Title: Horse , sweat and gunpowder
Post by: kala on June 06, 2012, 09:22:24 pm
my grandfather was verry fond to the saying that real man smells of horse sweat and gunpowder
agree ?

i think FOnline need a steed of kind for map traveling (at least to be horselike or nearly)
a good powerfull revolver for a real good gunsliner (like the one Roland from The Dark Tower uses)
and the most important , proper head piece

DEVS make it happen it would be so badass

We have Modoc and Klamath, I think that's enough hillbillyness for one game.

most animal died, to radiation, or mutated in very bad way, so guess there wouldn't be so much horses, instead of those "mechanical horses" - called motorcycles...

More likely a bicycle would survive a nuclear war than a car but whatever, clearly a more suitable mount would be the legendary battle brahmin.

ok people ok , lets call it steed is that ok ?
animals mutated or died , motocycle is good , hell even a bike will do the trick but the spirit .....come on imagine some of Clint personages on bike ?!? if not in post apocalyptic west, where to be rider/gunslinger ?
It is historically proven that in dire times (war) often the old ways of doing things are rediscovered , and if there is two headed cow , somewhere there should be six legged "horse" and four armed gun wielding cowboy (brahminboy :)  to guard them or bandit to steal them.

lol, so you imply brahmins do parthenogenesis? :D , or maybe they are like mules and other mutants, they do not breed at all, they are just survivors from before the war?

Modoc/vc quest clearly implies breeding them is possible.

i really hope that the developers does not take all this like some kind of joke
Title: Re: Horse , sweat and gunpowder
Post by: Horatio on June 07, 2012, 05:28:59 pm
It started to be a joke when you wrote: "please, devs, make it happen, it would be so badass!"

Because, honestly, i don't think devs would 'make it happen', just because it would be 'badass'. You need to bring more convincing arguments if you want to have it implemented.
Title: Re: Horse , sweat and gunpowder
Post by: kala on June 07, 2012, 05:53:31 pm
it would be challenge for them skills i think
if this cause get support from more players it may agitate the right persons to do something
and more diversity in the game should be a good thing

so brothers and sister in arms, fellow wastelanders if you want mounts make your statement here and now and if we get lucky and the devs are in the right mood it just may happen

p.s aaahm the revolver and the hat should be more specific as items so if anyone have any idea about them it would be good to share it here

and for the "child begging for candy" attitude my grandmother says that the baby gets the tits only when it starts to cry loud enough  :)

What a moving speech.

Now, a counterquestion. Are you man enough to get a rig for this horsie (https://rapidshare.com/files/612296601/battlesteed.blend) using this tutorial? (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,18777.msg159798.html#msg159798)

Then, i will PERHAPS assist you with making a rider animation, because that's all what we can do - make a replacement graphic mod for some armor clientside.

If you want something, work for it. You're not a child bawwing for candy, aren't cha?

2D won't help much here (except for textures) all critter graphics in Fallout was actually made in 3D and rendered to 2D animations. So even if you wanted to make it 2D frames the only sane method is to make 3D models first. If there wouldn't be fighting or doing anything else than moving when mounted it wouldn't require much animations. Just getting on the horse, getting off and moving on the horse when mounted. But it would be quite tricky because you would have 2 critters that turn into one? oO

The easiest (the most primitive) way to do it would be simply making car with horse graphics.

I doubt devs would include it though (but hey, I could be wrong).

@kala: in my opinion, you should ask your 3d expert friend how to do it rather than let him make ALL the work.

@Jovanka: it's possible to turn of the less used armor sprites into horse rider sprites - technically you'll have an inflatable horse in your inventory.

"Chris Avellone asked about whether horses survived the War in Fallout Bible 8: Nope. Some mules did (the poor mule killed by the raiders in F1), but not for long. Besides, I think that mule was a discrepancy.'

All roads is full of errors and is considered non-canon, it didn't even match what was said in fo:nv.

Excuse me, which one? :o

And I stand corrected about All Roads and horses, didn't know it wasn't considered canon, or that it contradicted New Vegas so much. I'm a bit surprised horses appear in All Roads when Avellone was the writer.

There was a random encounter NPC that told you that. Tried to find it on the wikia but failed  :-[
On the graphic novel, I guess the guy drawing it just inserted it without consulting MCA (since the horses dont serve any significant role)

Heh. If you said it was Fallout 2... but I thought I had seen everything in Fallout 1, it's quite nice to see there are still some uncharted waters.

If that's the case, well, the guy who introduced them was a bit of an asshole, imho...
