Title: Sending distress signals from tents and bases
Post by: Parowooz on March 16, 2010, 10:32:56 pm
Ok, tell me - why it's not possible to send distress signals from tents and bases?

To preventing alting and beaconing teambuddies to enemy bases, probably.

How is that wrong?

that should really be a viable tactic

Quite logical:

Example:

Enemy gets into your base, he distresses. Whole gang comes in and rapes everyone at the base. But they can keep coming for ever and make the base usseles. Since the beacon won't drop.

For tent: to protect from griefing.

make the beacon temporary? or maybe not, if you found an enemy base, i think you'd remember where it was

Because now a treacherous bastard manages to con you and join your gang, worst he can do is lead a small group into your base. If radio signals could be used inside a base, then the griefing possibilities are endless.
Imagine a 5 people small band getting betrayed by a sixth new member who invites his 40-people gang to just make your life miserable for the hell of it. They could wipe your base clean, keep even a temporary beacon on forever by just spamming /h every 5 minutes, bring 10 supermutants to your base entrance, and basically make your characters useless by denying you to use your terminal to resign from your faction. Right now it's enough that you kill the first group, kick the player, and kill the second group together with him. With a beacon even if you did they'll keep coming and coming. And won't even need the traitor to enter your base.

Bad idea. The game already has a lot of asshats who aren't satisfied with just playing, but want to spoil the game for everyone.

hmmm, add a cooldown for throwing beacons in the same square, and maybe check out new team mates more thuroughly? i think that adds an interesting concept to vetting new gang members

Since there is no way of telling who owns which account, you really can't 100% check if this person is not a spy. Or worse, won't get convinced by someone to "play a trick" on you.

It really is a bad idea. Bases will be findable anyway in the future, so for now simply stick to leading enemy gangs with your traitor char to somebody's base.

I can imagine bases with 2 or 3 areas. 1 area is free for everyone, 1 is only for members, (1 is for important members). So you could find the base (by some special proffesion and tracking...) but you will have acces only to public part. .. but it will have ot rework bases and i dont think that someone will do this, because more important things have not been reedited yet.

You can wall off sections with mercs.

But the AI sucks and it would be easy to clear a path.
