Title: crafting ordinary knife

For me as a newbye was very difficult to get ordinary knife, because traders had lots of weapons that doesnt stack, lack of money and offten deaths. I consider knife as a tool like hatchet and sledgehammer, I need knife to gather fibres, but i need 60 skillpoints in melee weapons to make it - its like a spear!

I suggest to change requirements to 45% in melee (10mm pistol required 45% in small guns) and 40 in science. Maybe change the number of knifes from 10 to 5.

I actually see your point here. The ordinary knife is one of the weakest melee weapons anyway.

I once found myself in a sitation where I needed a knife to gather fibers, but couldn't craft one and had no money on me.

So what did I do? I shoveled some shit to get enough caps (60 IIRC, I hadn't invested in Barter at all) to buy one from the local merchant. This was all done in a matter of minutes.

So yeah, knives are fairly easy to come by if you're resourceful about it.

However, you can craft all other items like the sledgehammer and axe quite easily. That's his point really. It should be just as easy to make such a simple knife.

i agree - i had that situation when i didnt had knife (lost it in death or smth) and wanted to go get some fibers.. didnt had any in tent.. cant craft it ...and no vendor in ncr had any (they were killed or smth recently...

Using a flint on a plant should give fiber imo.

I think that Sharpened Spears and Switchblades should work to cut fiber too.
