So i discovered Fonline a few days back - Immediately spammed all my contacts whom i knew might be interested.
I don't see any of you guys and girls around anymore.. if you still play and happen to read this forum looking to answers to some things. I'm sorry.
I apologise for introducing you to this sh*t, without scouting the game out properly beforehand, but the intention was honorable.
I mean, come on - the whole fallout series was great!
Only, where I had naturally expected pvp with others to some degree in an 'online game', I had not anticipated this preventing you from talking to npcs and doing normal questing.
The wasteland should be harsh yes, but friendly towns were usually 'safe' unless you screwed up rather badly starting attacks on npcs and so. That's obvious.
Endless lives are great, but needing to find a -good- gun and armor after every spawn all over again.. eish.
Don't play much more than an hour or so (same as them) as i work daily and are no longer a kid or student who can spend 12hours+ on a game per day. so that is tedious.
I really did not know at the time that half the players had like 10 clones of themselves and controlled bases with lots of loot to outfit themselves in a jiffy pking bluesuits for fun.
Lots of my quests are broken due to losing important items or so - or things happening preventing my progress.
Your question? why i don't simply mail them? 1. Well, for one being embarrassed enough already. 2. to let 'you' know about a 'problem' or two (not the cloned multi's) with the game. Playability;longlivity..bla. Smart people will figure it out. Dev's even more.
I guess this is why Bethesda would never sanction this as the official fallout online and rather make a new on later if they felt it worthwhile. The only group who can anyway, seeing as they own the rights after the court case. you can go google "Press Release: Fallout MMO Rights Restored to Bethesda Softworks" if you have no idea about it, that's not what this article is about however.

Lol, seriously congratulations for figuring out 2238 is shit! It only took you an hour or two to figure it out. Count yourself lucky as it's taken me about a year to confirm that yes indeed, 2238 is shit. Not for the panty ass reasons you have given, no actually those are the positives!
LOL

LEndless lives are great, but needing to find a -good- gun and armor after every spawn all over again.. eish."
yes i agree... guns like 10mm or deagle are extremaly hard to find you're right :(
-
I believe he doesn't know the game mechanics yet... Like making a tent to stash items. It's the first things he should do in game. And maybe study a bit of fonline wiki before playing.
-
Dont be bad noob, better be good noob. Follow threads offering help for every noob or troll or whatever you are.

Undercover whiner.
-
The one introducing me to this game quit after 2 hours, I stayed for more than 2 years. C'mon, don't be a bad guy, be a good guy. (Bonus points for people knowing this quote)
Ah and like said by Blarg, obvious trollacc is obvious
-
Webrv underlined some points but the whole thread is such an obvious attempt to hide criticism it's not even funny. If you got something to say, just say it directly.
-
Well, he wrote that he discovered FO few days back, so I assume that he p did not create his forum account until today. I wouldn't say he is a troll as what he wrote is rather a whining.
All his arguments are:
1. The game is to harsh, I constantly lose my gear and quest items because of death.
2. The game is to harsh, I don't have much time, because I am going to work (dude, 80% of us got a day job).
3. The game is to harsh, my friends must know it, before they delete their accounts on Hello Kitty Online.
Few words to you, Webrv. You don't mail your friends, because your are affraid that no one of them think of this game like you do. If harshness of this game is a problem for you, then you made a good decission leaving this game - crying babies are not welcome here.
Funny things is that when I started to play 2238 I saw first problems after few months of constant playing, I did see them earlier as I was blinded by the fuckin-good-shitnees of it, that's strange, I must be fucked up or smth.
-
I find the "endless lives are great" part amusing, what mmos has finite player respawns?
-
I don't get it?
Why did he post this????
-
I don't get it?
Why did he post this????
because they are anUndercover whiner.
almost every time someone posts why they are leaving the game is the fact they thought it was going to be fallout 2 multiplayer. there should be a spoiler alert informing the new player that this is not at all the case.
-
I think you guys are getting paranoic... "An clone account whiner!" "He have friends, impossible! Lies!"
I have seen many messages of this kind in the past, with same main points "started few days ago", "Getting killed by PKers", "Dont like the game". I dont understand why anyone would want to make a clone account to say something like this, it is not like he asks for something or attacks a specific group in game (which could have been a purpose in making a clone account).
I find it weird however to see a dude complaining about how bad and harsh the game has been to him in his first few days, in other words crying out in forum, and he is met same as in game, with guns and accusions. Makes me wonder no longer, why he was threated harshly ingame, its the same people perhaps, that look for bluesuit to kill on forum as they cannot find one ingame, becouse those left the game and seek help in forums :]
-
Firsts week or two i was scared as shit of EVERYTHING. Even those rocks, dangerously lying there, frightened me. I was expecting PK behind every tree.
I was so much enjoying that. Best times.
P.S.: And like Kombajn said, it took me almost a year to start noticing those flaws this game have.
P.P.S.: Noobs should not be allowed to enter the game without reading wiki and forum before. Or absolve some basic training. May be those noob zones are really needed.
-
I don't really understand what Web is trying to say.
-
I totally agree that new players just joining (or new characters just being registered) should be prompted to read the wiki and forum, but even more importantly: the rules!
The rules could be emailed to that player and the player should have to click "I Agree" somewhere to complete registration. This game is not set up that way, i know, but this would more properly support the bans and other rules enforcements. To impose the rules without even prompting the player to see them, simply is not right.
-
P.P.S.: Noobs should not be allowed to enter the game without reading wiki and forum before.
The problem with that is that a significant amount of information presented is flat out wrong.
-
True. It's not easy at all for a wiki editor to maintain content in this environment since it so rapidly changes. Wiki editors need to have solid comm with the devs so we're not guessing at the data - we would need sure-fire answers straight from the developers and then the wiki could be a lot closer to 100%.
However, this leads to an idea...we could at least add an Official Rules page to the wiki. Wording things would be a precise work though and once again i would hope to have direct comm with the devs on that.
-
Won't be very tempting game if new players are asked to do this and that. Newbies don't suddenly man up when they meet this game. They check it out, if it isn't fun and addictive immediately they just leave.
Can't be harsh with newbies, it doesn't do any good.
-
Well in my case, i see rules and bans but i don't see anything prompting players to read them or acknowledge them. So it should be either click the rules or drop them. This business of "you find the rules on your own" means they are effectively optional.
-
I agree that game rules could be on wiki, but I don't really understand how game rules are
relevant to problems of a typical newbie. Bans don't happen that often, and usually they
happen to people who have been around for months or years and know well what's forbidden.
-
Well, as far as I have understood it, you won't get that kind of dialog and a good chunk of game mechanics remain shrouded in mystery. I suspect this is why some players go to the trouble of doing extensive tests to get an idea about how some of the mechanics work. And then get banned on the forum.
For what it's worth, the forum is actually worse in terms of misinformation and if we keep belittling and occasionally insulting new players (who sometimes post with very valid points as to why their experience has been frustrating) for not checking the forums, maybe we all should try to curb our bullshit a little bit.
-
Your deductions are wrong. He is not whining because of the game is harsh, game isnt harsh at all. Just the playing style of the players is disgust him because its based on killing other players and lying for it, stealing from other players and lying for it, trolling etc. A game cant be elite if players are not, a mmorpg cant be fun if players are not.

I can't believe that you would apologize for coming across a great game and then complaining and whining about the game's "harshness".
This is ridiculous and sad as well considering the fact that no matter what you will realize that you've made a mistake about this game.
Even though I'm fairly new to the game and forums I have to say: GTFO this game is not for whiners who can't stand a little hardcore action.
Although I've gotten majorly raped and killed by a couple of strangers, I keep having fun playing this game and enjoying it as well and so should you.
Everybody has an opinion and i respect it. So you do what you want. I just wanted to state my thought about this thread for a couple of days now.

there are other fonline engine based games, check them out. some are in beta, like Desert Europe, some are still developing like Wasteland 2155, some are only using the engine, but they are making a new game like Surface Dwellers
-
Maybe this game should come with a decent up to date manual with a direct link in launcher, would it be possible to insert links into launcher to connect to wiki and forum?

My release (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,22146.0.html) has a folder called "manual" with a link to wiki. Besides it's up-to date and configured properly.
That's all I could do. Best you can do is to point newbies to this file instead of to the official ones.

desert europe is dead.

Better would be, if you ask me, to make an ingame tutorial (optional) ;)
Becouse, there are a lot of things in game, that are not "naturally" understood, things that work but not entirely make sense. Like creation of a tent as simplest exemple, its very hard for someone to just pick up this game, hunt 10 brahmin hides and press science on them... If you dont know this, its kinda impossible to think it out by yourself. There are manuals yes, but on blog page, you got client link, without any manual for exemple, so it is not like the manual is shouting "READ ME BEFORE!".
-
I second that kttdestroyer. An optional tutorial would be handy for many starters.
-
TLAmk2 got something like that.
There was slave camp and u need to do some quests to get 10 levels (?) and some money to run out of that camp. Its great to piss off 1 level trolls and noobs :)

Jovanka, i looked for a way to add your release link to the wiki's "Getting Started" page but am unable to edit that page, nor do i see an obvious alternate fit, but i'd love to add it if we can identify a good place there for it. Also i'd be happy to add a Rules page to the wiki if...someone will kindly point me to a clear list of updated rules.
-
@Perteks
Sounds like an interesting thing. Though from the
Its great to piss off 1 level trolls and noobs
I guess its not optional which means it would get quite repetitive with time.
But well a similar thing would give some flavor to the start and some head ups for the new guys.
-
Repetive for guys who will make tons of alts :) Maybe it will piss them enough to make less alts

See now I didn't even know this existed. Just checked the manual folder and it is packed with useful information for travelling the wastes.
This information really needs to be on the wiki.

Yes because there is so much to do ingame other than level like stand in ncr or stand near a toilet.

#2238wiki and talk to Izual there when he will be on.

But the folder simply points to wiki ;D

I completely agree with this and I have said it in other threads and I know it has been said by others before, too.
Am I wrong or are we having almost the same debate in two or three different threads?
-
TLA MK2's Slaver Camp tutorial starting area was really good showing you how to do a lot of the stuff in game and get started, the only problem is you can't skip it if you know what to do already, you have to get to level 4 and obtain 500 caps to get out if I remember correctly but it's alright, there is an exploit where you suck an npc's cock for 500 xp and some caps and you can repeat it an infinite amount of times.
-

Well, the topic is almost the same. Would be weird if we had completely different debates.
there is an exploit where you suck an npc's cock for 500 xp and some caps and you can repeat it an infinite amount of times.
See, I haven't played TLA, but to me that doesn't sound so much like an exploit.

I guess a little more action for the casual pvp player would be nice. It's somewhat boring/tedious having to grind alt accounts in order to do some pvp (and be competitive) -this aside of the whole tc/pvp concept being totally broken right now. With that said, I will definitely hang around with anticipation to see what the next update (when/if one eventually comes), will bring. \(^o^)/
