Hey I just tried to use a still (science skill) and it told me I needed 5AP to use this action. I have took agility 1 so I could min/max trade stuff so I only have 3ap. Why does it take a certain number of AP to use science in a practical application.

Yeah, I took bruiser. Needed the str for muleing.

take jet to get 5 ap to science sense its muler it does not matter such really. only -22 cw

.. then he needs to make a new alt to science so his choice.

I'm not trying to make a frack-load of alts. I think that practice is ridiculous and infuriating.
So does this mean I can't mine or gather scrap electronics? Because I can harvest fruits (3ap), just not use a still.

Most actions are 3 AP. I believe other than using Science, Sneak, Doc, and FA are also 5AP requirements.
Sneak you won't need at all. Doc and FA you can get by without.
However if this guy is a crafter, then you might as well just go ahead and remake him so you can science items for materials.
