Title: Different 'on ground' ore/minerals images - project
Post by: Krupniok on March 21, 2012, 05:11:38 pm
There was suggestion some time ago which I liked a lot - to make different images for all the ores laying on the ground. I know there's a lot of much more important things to be implemented/fixed now, but you know - it's quite frustrating now that you have to check it by pointing and looking at it's name in the console, it doesn't look nice also. So, being ill and having nothing better to do, I just coloured basic sprite a little (as it's done with Uranium/Gold). I think it looks good, tell me what you guys think.

So, here it is. I know it may look strange at first, but I think that after some time you'd get used to it.

Comment, rate and tell if something could be better.

Is it possible to make a graphic mod like that or must it be implemented server-side?

It would need server side because all of those graphics currently go to rock.frm (if I remember correctly), and those settings would be in the server to make each correspond to a different graphic.

Maybe we should make that as useful modification..

You forgot uranium ore and ordinary rock.
But the idea is great, all things should be separated from their cousins, if not with a new model, a graphic change would be sufficient. (e.g. minigun - like now, avenger blueish...)

The idea is good, just I don't like how you made those colors not in the fallout color palette, they stick out too much. Would be the major reason for me not to install that. :)
And yes, it would need some slight changes serverside.

A very good idea! Colors can still be changed, but the idea behind it could be implemented years ago.

Minerals are white color, Ores are black color. Giving them both those brownish color doesnt make sense.
I mean desert robes and purple robes have different item-on-the-ground graphics too. Same could be applied to Leather Armor MK2.

Nice! But a little bit too simple and cartoonish IMHO.

Here is my suggestion: make 3 different, distinctive shapes: 1 shape for ores, another for minerals and 3rd one for alloys.

Then make low quality versions look dirty/rusty/desaturated  HQ more clean/shiny/colorful.

Something liket that: (lq ore / hq ore)
