Title: Actual Usefulness Of Barter
Post by: BenKain on March 18, 2012, 06:59:07 pm
Has anyone figured out how much barter modifies the prices at shops compared to your total rep.
I'm trying to perfect a caravan build (ostensibly Barter, Speech, Outdoorsman) and I can't decide if I should tag my crafting skill instead (energy expert) or barter.
Anyone have any advice?

i thought at 180 barter there is no more bonus to price from it.

Barter is now near-useless according to devs.  I am somewhat serious as it was mentioned by one of them that reputation would have the greatest affect on prices...  Not sure by how much but considering how i remember it being worded reputation was at least 3/4 better than barter in the way I percieved it.

Well, good thing I ended up tagging science then.

Not necessarily.

prices atm is pretty god damn brutal, a little boost so you could at least sell SOME of your wares for SOMETHING even without reputation with the faction I would find very useful.

Maybe that was their intention.

p.s.  I love the caravaneer experience thing, I could be one of your guards sometime :D?

I woulda made my own by now but I just hate levelling new characters...  it's worse part.

Alright, put my last lvls 27 points into Barter, bringing it to 100%.
Moltovs went from 32 to 38 a pot at the Hub (Neutral 46 Rep)

Soo it would seem it is a small difference. Small but significant enough. Still glad I tagged science, as I got edgimicated at 2nd lvl and those extra two points are more valuable than I would have thought possible.

But a caravan guard would be awesome. Just now trying to move into the high level mines, and getting eaten by other craft-asses.

I have Barter 150 and Negotiator.

According to the description, Negotiator sets worst Reputation to Neutral.

I don't know what that means.

Does that mean my individual worst reputation or that I can only get down to Neutral?

BTW
Who buys ammo?

It means, while Bartering only, your rep is treated as 0 at worst. That means if you have -1499 Antipathy in NCR you would still get the same prices as a 0rep character. And what kind of ammo?

I don't think anyone buys ammo right now.

I've literally checked everywhere I could think of...  (with 20-30 barter char of course)

Best place to sell ammo is San Fran, mostly Needler, 10mm, and .45
I really don't know of anywhere that buys 9x19 without at least 50 barter though... And those places are few and far between.
