Well, as many of you may or may not know, my faction deals often with player to player trades. Lately we've had an outrageous influx of scammers here on the forums, so in the interest of keeping people safe and sane, I've decided to publish Gorgon Enterprises blacklisted trader list. If you feel someone should be on this list, please post here or pm me a screenshot, log, or witness account of a scam-in-progress. Please do not spam good traders here, all entries are reviewed carefully, as slander is against company policy.
*Note: I'm making this because having the post in Auction seems out of place and it was getting spammed.
Known Scammers:
Express (Caught Selling Bogus BPs and Highwaymen-Presently Banned)
E-M-O (Selling fake BPs, not committing to an auction)
Grimmi (Selling bogus BPs)
Tost (selling Bogus BPs)
Piercing (Selling bogus BPs)
SmurfAttack (Selling bogus cars and BPs)
Jacky (Puppeting a Scam account)
Mr.Pepper (Res Account)
Bonesaw (Another Res Account)
Suspected Scammers:
Gimper
Fortunately, we here at GE have made many fantastic business contacts and would like to recommend these traders
Gorgon Enterprises Trusted Traders:
Balthazar (Bought a Plasma Rifle from him while I was writing this :P)
kiravanburen (Sold drugs to him)
Boatshift (Bought 10 hides, sold 20)
MRTrader (Bought 10 hides)
Codave (Bought several BPs, and assorted whatnots, great guy)
MaliceSong (Bought Junk)
Gob (Bought Cockroach)
likeyoucare (Never personally traded with, but I've heard enough good things)
Dark_Angel (Same as above)
Whokilledbambi (Leader of the crafter's union and all around good Samaritan)
Hects Hakal (Bug reporter and good trader)
racoon (sold numerous items)
-
You should add who killed bambi(in game name charity) to trusted traders as i traded whit him many times and all went safe as always :)

BenK, i have a suggestion (this does not apply to people you already trust):
Consider using an empty base as a "trading post" location. If you take payments in advance it means nobody can ever gank you. With no way to gank you, you won't need a black list. I hate black lists because they can be endless - any single player can be on that list a hundred times with all different chars and the burden is always on you to keep updating the list.
Instead, ditch the need for any list at all, and get payments in advance. You stash the payment and then you take the client to your trading post where they pick up the item(s) they bought, in an otherwise empty base. No way to gank you, no need for mercs, no need for protection from friends, and no need for a black list.
You could do this now since you already have a good reputation - people are learning they can trust you. This is how i plan to run my warehouse, so we could establish a standard.
-
marko no body gives payment before getting there itemz then you can scam them and there not going to take chance.
-
They would with someone they trust though.
-
I have 175% speech skill (The highest is apparently the best trustable now) and people still won't trade with me in such a fashion, whenever I consider to them such a proposal.
Seriously, talk about paranoid O.o.
Btw, this is possibly the scammiest of the scammest eras I've ever seen.
-

Nobody is going to trust you if you say pay me in advanced. If somebody said ok I'll trade you this item but you have to trade in advanced I would look for a differnt seller.
LOL How long have the chosen soldiers been at it... The Chosen Frauders.
-
Nobody is going to trust you if you say pay me in advanced.
Don't be so sure.
-
It is wrong to say "nobody" would. Some few people would, and those might give me good reviews which leads to more. But really, i don't mind if most say no because i don't want to just do trades all night. So what if most say no? Let them go find a different seller, i say let them go. Only a few trades is fine with me. Meanwhile i could still claim to be the wasteland's safest dealer.
-
In reality the safest way would be to have a neutral 3rd party person act as escrow liaison between the buyer and seller, good luck with that concept though.

SD makes safe trades virtually impossible.
There used to be a point, where you could make almost totally safe trades, with alts, and a few friends of course.
But now, with SD, you can easily just insta-fuck the guy and take his shit in a blink of an eye. (thanks to plasma nades :D)
-
Unfortunately even trustworthy traders are fairly paranoid about following people to bases or caps-in-advance trades. I don't know how people agree to that Marko. I know that kind of suggestion would make me refute an agreement.
So far, I have not had a problem with scammers personally because I review trade agreements very carefully before I enter into a contract. Sadly some of my employees are not so careful.
The reason this list is here, is so that people know what to look for, and with the exception of Res and Jacky, most scammers tend to give up after they have been ousted. It also gives people an idea what to look for to protect themselves from a scam.

And you wonder why no one trades with you.

Trade on wm?
-
simple: trade on wm over a city.
If the leader starts moving to the waste jump out

lol if leaders tent/ambush is right beside the town you dont have enough time.

So let him walk with you, then have 1 charisma, and no problem involved, if trader is suspicous or he don't want to walk out with you, then he's retarded or a scammer.

But how do you prove that your not a scammer with more than 1 charisma (all you need is a beer).
You've got to look at it from both sides not just yours.
Basically it's impossible to solve and the only reason why you can trade safe in RL is because you are trackable whereas here you are not.
-
You can't prove it, it's a risk you must take.

fonline needs a wow style auction house, its hard enough trading due to different timezones.

What we need is a mailing system. If you played APB when you would win an auction you would get the item by email as an attachment and if you would loose the auction the money is returned to you too, but this is the wasteland and people are greedy :) so no money back.

if you don't get a refund for not winning it's not an auction it's a raffle. I doubt any society would ever go for a gambling based trade system.

Does anyone remember the auction house in FF9?

Does anyone remember the auction house in FF9?
I do. My second favorite auction system. My fav was DDO, a mix between mail-order sales and an auction house.
And as far as the WM trades, that's what I usually do. There is no truly "safe" way to trade, but WM trades are the closest I've found.

Any of these ideas could work to some degree but none of them promote trust between anyone. Except my idea. [this is when i think i say neener-neener or something]
My idea leads eventually to trusting people. You start slow and you gradually figure out whom you can trust. You find a few you cannot trust too, but at the end of the season you have something greater than an auction house - you have trusted relations proven over time.
-
Alright Marko, if you say so ;)
But I've already started to make good trade connections. Successful trades build trust regardless of whether they are in your base or not.

You could add "Tost" to the black list. Check this out:

Ahhah :D
Epic fail with 2 different interfaces.

You can see that he is using an older version of the Pure Evil interface. Notice the black borders and the displacement of the HP counter which only happens on older versions. Then again, you can never be sure.
-
Im using v14 of pure evil all you gotta do is take fonts off and it'll look that way
-
I am new here but i can see this drama will never end :)
-
Good trade with Gimper today, also traded well pre-wipe.
-
Also notice that on Tost's screenshot the player on the map is bold, while the player in the inventory window got hairs.
-
Added Tost to blacklist and moved Gimper to the suspected list. I will try trading with him again, we shall see how he reacts.
-
i think we should also create 'trusted traders list' so you could score points on both lists and work out your reputation
* o sorry just noticed such list already exists...
-
Why i am not on trusted traders list? ... Oh sorry it was stupid from me that i didnt noticed it :D so high xD
-
Someone is considered trusted because he sold 10 hides ? I don't want to be rude , but that's awfully exploitable and naive ...
and hey i am trustful as fuck , do as i say and trade always goes perfect. Seriously. :) or even better just write down SOT as trusted to trade , nobody from us would try to scam anyone it has been like that from the very start of wipe.
http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,21331.msg176639.html#msg176639
That's a good example. ( and goddamn don't even ask me to sell BP , not interested to waste time on that )
-
...
It wasn't simply trading hides, it was his actions ingame while conducting the trade. I'm not foolish and certainly not new to the dealings of the wastes.
I have yet to trade with SOT on a faction wide scale, but until I do I can't really give you that recommendation.
Also, you can't recommend yourself as an addition to the list. If I need anything from you or your looking for anything special, we can PM, and we'll see how cleanly you trade.
-
Despite other things I have to say SoT are fair traders.
-
Yes-even thought that i dislike SoT they trade safe-just watch out for recruits (this apply to all factions)
-
Again, I can't recommend a faction wide boon, as I've never traded with SoT on a faction scale. PM me, and I'm sure I have a few things even the richest faction in the game doesn't keep handy ;)
-
Thanks so much.
