Title: Can you leave mercenaries behind?

I hired a merc and went out to gather some ore with him in my party. I left the map and he disappeared. Is it possible to leave them behind?

Yes if you put them on gaurd and leave the map they are gone.
They are currently quite bugged atm.
eg: all your slaves follow you after a server crash.

We you have a slave or merc, brahmin, etc, you have to make sure they are very close to you before you leave the map or else they won't follow you. Just make sure they are following you before you leave a random encounter, make sure neither of you are in combat, or else he won't follow you either. You can, however, leave a Merc behind in a tent or base.
