Title: Battle Timeouts
Post by: BenKain on March 20, 2012, 05:28:14 pm
Before you start going off, yes this is a whine post. I am totally sick of having to sprint up and down the exit grid while I'm being splazered by mercs and press gang members. If I have escaped, I should be able to escape goddamn it. I don't begrudge getting hit with a head crit and pretty much insta-dying, but I should at least be able to run. Nine seconds is a complete death sentence, frustrating, and the most broken and idiotic system in this game.

1) Buy internet, you should easily run away from 99% encounters before any NPC even shoots at you.
2) Even if you got shot (and it's not an instakill) it isn't really that hard to outmanouver NPC's, you just need some practice.

I agree, its quite simple to run from most encounters.
From my experience, problems can arrise either u have laggy net, or slow pc.

Always can be server lags...

Merc and press gang npc have decent skill in their weapons, and mercenaries especially have alot of perception, so they shoot at farther lengths than other npcs.  (take ghoul crazies for example, we all know those bastards shoot at max, but at least they don't run, and have shitty weapons).

Unless there is other npcs in encounter, your prolly gonna get hit, and after that, you're prolly dead, considering the Hit=Lag issue this server has.

As far as the 'get internet' and 'buy a better computer' comments go, I have an Alienware Gaming laptop and top of the line Comcast business class internet. Its not on my end.

When a character gets hit in RT (at least mine) he loses about two hexes. This coupled with city exit zones (which are small at best) make it totally impossible to escape high PE enemies. At this point I have enough hp to take a good hit or two, but the timeout, is again, a death sentence.

Maybe make a perk "Escape Artist" that lowers the clock or some such, because this is really starting to irk me.

Just make battle timer only from other players

People will farm encounters near exit grids and if things are going to end badly, they will just leave enc.

If your trying to tell me your one of those salad tossers that just sit in a heavy encounter area waiting for a blue to get caught, then plamaspaz him, than you child molesters should burn anyway.
If not, explain yourself with full, well thought out sentences.

He is saying removing battle timer will unbalance game, causing next to no risk when farming PvE (and much less in PvP as well, if you think)  because if thinks start to not go your way you can instantly just leave and try again without a thought.

But your HP would remain at its previous total. Groincritz and the assorted lulz would still be effective as well. The only thing that it may effect is PvP, which is just glorified griefing in this game anyway.

In turn based mode, you can leave without a timer already. So is that fact others might show up is whats makes that balanced?

I've had times when trying to run, the timer keeps getting reset because the npcs are good shots.

"Alright 3...2....dammit they shot me again!"

Tell me why would it be so bad to remove that risk when PvE hunting?
Is the risk of dying and losing everything that "good" and needed?
It won't make it easier, just running away easier.

But anyhow, I thought of a solution.
A timer only when you shoot.
So if NPCs are shooting at you and you are running away, you can run away without timer.
But if you are hunting NPCs and shooting at them, you have a timer after every shot you shoot.

i think they should implement a new command. every time you hit trouble in encounters you type ~beammeupscotty or ~energize. after you type in those commands, the starship enterprise teleports you inside the ship, gives you a brand new power armor and a gatling laser and 250 MFC and 3 super stims. after this, you can choose to go back to encounter and kick their ass.
