Title: No spare parts?

So, just to prove I know nothing about this game, I attempted to repair a damaged shotgun using the skilldex, and was told I needed to craft a tool. 

So I crafted a tool.

It then says I need spare parts.  So I got all the materials it takes to make another shotgun, then tried again.

Still no dice.

I even resolved to dismantling my old weapons, and just making brand new ones, instead of repairing them, but now I feel like I wasted getting that 100% repair skill.  I could've spent those points in something useful. 

Does anyone feel like enlightening me as to how the repair system actually works?  I read the deterioration article on the wiki, but it mentions nothing about 'spare parts'...

You have to use spare parts from another shotgun to repair the other one

just take 2 shotguns and repair 1 using parts from other shotgun.

agreed , too problematic, and you could as good use two damaged items one after another for the same time as one repaired. repair should be as pre wipe and not need another same item to repair

or you could need at least some crafting amterials, like metal parts for example

That's what I figured it'd need...  But making a completely new shotgun, it'd be easier to just use the materials...

Yes, i too thought u needed the parts required for the item in question.
Quite frustrating to discover things by trial and error.
