Well to get right to the point, I just want to say that the death system in this game is extremely frustrating. Not being able to get your belongings back is unheard of in almost all mmorpgs. I have died about 3 times and sucked it up and I realize you need to get a tent asap to horde your belongings. However, people want crazy amounts of money for brahmin hides and you RARELY ever find them yourself in the wild. So I find myself once again looking for flints to make primitive tools, then mining, getting wood, junk whatever which all takes a lot of play time to get back on your feet again if you have no tent. I also honestly think the 5-6 minute cooldowns are a bit high.
Anyways, I think the game is very frustrating and difficult in the beginning stages. This is something you don't want, especially for a community-run mmorpg. I understand it is a cruel world and open pvp, but when your scavenging for things and 2 guys in power armor with 2 mutants with rocket launchers blow you away talking russian, then it really makes you want to quit. So end rant and flame if you wish.
-
Expect many "the wasteland is harsh!" quotes. :-\
This is a game, where the ability to kill everything and everywhere is more important than fun, balance or atmosphere.
-
The only way to survive in the wastes is to have friends. If you don't have them then go make some. There are plenty of good guys out there that will team up with you.
-
Yeah, when I got my first tent, I got like one 8 lvl char, one 6 lvl char, one more 8 lvl char.
Also, I found that easier to craft laser rifles/plasma pistols/combat shotguns and bazookas, than build a tent. Because you'll encounter more players than brahmins at NW of NCR. And of couse everytime you getting 9th hide, on that encounter, while you standing near last brahmin's body, appearing a gang of maniacs with miniguns who shouting what they will do with you, and then you again starting hunt for brahmins, and again, and again. So yeah, all you need is a tent. Then the game will be really easy.
The only way to survive in the wastes is to have friends. If you don't have them then go make some. There are plenty of good guys out there that will team up with you.
Heh, I did everything myself ;p
I can't forget "Don't trust anyone" hint. Of couse now I know where I can join, may be, but I don't playing FOnline till wipe. Only testing something sometimes with newly created chars.
Anyway, when you get your tent, you'll find this game very easy.
-
a little ridiculously easy when it comes to harvesting npc equipment
-
Well, if it wouldn't be of the upcoming wipe, i'd help you. Right now i have completly no interest doing that as it will all dissapear in matter of days (i hope so). But, if youre still interested, might contact me after wipe. And besides, the hardcorness of FOnline is that, what imo attracts most players to this game
-
maybe if devs could make people that are lower than 3 level not giving stuff while dying... NEVERMIND!!! Wasteland is harsh, thats what they told me before too.
-
I find leveling up my character to level 21 is quite fun.
AlsoHowever, people want crazy amounts of money for brahmin hides and you RARELY ever find them yourself in the wild. So I find myself once again looking for flints to make primitive tools, then mining, getting wood, junk whatever which all takes a lot of play time to get back on your feet again if you have no tent.
Brahmins with low HP (30-35) can be found quite easily. Weak Brahmins (30 HP) can be found near Den, and 35-45 HP ones can be found all around NCR, mainly in my experiecne, 2 West, 1 North, and 1 South, 1 East of NCR.
NCR is also a great place to get started because there is regenerating flint to the West of the Main Inner-city Gate, and cut-able trees. Mining can be a pain, though. Outdoorsman really helps you avoid any "guys in power armor with 2 mutants with rocket launchers", too.
-
FOnline has quite a learning cure, but once you realise what it is youre looking for, and where to find it etc. the game becomes
alot easier. I found doing quest and using FLC religiously helps to get the ball rolling. Personally, I like the death system. ;D
-
the wasteland is harsh

too much of a learning learning cure..... this game needs some sort of a noob location

No pain, no game ;D
You expect real world is not cruel ?
I think high difficulty is that factor which attracts many bored players to this game ;)

If such a thing existed, i'd expect all the russians crowding up the place shooting up everyone, shouting XAXAXAXAXA and RAZDRIAT STIACHA PRATIVNIK.
Seriously. We used to have the "hell" area. I doubt you'd like that anny better
Oh and also:
>Rarely found any brahmin in the wild
No. Just no. Im tired of fighting those fuckers. I run into dozens of em per day. Just keep patrolling around NCR
-
Well this game is not for solo players thats for sure. Solo you mean nothing and you can do nothing. Not if you don't have week off and a lot of patience. I'm all for it to make game more solo-friendly. Not necessarily easier tho. But when remember OBT 2 then our wasteland is like flower-lover paradise compared to that kind of shit what has been happening back there ;).
-
making fonline more playerfriendly? Like i said 5 months ago when the game was more alive: disable full drop on death- let people have at least a descent % chance to keep 1st weapon and armor.(unless they attacked someone)
Old players will now flame me with: blah blah blah now player will have xxx weapons they don't use since they can use 1 gun for like a week if they play wisely.
My answer: ammount of weapons is the same, it's just with current gameplay all lost weapons usually go to dominating faction guild stashes to be never used again.
solution to both: make weapons unrepairable after some time(even with 300% repair) so eventually people will change their weapon once in a while due to weapon breaks, not everyday due to being ganked for no reason.(yes, it's far less frustrating)
I am aware that many people like Fonline the way it is. Open pvp with full drop and sht, but lets face it. This game is far away from giving fun to most players, especially new ones, leaving fonline with a CLOSED PLAYER COMMUNITY(join big faction or die)
This game has to become less frustrating and time consuming, but more fun and playerfriendly. I came back after nearly half year to see how fonline changed(since it was PvP, PvP, Die, Craft, Craft, Pvp, Die, Pvp, Pvp, Craft) but it didn't changed at all really.. If there are ANY roleplayers left in the 2238- please correct me :/
-
Im new to this but i agree its not very noob friendly. It is extremely difficult and if i was not a hardcore fallout fan i would give up and stop playing this game.
-
Can we not have a system where you only loose a percentage of your items and not them all or if you are holding or even wearing something you don’t loose it?
or better yet have shops that you can buy cow skin from…..
-
And besides, the hardcorness of FOnline is that, what imo attracts most players to this game
No, I submit to you, gentlemen, that this game is EASYMODE.
A hardcore Fallout MMORPG would have everyone in leather jackets, sawnoffs, magnums and molotovs. Any bullet, even the humble 9mm, would have a chance to kill you in one shot. A point blank shotgun blast to the face? That fancy green helmet ain't gonna save you, buddy. Nobody's HP would be in triple figures - you get assigned HP on character creation, and that's it.
Killing 500 floaters wouldn't mean you're somehow more durable - a skilled veteran, sure - but more durable? Hell no! This is ain't your fancy-pants 2238 with your ever increasing pile of HP. This is a manly game for manly men. If you don't like that, maybe you should go to Reno and pick up a pretty dress to wear to your Ladies' Gaining More Hitpoints Party. You're born into this world, and no amount of shooting rats is going to make you able to take more bullets, hippy.
What's that? You want to be able to take more hits because you spent more of your miserable life grinding centaurs? Tough luck, sonny. This isn't that World Of Warcraft game you people seem to know so much about. That level 1 fistfighter is going to hold your level 21 energy weapons sniper down and do terrible things to him. Enjoy.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Im a new player, i know very well fl world and game im a fan, so that helped me, but i dont find starting so hard, i make mi first step get killed built my tent after i found a good bramihn spot and now im a 13 lvl, no so frustrating or else, now some friend joined me i helped in the first step and even if they dont know the mechanic like me they managed to lvl up and make gear, so i dont think tha 2238 is so hard and frustrating....
sorry for my bad english :)
-
i played f1 and f2 a lot, and starting the game for me was easy and really interesting :> I miss those times when i gathered mm pistols and spiked knuckles for exp, i want wipe :D

If you want, you can try to play The Sims 3!!!11
Here link for free full ENG download (~5.5Gb): http://www.warezrocker.net/forum/games/54023-sims-3-collectors-edition-razor1911.html
I've played this game for 2 days (I mean full 2 days...) discovered almost everything this game can have, and I noticed that this is very very very boring. Why? Because everything is too good. Everyone happy, etc. What reason to play then? No challenge.
-
*makes fiendish smile and now he'll be happy for some hours*

fuck this game.... its a big pile of fucking shit
i know this mod will die

You may not realize this, but some people actually LIKE the game to be extremely hard (im one of them). So if you want to complain about it,go ahead.
...Damn casuals...

GODDAMN CASUALS, amirite?
As i said before, the hardness factor only adds to the fun you're having. There's nothing better than the mixture of inner rage and sadistic enjoyment you get when you die with a lot of expensive equipment on you.
It's cathartic, really...
-
ok i see this game is only for geeks with no life.... sorry for my rage earlier its just damn annoying when you collect 8 cow skins only to get killed by a random dude joining your encounter half way through.
also to get kill when you enter town by some dude with a rocket launcher. "admittedly this must be rare"
anyway i may come back to this game when the new development goes live but in the mean time im gonna spend my time doing something else.
i gave this game 4 days... you may say thats not enough but in 4 days i did not achieve shit...
I am sorry if i have offended anyone but i see this game has a small community that likes to keep to its self...

Welcome to hardcore MMORPGS. These guys think their game is the greatest, the most awesome, the most everything.
From what I saw, there's nothing but stupid senseless killing going on. This isn't the Wasteland, where you have to be untrustingly trustful of your fellow man or be ripped to shreds by many of the various critters around trying to eat people. This is, from what I saw of it, Unreal Tournament with a Fallout Skin on it.
Played, with a friend, for about an hour. We got lucky and someone (in exchange for my soul, I might add) gave me an Assault rifle, which made us be able to somewhat survive a few encounters with some nasty critters out in the wastes. However. we arrive, split up (I was going to shovel shit while she restocked on ammo for the Assault rifle given that I was CQC built) and not two minutes later I hear "FUCK THIS!"
Someone PK'd her. For no reason at all but for loot.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at some point, shouldn't such people be brought to justice BY THE GAME ITSELF?
After killing a certain number of people, shouldn't a person become infamous in a town and be opened up on by EVERYTHING in that town on sight? Shouldn't that person have to run to another town and never return?
Wait....that's LOGICAL. Instead we've got people who will sit in the areas where new players spawn, then kill them the SECOND they look like they've accomplished something with themselves.
This game is horrible for new players, for one reason and one reason only, there's more of the "KILL THE NEW GUY! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!" players than there are the, "Well.... let's see if we can't help this guy out :)" variety. That's a problem that could be solved by removing loss of items after being PvPed, removing full drop of items and reducing it to what the person was wearing (or nothing at all), or by the community of this game not acting like a bunch of seven year old kids off their prescriptions.
/rant.
-
At first, let say I am one of the damn casuals, Pluto.
And you will be a "good boy" to keep this kids argue in your pocket. Thx by advance :)
As it was said before, the 2238 is not so "difficult" even at begin.
But it is the major feel mostly because people try to do all by themself.
Hunting the 10 hides without the minimum skill to do that safe is not the good way, for sure.
But you can buy it easly from other player at NRC. Other players are not here only to be killed or to kill you.
There are other type of interaction... Here is the major potential of FO, for me at least.
For sure, there are a lot of BlueSuit hunters. But they dont kill Blue to loot their poor stuff, you can be sure about that.
That said, people seems forget that they have the Right to be constructive when they participate to a Beta.
-
...Played, with a friend, for about an hour...
Just don't go to unguarded city with assault rifle and bluesuit, also shouting "Hello! I'm alone with items, and also I'm noob blue suiter! Please, kill me and get all my loot!".
Unguarded cities here it's... not a cities, it's just an arena with buildings, there're only two things you can do: PvP and Quests (if any).
Also not everyone killing bluesuiters, when I've started to play this game first time I spawned at Den. I was so happy to see a player!!! Because I played fallout1/2 last time like 5-6 years ago, and I've never though that there will be online version. So, he gave me deagle with some .45 mag, and then I saw second player! And no, he didn't kill me! But I died at first encounter... met pack of raiders... and on thier first turn they blow my head. Anyway, not everyone are bluesuitniacs. I never attack anyone with no reason (reason is I know he is a PK, or he attacked me first, or he has name like "KILL_ALL", "DEATH" + wielding a weapon and has like 150-200 HP etc.). Also if someone has died in NCR by my suicidal explosion, it was an accident, my aim was a PK. And also, if I have any looted NPCs items, I happily drop it all at Hub/NCR, so bluesuiters (and not only they) can pick it up to sell for any caps or, even, use.
Hunting the 10 hides without the minimum skill to do that safe is not the good way, for sure.
Yeah... hunting brahmins near NCR sometimes looks like suicide. When I doing that (with high outdoorsman) I only see messages "do I want to encouner" like this: "You encountered: Brahmins, <ANY> caravan, RAPE_YOUR_***" or something like this, also when I hunting on lonely encountered brahmins, in bluesuit and plasma pistol, I very often can see other players appearing on encounter, but most of them in bluesuits too, or with low tier weapon. But sometimes you can see gang in metal armors and bazookas/miniguns, so hunting there isn't good idea.
also to get kill when you enter town by some dude with a rocket launcher. "admittedly this must be rare"
The silly thing in this game is... you can craft rocketlaunchers on 1st level BG profession... and then you're able to kill people in wrong time in wrong place.
-
People just give up too easily.
Here is what you need to do to have a basic thing like a tent:
- have 40% science, OR
- have 30% (? I don't remember exact value but sth like 30 or 40) repair, OR
- have 40% outdoorsman
If you picked science, then find a player in NCR who will be interested in buying ore/minerals/metal parts from you. Then make yourself a sledge and mine it. Then sell it for caps, deposit them in a bank (new account - only $100 wtf). You have enough to buy some hides, buy them and go make a tent.
If you have enough repair skill, just stand next to fuckin junk barrel. Gather it. And sell it. Also there is no option for someone to steal it from you because you can keep it in your hands. You can die only from a bombing (which can be avoided if you use common sense) or if someone kills you (but seriously, who would care, and still you can deposit caps in the bank and sell junk every now and again).
If you have enough outdoorsman, make a knife to gather fibers or just gather fruits. Got enough? sell-> deposit money -> when you got enough, go buy hides.
If you think you don't have any of science/repair/outdoorsman skill high enough, just shovel shit x100 to get 2nd level and there you go.
But no, people keep killing cows to get their hides, they're getting killed by bored PKs looking for them near NCR, then they try again and again and then ragequit. It's insane.
From what I saw, there's nothing but stupid senseless killing going on. This isn't the Wasteland, where you have to be untrustingly trustful of your fellow man or be ripped to shreds by many of the various critters around trying to eat people. Well, I hate to say this, but it's mostly true.
-
This game is like hitting a brick wall with a sick… just when you think your starting to make a dint your sick breaks.
-
Kilgore I see what you're saying. But there seems to be only 2 ways out to get started: shovel shit or go craft. Both which are extremely boring and time consuming. We need more newbie quests (or just many more quests in general). It seems like everyone is put on the same racetrack going around in circles. You can't go off that "mainstream" path that is so prominent in this game. Ah well, the game needs much more content and if there's not enough developers for it, then maybe they should have never started the project. Get more devs or work more hours. I'd be happy to donate 20 bucks a month for this if it gets better. But it needs much work.
-
Get more devs or work more hours.
I will think about it, as soon as you give me 20 bucks a hour.
As alternative for this, we could also simply shut down the server and stop the work. It would be almost the same as if we never started.
-

Corrupted developer.
As alternative for this, we could also simply shut down the server and stop the work. It would be almost the same as if we never started.
You don't want to, because you could do it before.
-
Keep in mind, that this is still a hobby project. We are not paid for what we are doing and all the donations we get from the players, are going only to the server and not to us. I find it a bit "pretentious" to say, that we have to spend more work on it or stop the game, as if we are employees and get a regular paycheck.
-

I said 20 bucks a month, not an hour, which is 5 dollars more a month then most very popular mmorpgs. I think it's pretty generous. But I'd do it along with several other people.
Go ahead and shut down the server. You wasted hundreds of hours of programming and I wasted 10 hours of gameplay. I'll happily move to another game. I just like the original fallouts and having it being online is just a bonus.
All I ask is that you listen to your community. So many new people are complaining about things that I think can easily be fixed w/o even touching the hardcore aspect of the game. Then, I can guarantee that more people will play and keep playing and will want to donate. It won't take much to get enough people who will donate. Even just 5 people will get you 100 dollars a month. Think of how much money WoW is making with 10 million+ subscribers at 15 a month. I set up a counter strike server and tweaked it to the way people wanted it and they donated. I made 300+ dollars a month from just a small group of players. This game is good, but it could be awesome.
-
It seems you completely missed the point, strelok.
-
You know. The game is a hobby project. We do this because we like what we do and not to earn money. The donations are just for the server, that's all. If we wanted to make money for us, trust me, we would change a lot.
-

In fact, you do not have to even touch a shovel to start. You can do some simple quests (yes, there are some that will take you past lvl 2 and you can do them alone - with a bit of luck, of course). Also, you should forget about playing solo this game - or do it and face the consequences. This game is about team play, not playing solo. And last thing: saying "you should make the server better/with more content/sth or give up and stop working" is dumb.
-
Fair enough. I'm done posting and trying to help out. Hopefully the annoyances of continued complaints from new people will eventually get to you to change a few things so that the game can grow and be available to the hardcore and casual player. If you dont want to make money, then dont. People dont have to donate if they dont want to.
Peace
-
You try very hard to not understand what I write, eh?
Beside this, Kilgore is right. I never shoveled shit yet, still I manage it to get my character on at least level 3 after ~ 1 hour of playing. It's really not a big deal. Compared to other games, it's totally easy to level up.

You are not paying anyone for making this game. Donations are to keep server running. AFAIK no one from dev-team has a single cent from donations for their own. Make a tatoo on your ass with this sentence, if that might help you understand.
Demanding of content like quests "right now" while there is much more important work to do (like balancing, which isn't that easy nor fast) fits more to kindergarten, than mature player. Constant complaining isn't the best way to motivate people working on this project, you know.

Surely by "continued complaints" you mean the one single thread that oddly pops up from time to time, made by a complete mo~ron with no time spent on reading the wiki just to bitch about stuff he doesn't like.
Almost everyone here enjoys the game a great deal. And we don't even spend that much time in it, i log in once per 2 days or something like that, spend a few hours crafting stuff in my bros' guild cave. Im already level 10
Jesus christ, by the way, 2400 xp for crafting a single FN FAL...

when is the next server wipe due?
-
Soon.
The announcement of the coming wipe was made at the 6th of March. They said a maximum of 2 weeks until the wipe, so that's March 20th, not counting the 6th as a day.
Therefore, i'd say the weekend or Friday night, most probably. But let them take their time, we want as much as an unproblematic experience as possible, right?
-
It could probably be sunday or monday. Depends on how fast we can fix the last problems + test it. Let's hope nothing big will hit in between.
-
Well to get right to the point, I just want to say that the death system in this game is extremely frustrating.
I made character today and I'm already lvl 12, I don't see whats problem with little grind?
-
The game is great , one of the most fun and addictive mmorpgs ive played. Yeah it does have a few annoying things about it, but the devs work like dogs and the game is constantly changing. Some times the changes arnt overly good, but you have to bare in mind that this game is WIP and overall has become a much better game since i started playing. Ive come bk to playing this game after several wipes and have seen a few changes and can only imagine the amount of time the devs put into it, personaly i think the devs do a great job and deserve alittle praise for their continued efforts and hard work and also should be shown alittle respect, since this is one of the few mmorpgs that i know of that do listen to its community (alot of current game features came from old suggestions posted on forum)
DEVS.. you all rock and truely are the unsung heros of mmo.
-
Cheers to that. Go devs! As a game programmer myself I can imagine the amount of work put into the, especially since it is donations only. This game is unique to every other mmo, and they listen to the suggestions. So once again GO DEVS! Oh, and is there really gonna be a wipe soon? Or was that left over from the march wipe?
-
Somebody give a DVD with Madmax movie for him to understanding what is fallout :P
-
This is a frustration tread and it's dead more than 2 months. Where's the reason to necroposting here?
-
Iam noobish (2nd day in game) but i managed to set tent on lvl 2. I was wandering around NCR with some guys and killing brahmins by barehands ( i didnt understand craft sistem yet then). collected 10 hides pretty fast.
I guess it is all about teamplay. I was frustrating to read forums or guides before playing so i asked players around, it was more roleplay and fun.
I like it how low-middle-lvl non-faction players do their part in game: slavers, police, robbers, thiefs, hunters and so on.
