducing retarded "fixes" like this:
- Followers can no longer be assigned to characters during their logout time.
Dual log promoted, again and not for the last time I guess. Same with travelling on worldmap, you cannot give lead to your second character, because he is offline. This used to be extremely useful when you were for example transporting your crafter, repairman or whatever to one of your tents.

This game is like a giant unwashed stinky cunt and us players are like sores. Don't be a cunt sore.
-
THERE IS LESS PLAYERS ON THE SERVER, STOP YOUR BELLYACHING AND CRY BABYING DEAL WITH IT.
-
Less players maybe, but many more than a month or 2-3 ago.
I often see 100-200 population on prime hours these days.
Also, I'm having much more fun than any previous season (shame on me). Maybe because the 'pro' players are quitting/idling/spending more time on forum/waiting for some form of perfection that will never be possible?
Anyways, thanks for all the fish!

Solar is back = CDx6 xXDD coincidence?
