Pre-wipe I loved the VC area and was able to set up ALL of my operations there. Many of the people were not assholes like in NCR or other bigger cities. It was nice, relaxed and friendly. Because of this advanced workbench BS I can't do that. I have to go set up near gunrunners?? I've been killed just outside of gunrunners more than once and i barely ever went there. I can't imagine running in out of there all the time. I hate that area and many others do not like it as well. Please put an advanced workbench in the VC area. Honestly, it makes no sense that the vault itself wouldn't have one..... well anyways I'm pretty much going to quit the game over this until it changes. Probably not the only one.

There is only one all over the FO world Medical Terminal inside the vault. Leave something for others, sir :>

Good suggestion! Add a goddamn Medical Terminal somewhere else FFS!
-
Yes yes lats make ADV-Workbenches i each city and each tent for no one come to do something in wasteland. All resources should be in tents too. And that would be cool to put terminal with unlimited exp in each city.
btw. There are too many AD-W in cities so that would be nice to delete 1 or 2 from some locations.
-
I think adding any special thingies somewhere else is not needed, except maybe one unguarded medical terminal. What makes some place special should remain special - one guarded advanced workbench (with access granted by proving yourself worthy to it's owners) and two unguarded (where you have to be smart or be strong to get anything) is enough I think. You can actually meet someone there, talk, fight, trade, whatever.
Imagine now there is advanced workbench in every city, like regular workbenches are - who would bother with hi-tech gun fags and their quests, if he can craft shiny toys anywhere?
-
Hi, i suggest (if add) add workbench to glow and reno, because this that dont want to make quest for gunrunners can go to unguarded places, then Reno can got more population and Glow can become small town, with glowing bodies.

Yes, the more there are, the more diluted the concept becomes.
and Glow
There is an advanced bench there, isn't there? :P

There is, guarded by a robot which respawn in 4 seconds ;p
But seriously, about the medical terminal, why not adding one in unguarded location? Pretty sure many people would prefer this over VC.
-
Its in VC? Hm, that's not right.
Should be the old vaults
-
Try a tent near Mariposa or he Toxic Caves. ( I know the latter is not working by all reports, but that's going to get fixed, and it only has two robots.)
It's risky, but that's the issue you deal with doing ninja resource and crafting runs. You shift for yourself defense wise, and have no one to blame but yourself or simply bad luck if you can't handle other players showing up.
The other alternative is having some muscle to help you who want delicious advanced gear for helping you, or who simply feel like helping you because you are bros/gang members.

a. Honestly this would not be a huge deal if I ever had any hope of getting a car. Given how scarce caps are now (another deal-killer for me), that's not a possibility. I'll be lucky if I can scrape enough together to get lvl 2 of a profession. It's ridiculous.
b. Can someone please give me a list of WORKING advanced workbenches? I've heard of one in mariposa (unguarded), one in gunrunners (guarded), and 1 broken one in Glow(unguarded). Are there any I'm missing? If that's it well... those are ALL in the south.... All I'm asking is that you put 1 in the north somewhere (or give us some caps for ffs so we can buy cars (or anything at all worth having )). Many of us hate the south and all the thieving, spamming, murderous pricks that inhabit it.
c. Like I said before, there is no conceivable way that Vault City would NOT have an adv. workbench. It makes no sense whatsoever. It makes sense that they, the brotherhood, and the enclave would have all the best tools and tech in the game. It does makes sense that they have the only medical terminal , however, it would make more sense if the BoS and enclave had one as well.
Yes I know the wasteland is harsh blablabla but this is a game and it was definitely harsh enough pre-wipe. Many quit due to griefing (I even quit for many months). I can see making it a bit more harsh but this is really going too far.

This is true, when faction points are working you will even be able to earn the right to use them too.
-
Well that's excellent news! I may be back after all :D but uhh were you talking about the medical terminals or the adv. workbenches?
-
They'll each have both.
The idea is you have:
1. Unguarded benches, the quickest to use, but dangerous
2. Guarded benches, you have to earn access - I think eventually it'll be over rep limit and then caps to use.
3. Faction benches, same as above, but you must buy sufficient rank in your faction (using faction points) and then pay to use them (again, using faction points).
-
Well how easy will it be to earn faction points ? Do I have to pay to use them every time? If so, what does one use mean? Can I just bring in as much stuff as i can carry with myself and my companions for 1 use? I'm thinking this is bordering on not good again :/
-
It will not be an easy answer, no. It is not intended to be that.
Faction points will be earned through quests, repeatable quests, group PvE, group faction PvP, etc. You'll then be able to spend them advancing up the ranks, buying stuff from your quarter master or for use of the benches. You would essentially be able to live totally inside the faction.
-
It should be hard to use guarded benches. Every player using advanced bench just like that is wrong. It's advanced technology and it should be damn hard to get using one.

If the goal is to make good toys rare then I don't think it will work.
If you need to play 150h to get a faction to like you and allow you to make those plasma guns then the number of plasma gun crafters will drop. But you only need a few crafters per gang to craft all the plasma guns you can eat. When the craft alts are shared then they can be online 24/7. In the end gangs will have all the gear they want in any quantity, and the rest will have none or just 1-2 good items hidden in tent, worth far too much to use.
I would suggest a finite amount of items (like there can only be 50 gaus guns in the game ), but I won't - it can't work, people would hord items so that noone else can get one.
The system should allow you to make items for your own use or to sell to other players. Making 10000 bb/flamer fuel/.45/spears/whatever to trade it for something else is really stupid...
It would be just better if there was a shop selling top toys for (a lot of) caps only. Gangs that have caps from TC would just buy what they need. Then crafting would be something for small groups and lone players in NPC factions. Making a chain of quests giving access to more and more crafting options would be the way to go. The quests should be doable by lone crafters and loosing a quest item should not give -1000 rep (like some say can now).
...ain't gonna happen? I can dream, can't I?

Generally a big bravo for this. I am doing the BoS quests and now have 700 faction points to my "name".
For example with these points I can now buy a flamer... sure its not anything "big" but honestly speaking the quests so far where really easy and I am just a neophyte/initiate. So yea I hope that with faction PvP and faction PvE and even more quests and some repeatables this has potential.
The key here is to make repeatables for all play levels. Repeatable hard quest with hard opponents for groups and gangs but also some repeatables for loners like myself. Also like now there can always be choice between 2 quests... so you go to the guy in the BoS bunker and he tells you "to become a sergeant/paladin/whatever you need to do one of the two "blahblahblah" like it is now. But those 2 can be of different difficulty for group and for single.
In any case also a question to Solar.
Are the Blue Prints and faction Advanced Workbenches something that will come soon? And by soon we mean a couple of weeks? Cause if yes maybe its worth to keep my faction points until then!
-

Its not really to make things more rare. It is to add interesting things to the crafting process.
If you are capable of controlling the unguarded benches then you will be able to craft lots more than before under the new system.

We are still in the phase of fixing bugs and systems which are not working properly, so it won't be a couple of weeks. Getting a least a couple of factions up and running is one of the next "new" things we will be wanting to do though.

This thread has clarified a lot for me and I really appreciate your time Solar :) That being said, one last bit of clarification is needed. The way I read it , it seems that every single time you want to use an advanced workbench you will need to spend faction points. Is that true? And if true, will it be open to you for an hour or so(possibly more?) or is it just a one time use kind of thing? If it's one time use that wouldn't work cuz depending on the weapon one may not be able to carry all the materials he needs to even make 1 high tier gun.
-
I think we should found adv workbenchs in every unprotected/tc towns. Makes more players run in those towns and more life in the wastland.
Or maybe just in civilsated towns like BH, reeeding, gecko and maybe den (but it don't rly think slavers are civilisated)
-
I think there is too much A.Workbench at the moment. There should be max 2 or even only 1

Hell will freeze before i'll buy it Solar... Is forcing players to contact other players (which forces PvP on them for like 90% probability) the best thing you (yourself or you all devs) came up with for the sake of making crafting more interesting? Coz if so, then i might contribute plenty of my ideas to you guys how to really make crafting more interesting.
Then again you did add blueprints... and for now it's fail since looking for those is extremely boring...

My guess is that the points would be used to gain access at a given point. Like to enter the Reno casinos, the Cathedral, and the Gun Runners bench, you enter through dialogue. I assume you would say "I want to go into that room" and they would subtract some faction points and you'd pop into the room. Seems like the easier way to implement it.
