You get a pot of daisies, use a plant spike and some Uranium on it, water it really good and leave it alone for a few days on a hex where you want your spore plant merc. Wait. Maybe later you get...a spore plant merc!
Now i know you're going to say "but Marko, they are so...stationary" Yes i know but don't blame them for their lack of mobility. They make up for that with spike-spitting skills that no other merc can mimic! Plant some near your base entrance to help guard the place (cannot be ordered to do anything - they might attack anyone).
Disclaimer: spore plant mercs would not be a part of the party point system since they don't travel with you, but you do need to feed them. Maybe some meat slices or a base raper would do. Get too many near each other and they might fight each other. Plant enough broc flowers nearby and they get docile. Plant enough xander roots nearby and they get aggressive.
Warning: do not leave children unattended near spore plants.
-
jesus christ, what is next? ant mercs? mantis mercs? who knows, maybe gatling laser-wielding rats!
PS: if you want to play with plants like this, maybe try "plants vs zombies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plants_vs_zombies)"?

Nice idea actually. :D
I'd like to have some of those plants.
-
@DepDop: i don't think that game you suggested has blueprints though, and from now on i need a game to have blueprints or forget it - i mean what's the point. But thanks anyway.

Actually you get cards that allow you to build different kinds of plants, so if you exercise your imagination a little, it's not too hard to imagine you're dealing with blueprints. It's also a great game, so it's actually a very solid recommendation.
Apologies for sidetracking. Would comment on your idea, but I'm undecided whether it's brilliant or completely mad.

but even IF they get implemented, what are you going to protect your tent/base from? ants? maybe if you get lucky your plants will make a critical for 1HP against unarmored target.
-
This suggestion is kind of... bad.
We don't need plant mercs.
-

Well, in theory if you accidentally carried someone to your base and briefly see him when you arrive, just seeing an attacking plant could help you in tracking down the intruder.
It's a bit of a stretch, but since you asked ...
-
hmmmm...we need merc turrets! awesome!
edit: what i meant was turrets not plant spitting thingies
-
Great idea, my good man.
I do like it very, very much.

As you age, your level of sarcasm might get more intense, as mine has. Certain factors, like server outages, might weigh into this to form a kind of weird-guy-brainstorm. Combined with an odd sense of humor and the right mixture of coffee, baker's chocolate and homemade onion soup, it is possible to get your best (or worst) ideas. I believe my additional thoughts here can best be summed up with the following quote:
"Before a mad scientist goes totally mad, there is a brief time when he's only partially mad. And this is when he's most likely to throw his best parties." -Jack Handy, DEEP THOUGHTS (SNL)
Disclaimer: though i am no opponent to the cannabis movement, i do not use it nor any drugs.
Warning: do not leave children unattended near mad scientists.

You can put 239847398 plants in your tent, blocking exit grid around whole map, except one hex somewhere in the north-east, so only you will know how to leave tent. Also these plants will lower tent robber FPS so much that his PC can freeze or making loading time much slower, making him easy target for these plants and you (of course if your own PC can resist it). In the end many many many spike throws will deteriorate his armor really fast and start deal 1 damage. So while he'll be staring in loading screen, because of system lags, his armor will be broken already and he'll die by many 1 damage hits.

OP said you need to feed the plants. how you gonna feed them if you can't get to them?
-
No, just no.
This would make 2238 even bigger joke :/

In what way?
From a sheer lore standpoint the suggestion seems perfectly reasonable to me and while I have a hard time thinking of many scenarios in which it would be useful, I can't think of many situations where it would lead to outrageous situations in terms of gameplay, either.
Mind you, that doesn't mean I think it should actually be implemented.
-
This thread reminds me something (http://i702.photobucket.com/albums/ww24/Reconite/SPSFinal2.gif)...
(...) I have a hard time thinking of many scenarios in which it would be useful (...)
Put plants close to exit grids in tent, only to refresh enemy combat timeout; gives you/AnyMercWithLegs time to execute tent follower ;>
-
Yes, this would be useful if put next to the exit grids, but I still hate the whole "upkeep" system of slaves/mercs.
-
Personally I like the payment for the mercenaries, although I think slaves should accept other stuffs to to gain loyalty not just jet.
In anyway on the idea of the Spore plants I'm not really fond of it for only one reason I don't think they should be able to differentiate anyone they should attack everything.
As I know the talking plant (in Fallout 2) was unique having tons of friendly and intelligent plants would render that unique plant to a common one.
-

Don't be silly. Everyone knows once you put in plant mercs you get robot mercs. Duh
And i think its a great idea. But i think you should change the feeding system to an ammo system. You give them broc flowers or xander roots and they turn it into ammo. One can be normal type. And the other can pierce armor. Do a rate of of 1 xander to 50 ap plant spikes.
-
AP plant spikes? feeding them with broc flowers and xander roots? better yet, feed them some gunpowder and metal so they can spit rockets at you. HQ gunpowder for AP rockets of course.

It's not so crazy arrows can pierce chainmail. So a ap plant spike should be able to pierce leather armor.

i think you, and everyone who likes this suggestion should lay off the LSD for a while.
-
Dope is right this idea is crazy why the hell would we want a plant in our tent/base?!
It useless,it cant even kill a 30HP bluesuit .
It can only be tent/base decoration.

And it being tent/base decoration would not warrant implementation, because?
Also this:

And I'm still not saying I like the idea.
-
It is actually a viable system of having a stationary defence system for your tents/bases etc as long as you limit the number of Spores that can be planted.
And from a lore standpoint would it not be possible to purchase these Spore Mercs as part of the professor of Broken Hills failed attempts at creating intelligent life?
He did create Seymour after all later on.
Perhaps these plants cannot talk and do not exhibit much intelligence apart from an ability to recognise friend and foe, which is not enough for the professor and so he wishes to offload them.

I got strange feeling, that "suggestions" board is only for sharing our imaginations with others players...nuthin' else....
(Yea, I know, I'm Captain Obvious).
-
Capitan obvious: showing idiots what is really going on
Jokes aside i have noticed that lately suggestions are getting worse and worse first it was the WKB's thing with shurikens and credit cards and now this .
Now wonder they say this game is full of crazy people .
-
It's true these suggestions are crazy. Clearly spore plants should be an auto attacking melee weapon held by the player.

Like a mobile plant? That's brilliant! Have a ghoul perk when you get too much radiation. And plant it in your head. Roachor you are a genius

aaaaaaaaand you clearly didn't get sarcasm.

Two words!
BATTLE BRAHMIN
Ripper wielding cows on Jet and psycho clad in metal armor mark 2.
Devs, make it happen!
-
Yeah brahmin get killed pretty easy, but if one did knock u down, U ARE FUCKED.
who here has seen the brahmin breed of COW in RL?
They are massive, let alone a mutated one. It will stomp a wastelanders arse into the ground, CA or no CA it will break that shit.
-
Umm why is this thread still alive?
-
As much as i hate KaBoom's play-style, i love the Battle Brahmin idea! Battle Bison would be cow image with darker color and could end like this game's cow level,
-

Because the world forum doesn't revolve around the fact that you apparently don't like this idea.

YES! Cow level! Just like diablo 2. Imagine avenger and rocket launcher blowing through waves of deadly bovine predators hungry for human flesh (they grind them into manburgers ofc, they enjoy a good barbeque, they aren't monsters!). Please show your support for this idea!
