Title: General thoughts on the game
Post by: Raul88 on April 12, 2012, 04:25:59 pm
I want just know what other people here think about the game, I'm quiete new I played a year agò a month and get lost because it was full of PK and dont like crafting system.

I tryed again this year to see what changed in game.
I have to say I'm disappointed to see crafting system is worst because is not easy find this damn blueprints. I tryed again do a crafter and is my only pg and I really think the system is worst than in past, wqith cool down it was not super funny but at least if someone want to make something is just a game of patience (not months, just some days maybe weeks).

Another problem are money...I'm doing a quest for gun runners and other quest to make little money but is very hard and mercs usually dont have or dont want buy weapons even if they sell them, cant understand this thing really.

And the last point...I can understand If I find PK arround, is ok and is even funny because people know outside cityes is dangerous, is Fallout! But why people can kill you in cityes???? Why?
I cant understand why guards dont do anything about them just stay there looking arround even if I have high rep they let others kill me just for fun -.-

Final thoughts, I think game got worst than last year when I tryed (it was in the end of 2010 begin 2011 dont remember well). And is very difficult find someone who want to play in squad, people always is scared or try kill me no mater if city or outside. If I have play alone I prefer the basic game.

Somebody can explain me why this game is made this way? Probably I'm playing the wrong game this case I can only leave, but probably I got the game wrong so explain me how work or if this really work this way.

get a faction. the sarmatains are recruiting. you are welcome to join. also you should stay out of southern towns. they are more dangerous then north towns. trolls, theifs and other scum. merchants only buy things they want know. so gunrunners will buy high tier stuff and it goes like that. gun guy in adyum buys tier 2 weapons and armors. alot of traders in ncr buy tier 1.
to get caps kill hunting partys near kalamth for spears and sell them in junktown for 50 caps each.
or sell slaves. 200 caps for male 150 for females 100 for kids. also you can do metzgers slave runs and make alot of caps.

If you are in a gang, you only need 1 bp for the whole group. But still someone has to find it. It can take weeks to find the correct bp you're looking for. Finding one of the rarest bps can take months. You can think about it: is it easier to find friends or the bp?

When it comes to friends, don't look for them in the wasteland. Mostly newbies and scammers can be met ingame. Look for friends in irc and forum. Most recruiting happens through forum anyway. But I'd advice you to learn the ropes by yourself first. Gangs apreciate self-sufficient experienced wastelanders much more than total newbies.

Apart from blueprints the crafting isn't much worse. There are no cooldowns and you can craft as much as you have mats which are easy to get. Downside is that crafting areas are in difficult places, excep in gunrunners.

What comes to caps, doing some quests like the ant quest is waste of time. I hear slaver quest in den is good. It can be done without any abusing and loopholes, downside is that some pk might get you in den. So you best do the quest when the player ammount on server is low and scout the town first as bluesuit just in case.

Players can kill you in unsafe towns because wasteland is harsh. Consider it a freedom, not a downside.
Killing in safe towns then again is a nuisance that is close to griefing. It can be avoided by making proper safe town alts.

In this game you do what it takes to achieve what you want. Sometimes the methods are outright retarded and mostly have to do with levelling alts that can do only single task.

I learned about most people in game. In my opinion it's much more reliable than forums and IRC.
Forum and IRC tell nothing who can stab you in back. In game, in the long run, it's hard to hide
how you really like to treat others. You must observe people and get to know them.

But it's a long process, and by "looking for friends in game" you probably have in mind something
like standing in town for 2 minutes and shouting "I want in gang", right? Time is itans after all :P

Thanks to all for adivices, I said noob but I can handle myself, I used a lot the wiki (but a lot of things are outdated I saw) and I managed to have a safehouse (thanks to some guys that explained me the ranger quest) and I can craft some weapon to handle some npc. But this blueprint thing I really cant get this well, I saw gun runners give some quest for beer, never found this, others talk about some sort of lockers arround but never found and I dont have lockpicking so they are usess, I thought buy them by other players but prices are very high and even with some quest it takes a lot of time.

I think about it and I see the samaritans maybe I find someone that want to play (I understand now recuirtment is more on forum than in game, usually is opposite but ok I try this way).

There might be a quest that gives very good caps.....

This.

avv, your advice is ok for already in-tuned people but not for newbies at all.

best they find someone in their own travels.

To be honest i loved ALL the changes made, to unarmed, to sneak, to crit and anti-crit, to followers, tents, perks, traits, craft, prof, neutral prof requirements on items, so on

the best advice he can get is from a guy who actually knows the game. Semi-shit advice is not all that helpful. The most important part of a gang is the flow of information. Dicking around ingame without a clue doesn't get you anywhere anytime soon.

Do you want to get to know a character or a person? You dont really know anyone unless you have actually talked to him on voicechat.

also, the ncr population is by no means representative for the whole of the community.

My advice to raul: Get on irc, learn about the existing factions, look them up on the wiki. Then generally read the forum and look for people that seem to write reasonable posts and see if you can pm them or talk to them on irc. If you're lucky they can help you and prevent you from either ragequitting in 2 weeks or from wasting your next months on a pointless exerperience.

bottom line: Fonline PvE is easy, IF you know how to do it, however the game is made in a way that you'd never find out on your own.

But that's where you're wrong.  You under-estimate the power of a curious mind and the persistance of a competitive or survivalistic or even just fan-boy of the series.

In fact, I ENCOURAGE people just blindly play the game.  It makes it far more enjoyable, more satisfactory once you finally get some shit together.  Knowing you carved your way into the game world with LITERALLY nothing to your name.  Rags-to-Riches bitch yeah.

Slower, more enjoyable gameplay (admittedly it's a bit personality prerequisited).  Also, been to school right?  How much of the bullshit they force-feed down you're throat do you remember?  I'll bet less than 90% after you got to 6th grade.  (At least in my country, USA).  But when you learn shit on your own, you remember it.  It's a wierd thing, you just don't forget when you learn it yourself.  It's simply more efficient in the long run.

But ah, fuck, I'm not sure im entirely on the ball here.  Needless to say, no one I've become acquainted nor formed strong friendships with, has ever been through the forum, mirc, mumble, skype etc etc.  Not once.  People can act alot like themselves in game as well, and watching actions speak louder than words.

I concur with John Hovinko. Chatting with players on irc often yields invaluable info, & maybe even new friendships. Such IMO, can make an otherwise somewhat brutal game for newbies much more enjoyable in the long run. Obviously, be smart about the whole 'trust' thing, just a little is quite safe, too much is not. (=^_^=)
